The Trial of Jean Grey part 3- (All-New X-Men # 23)

By Mark Rodriguez

At first I thought it was weird since the bottom said 'part 3 of 5' and I'm like... whoa, what the hell happened to part 2? It kinds like they wanted to consider both the X-Men comic and the Guardians of the Galaxy comic part 1, since they both happened at the same time, but from their perspective. Well anyway, I checked their checklist thing on the last and this is indeed part 3. The Shi'Ar decided that the Classic Jean Grey, who was brought to modern day by Beast alongside her 5 teammates, should pay for the crimes committed by her future self as Phoenix. Even though this younger Jean has not committed these crimes yet, the Shi'Ar still send soldiers after her. The Guardians of the Galaxy show up to help but after the fact.

The comic starts with Scott having a dream of Jean saying she found his 'I love you note' and asked why he never told her sooner. He then snaps back into reality and finds himself on a spaceship with his friends and the Guardians. Iceman and Angel explain the situation, and that yes, the raccoon and tree do talk. Scott demands to know where's Jean.

Jean wakes up trapped in a forcefield bubble and sees a huge gathering of different kinds of aliens. She wants to know who they are and is confused as to why she can't read their thoughts. Gladiator introduces himself to her and says they've seen to it that her mutant powers won't work there. She wants to know what's going on and he says she's been brought her to pay for her crimes. She doesn't know what they're talking about, but Gladiator doesn't care. She yells that they don't have the right to do this, and suddenly her she's sent flying out of the ship, still in the bubble, into the dark empty void.

On the outskirts of the Shi'Ar Empire, the X-Men and the Guardians talk a little. Kitty blames herself for everything that happened. Rocket Raccoon asks why they brought kids from the past to this timeline, and wishes Iceman would stop calling him a raccoon. Scott says they came to the present because he told they were supposed to prevent an apocalypse feels they were lied to. Angela asks Beast what mutants are, and he explains. Just then the ship is being rocked. They were found by the Shi'Ar. Rocket Raccoon tries to talk to them.

Angela and Groot get ready to leave the ship and enter the battle as Quill navigates the ship closer. Gamora tells him to be careful. Just as he brags about being able to dodge the Shi'Ar attacks as if they were nothing, their ship is hit. Kitty says she has bad luck in space.

Jean Grey wakes up and sees a woman sitting at a table, named Oracle. She is also a 'minder' what they call telepaths and she tells her she's been transported to the Shi'Ar homeworld. She tells Jean that she will be put on trial for her crimes and asks if she already knows about her legacy when she entered this time period. Jean says she was shown the future, and Oracle asks if she understood what the Phoenix was.

Jean says she saw her whole life in a burst. Jean asks what she's being accused of. Oracle tells her she murdered a planet. Jean is saddened but says she hasn't. Oracle tells her to look inside herself. The Oracle states she sees no memory of Jean's actions as the Phoenix. Jean says she would never do that, and if she knows she's innocent, she will tell the others. Oracle says that's what the trial is for, and says she admires Jean's sense of love and caring for so many. Jean yells at her and Oracle advises her to watch her temper. She then leaves, and Jean is trapped in the bubble again in the emptiness of darkness.

Angela, Groot and Dax leap into action, while the others stay behind to watch the ship. X-23 wants to join them, but Gamora wants to keep her on the ship. Rocket Raccoon wants to propose to Angela when all of this is over (random??) when suddenly another spaceship arrives and says they'll help Quill 'wrap things up'. Quill tells his men to get out of the way as the other ship fires a blast at the Shi'Ar vessel.

It's the Starjammers and both Corsair and Quill thought the other was dead (Corsair thought they wouldn't survive the ordeal with the Badoon). Scott is confused as to why everyone is calling this guy 'Summers'. Corsair says if they're going to attack the Shi'Ar, they can count on his help. Quill says there's someone that would like to say hi. Cyclops is shocked to hear 'Major Christopher Summers' talk to him and ask him who he's talking to...

My Opinions-

Hoo boy, now even the Starjammers are getting involved. It's gonna get wild and crazy. I remember them from the 90's X-Men cartoon, and to top it off, Corsair is actually Scott's father. They didn't quite get along in the 90's cartoon but I'm not sure if that was the case in the comics. Considering that Classic Cyclops still thinks his father and brother are dead at this point of his life, imagine his surprise to find out that his father is alive and a space pirate. All while he's still wrapping his head around the fact that they're now dealing with aliens.

On the same note, Jean is getting a fast forwarded abridged version of her future life. Imagine finding out the future you caused galaxy levels of genocide and a race of aliens wants you to pay.

I do like how Iceman's jokes keep things somewhat positive. He's the jokester of the group and tries his best to keep his sense of humor despite all of this going on. He's been one of my favorites so far, besides Rocket and Quill. Can't wait to see what happens next.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
