Helen of Wyndhorn #3

Written by Ninja Jupi Helen of Wyndhorn #3 Well, here we are back for the next issue of this interesting series. Let’s see where it goes since last issue left off with Helen accompanying her grandfather to reunite the exotic animal with its mother. I’m curious as to what Helen saw and did for it. Let’s get into it!    Skipping the stuff in the present, I’m more interested in talking about the past events. Helen and her grandfather were gone for an entire month. Helen barged into Lilith’s room going on about her adventure, but wasn’t making much sense. I thought she was inebriated again, but she seemed to actually be sober. lol Helen mentioned her mother in an unflattering manner who died after giving birth to her.  In all honesty, this issue is just difficult to describe since it has to be read in order to be believed.  It’s like a mystical world they entered into. They had to gain entrance through some haggard-looking creature. Barnabas told Helen to shield he...

Helen of Wyndhorn #2

Written by Ninja Jupi It took a while, but I finally managed to get Issue 2 of this series thanks to Mark! Appreciate you, man. It seemed to be sold out everywhere despite it just having come out at the time. Luckily I didn’t have that problem with issue 3 since I preordered that and the same will go for future volumes. Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it. This volume opens with a book signing event. The author is Thomas Rogers, and the book that’s being signed is for a fan who happens to be the niece of Lilith Appleton from the previous volume.  It’s been three years since the interview she had and within the past year, she’d passed away. It seems the niece didn’t know much about her time working for the estate.  So, we get a flashback to the aftermath of how the last volume ended. They’re sitting down to a meal with Helen’s grandfather. Of course she wants some clarification of what happened and why it happened. It also seems that after the incident...

Helen of Wyndhorn #1

Written by Ninja Jupi This is another comic that was included in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi batch I picked up when visiting the comic shop with Mark. I wasn’t sure what to expect when coming across this Dark Horse comic based on the cover. My mind jumped to an old-school mystery vibe in the vein of Agatha Christie, but not necessarily a murder mystery.  That aside, let’s get into it and see what we have in store. 😊 The story opens with an old lady being interviewed by either a writer or a journalist. The old woman is named Lilith Appleton. She is recounting her time when young working as a governess at the Wyndhorn estate, which have had odd happenings apparently. Lilith’s story takes place during 1935 - 1941, but the present-day portions is seemingly taking place in the mid-90s.  Going back to the past, we see a young Lilith being tasked with fetching the daughter of the recently deceased writer, C. K. Cole and bringing her back to her grandfather’s estate.  The daughter was su...

Forgotten Runes: Wizard’s Cult #1

Written by Ninja Jupi Back on May 11, Mark and I went to the local comic book shop. I picked up a special comic theme pack which consisted of works that fell under the Fantasy/Sci-fi genre. For May, due to Free Comic Book Day back on May 4, they were doing something special each week for the month. This was one of the comics found in this batch which is from Titan Comics. This story is about a guy named Crowley. He reminds me of a pirate, but this entire setting feels like it belongs in a pirate story or world. Anyway, Crowley, as the story opens, is shown staring out at the sea intently from atop a seaside cliff. You think he’s alone, but he has a snake companion on his shoulder responding back on his comments. They’re on a mission to take special cargo from a ship. The snake is going on about whether or not the mission was worth it and if they could trust the one to compensate them for their services. Crowley feels that they can, but the reptile is still skeptical. Next there is a fl...
