Death of Superman 2 (Justice League of America # 69)

By Mark Rodriguez  If it's one of the things left out in the animated Superman Doomsday movie that woulda been cool is seeing Doomsday take down several DC superheroes before Superman himself stepped in. Kinda like in DBZ where the villains take out the regular fighters before Goku shows up, the Justice League of America all took a shot at Doomsday and were ripped apart to showcase just how powerful this new mystery monster was. Let's all see how this plays out as Bloodwynd, Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, Blue Beetle, Maxima, Fire and Ice try to stop this unstoppable menace. Last time a mysterious monster broke out of some sort of underground containment unit and started wrecking havoc wherever it went. Superman and Lois Lane were dealing with Clawster and some Underworlders, as the monster caused a truck to overrun and explode. Some people see this and decide it's time to call in the Justice League.   Justice League of America # 69 (heh) opens up with 'Down for the Count...

Death of Superman 1 (Superman Man of Steel # 18)

By Mark Rodriguez I still remember the media uproar when DC announced the death of Superman. Of course nowadays superhero deaths don't mean much, but back then DC was really trying to sell that they were killing Superman off for good. I wasn't even that much into comics then and that news hit the papers and the evening news. I mean, everybody knew who Superman was, so this was a huge deal. In current day I don't remember all that many comic book events actually making it on TV news. I remember classmates saying it was a dumb idea and if DC was going to put everything on Batman since they killed off their main cash cow. The funny thing is that nowadays, whether Superman is alive or dead, DC is still putting all their bets on Batman. "Doomsday Part 1" starts 'somewhere else' (it literally says so) as a gloved hand is punching away out some sort of metallic prison. After six pages of Kraanging against the metal prison, this mystery monster finally breaks fr...

DC X Sonic the Hedgehog # 2

By Mark Rodriguez Darkseid has set his sights on Sonic's world, going after the Chaos Emeralds. He has set forth an invasion of Parademons and destroyed the Master Emerald, causing Angel Island to fall to the ocean. Sonic and his friends team up with the Justice League to stop Darkseid. Sonic and the Flash run over to South Island and run into Darkseid himself who already has a Chaos Emerald in his possession. What will happen now? The issue opens in Green Hill Zone in South Island as Darkseid grabbing the blue Chaos Emerald. Sonic and Flash arrive to see this. Flash tells Sonic to consider Darkseid worse than anything he ever faced. Sonic smirks and says he likes a challenge. Sonic uses his Sonic Spin Dash and Flash rushes in to grab the emerald. Sonic zips all over Darkseid, which goes ignored, and the villain closes his fist, grabbing Flash. Darkseid tosses Flash into Sonic. Darkseid powers up his Omega Beam and Flash tells Sonic to run.   The Omega Beams chase Sonic and t...

Batman (1990) # 443

By Mark Rodriguez While Detective Comics issue 610 was my first ever Batman comic, as in, Batman is featured in the comic, Batman issue 444 was my first ever Batman comic as in the comic being titled Batman. Similar to Detective # 610, this one was also part 2 of a pre-existing story. I managed to track down the issue before it, so here we go. "The Coming of Crimesmith" opens with a hsband, wife and kid jogging together. They go to the wrong part of time and several gang members approach them, pulling out guns and knives. One of the thugs taunts the husband over wearing a fanny pack and asks if he has any bank cards. Batman watches and the scene reminds him of the tragedy that hit him over twenty years ago (???).  The husband tries to wrestle the gun away from the thug. His wife pleads to just give them the money. Another man pulls his own gun on the man, as their son watches helplessly. Just then a batarang smacks the gun out of the man's hand. As the man are confused,...

Comic Book Stash 2/24/2025

By Mark Rodriguez This time I went to Third Eye Comics on a Monday before the comics in the pull box piled up too high. I found out that Street Fighter Prime was already out, so we went to Stories for that one. I also won the bid for two classic Spider-Man comics over at Hipcomic. Let's check out what I got this time around.   Eddie Brock Carnage # 1 It seems that while Brock's son is Venom, now Brock has the Carnage Symbiote. Can he still be a hero while keeping Carnage's murderous impulses at bay?  Eddie Brock Carnage # 1 Review   Aliens VS Avengers # 3 Back after some monthly delays. I'll eventually get to this one . All New Venom # 3 Dylan Brock continues to piece together who the new Venom is, when suddenly Madame Masque strikes! All-New Venom # 3 Review   Street Fighter Prime # 0  The new series begins as the Street Fighters face all new villains. I saw some alternate covers and it seems one of the new bad guys is that lumberjack lady we saw in the Blanka ...

Comic Book Stash 2/7/2025

By Mark Rodriguez We haven't hit the comic shop in almost a month so the comics have really piled up. We knew we just had to hit Third Eye Comics this week no matter what or the stack would have gotten even higher. Somehow we also missed an issue. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles # 6 - The Turtles' adventures continue now that the gang has gotten back together. If they can even get a long anymore. TMNT Saturday Morning Adventures # 21- Raph and Casey run into each other and face off against Rudolph Cobrato, that one snake bad guy from 'Snakes Alive', where Leo had to overcome his fear of snakes. Somehow I missed issue 20. I'll have to track that down. TMNT Saturday Morning Adventures # 21 Review   Black Canary- Best of the Best # 3- The fight between Black Canary and Lady Shiva continues. TMNT/Naruto # 2- There seems to have been a delay between the first issue and this one. The unlikely crossover between an indie comic and manga continues. The Spectacular Spider-Men ...

Comic Book Stash 1/10/2025

By Mark Rodriguez The first comic haul of 2025! We hit Third Eye Comics and grabbed six books this time around. I also got a classic comic from Hipcomics just in time. Batman # 156- The story continues as we now know that Riddler somehow framed Gordon for the Mayor's murder. There's also a new hero in town, and there's also Bruce's mystery brother trying to take the majority in Wayne shares. Batman # 156 Review Batgirl # 3 - Cassandra has to trust her mother, Lady Shiva as their adventures continue. Batman Dark Patterns #2- Batman is after the Wound Man, a man incapable of feeling pain, but very capable of dishing it out. Batman Dark Patterns # 2   Two-Face # 2- Two Face deals with the divorce between the King and Queen of Hearts. The Spectacular Spider-Men # 11- Peter and Miles deal with a new hero in town, Elemental. All New Venom- # 2- After the Venom War ended, we continue with this series of the one and only Venom. I'll eventually get to this one and see wh...

Two-Face # 1

By Mark Rodriguez Several of Batman's villains have had their own comic book series over the years, some even movies and TV shows. From what I know, the former District Attorney turned crime boss, Harvey Dent has never had his own comic, not counting that Batman and Robin # 23 from several years back where all the books were renamed to the villains the heroes are tied to that one month. I guess Harvey was of two minds regarding that, but here we are with the first issue of his new series. Let's check it out. "Face VS Face" opens from the perspective of Harvey's darker personality. He remembers the court case and when Salvatore Maroni took a flask of acid and spilled it onto Harvey's face. This led to the birth of Two-Face. From then one there were two minds in one body, trying to co-exist. Harvey always went for fairness and trying to control the chaos rather than enjoy it. Two-Face says it wasn't always Harvey's fault though. Batman was always there...
