Avengers-X-Men AXIS # 2

By Mark Rodriguez

After Cyclops killed Professor Xavier during the Avengers VS X-Men storyline, the Red Skull gained access to his mind and powers. When he started capturing mutants to brainwash them, Magneto took it upon himself to kill him. However, killing him unleashed a surge of psychic energy and it turned the Red Skull into the Red Onslaught. Now with his new powers, he is spreading hatred telepathically, causing riots to break out around the world. As the Avengers and X-Men face off against him, Red Skull reveals he saw into Iron Man's mind and saw his Civil War plans. He unleashes two Stark Sentinels made out of Adamantium!

The issue opens with Iron Man in a daze, apparently having been knocked out during the battle against the Stark Sentinels. Captain Falcon wakes him up and asks him how to stop them, but Tony doesn't know. Tony only remembers thinking about creating them and how he would do it, but not actually making them. He figures out they must be containment units and their energy attacks are Pym Particles. Tony is blasted by one of the giant robots and goes down. Sam soon follows.

Iron Man tries to focus all his power on his thrusters so he can escape. Just then the Sentinel is blasted by Dr. Strange, and soon Magneto, Rogue and the Scarlet Witch arrive to help. Rogue says she felt Xavier still inside Onslaught somehow. Strange and Scarlet discuss how to channel Onslaught so that Xavier can gain control.

Despite being at odds, Iron Man and Magneto work together to take the Sentinels down. Iron Man says these Sentinels were meant for dealing with heroes, not actual murdering villains, so Magneto can use his powers to overheat them while Tony keeps them busy.

Rogue flies right through the Red Skull's eye and Strange and Scarlet get ready to use their powers on him. Nova flies off to help Rogue deal with the Sentinels, but it interferes with the plan Iron Man and Magneto had set up. Iron Man is swatted down by the giant adamantium robots, and Nova is soon taken down too. One of the Sentinels notices what Dr. Strange and the Scarlet Witch are up to.

The Sentinel blasts Strange and Wanda down, and Magneto is blasted back to. One of the robot tries to stomp on Iron Man and the Armored Avenger tries his best to push against the giant foot. He feels ashamed that his own technology is against him and his friends. Magneto just stands and watches Tony gets crushed, but Nightcrawler appears to grab him and warp out of harm's way.

Iron Man wakes up later with a small crew of the remaining heroes. Invisible Woman tells him that they are safe for now and Quentin is using his powers to block Red Skull's mind control. All the other heroes have been either taken down or are too busy fighting off War World Hate. Iron Man says it can't end this way and says it's up to them to save the world from the Red Skull. Despite their differences, the small band of heroes agree to work together.

The only plan now is to have Sue and Nightcrawler get them past the Red Skull, have Quentin block his mind control and hit the giant villain with everything they have. X-Men, Avengers and Inhumans all team up to fight off the Red Onslaught. As the fight rages on, the heroes are blasted away by the Sentinels one by one until Iron Man is left to face the giant robots and the Red Skull alone.

The Red Skull taunts Tony, saying his ego rivals his own and now he will die alone. Just then, Magneto arrives with reinforcements, an assortment of villains including Loki, Hobgoblin, the Absorbing Man, Deadpool, Carnage and even Dr. Doom, all eager to take down the Red Skull.

My Opinions-

I'm enjoying this series so far, especially with seeing all of these heroes and villains show up and take part. This story deals with Tony as he monologues throughout the issue about how all his life he made lists of weakness of people he wanted to be better with. Unfortunately he also did it against fellow superheroes, ala Batman's Tower of Babel, and now the Red Skull has used his own knowledge against him with super powered sentinels. Loved banter between Magneto and Iron Man.

The battle continues as Magneto brings out some villains to help out. I always like the idea that the villains help defeat major world-ending threats because they also live in this world, so if the super major bad guy wins, they all die too. It's funny seeing Carnage and Deadpool on the same team since they fought each other in a mini-series a few months prior.

Let's see what happens next issue as the issue escalates. I also want to add that it's always cool to see the Summers brothers working together. It's something that you just don't see as often as you would think.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
