The Amazing Spider-Man # 4 (2018)

By Mark Rodriguez

While fighting Taskmaster and Black Ant, Peter Parker was accidentally hit by a beam fired by the same Isotope Genome Accelerator device that radiated the spider that bit him years go. It was set to help Connors hopefully remove the Lizard from his being, and thus this beam separated Parker and Spider-Man into two different people. Peter is now a normal human without his powers and can finally live a normal life, while Spider-Man can go out and fight bad guys. However some of Connors' testing proves the split between skills, training and other things might even include one's own moral compass, so Pete worries that this Spider-Man might be all Power, no Responsibility.

Back to Basics Part 4 opens with a hunter running from something and tripping and falling. Elsewhere the man behind the Tri-Sentinel is not happy with how Spider-Man is taking it down. This wanted to take advantage of Osborn being taken out of the picture for his own plans and sees them falling apart. He finds a disc he is looking for which provides him instructions on how to control the Tri-Sentinel. The video played explains how the Tri-Sentinel was created by Loki and was first stopped by Captain Universe, but when it comes to how to control it, the disc cannot be read. The man angrily punches the monitor. He says the giant robot came from the Life Foundation, and even though they eventually declared bankruptcy, their building should contain weapons of mass destruction (the subreddit said so). This man is Mendel Stromm.

Spidey explains that Strom was the man that created the Goblin formula, and after a falling out with Norman Osborn, he was sent to jail and died, but he always manages to find a way to come back.

Elsewhere, the Looter and his men try to rob and outdoor arts expo. Spider-Man comes to save the day, piloting the now-Spider-themed Tri-Sentinel, expect the giant robot accidentally smashed all of the valuable paintings he was trying to protect. Spider-Man keeps using the giant robots to defeat other bad guys like Stegron, Hydro-Man and the Cyclone, always causing mass destruction. All Parker can do is watch on TV and do nothing.

Peter has been carrying the world on his shoulders, basically helping everyone he runs into since his sense of responsibility is so strong. He even got arrested since it's illegal to pay other peoples' parking meters in some states. Spider-Man is out posing with celebrities, appearing on talk shows and getting endorsement deals. This leaves Parker angry and jealous.

Aunt May sees that he looks upset and tells him she thinks he should take the class with Connors. May gives him an early birthday card with rent money since she's taken up online poker. She says he has so much potential but he always puts others' needs before his own. She says it might be time for him to look out for himself for a change.

Peter can't cash May's check but he does need a job soon. He tries to get Uber (I assume) but sees a new app called Uper Hero where Spider-Man charges people to swing them throughout the city. After he drops off his latest customer Parker steps in. Spider-Man leaves but Parker still knows how to use a web-shooter and webs onto Spidey's leg and hangs on for the ride.

Spider-Man is surprised that Peter is hanging on and they both soon land to talk. Peter talks about how the experiment split up them up down the middle, Spider-Man no longer has sense of responsibility. Spidey tells him he has no sense of humor. He tells Pete now that he isn't a part of him, he sees the kind of mess his life is. Someone with Spider-Man's powers and genius should be rich but that never happens to him as he's always getting fired, dumped and publicly shamed.

Peter asks him what about when being a hero stops being fun and he is forced to do something he doesn't like because it's the right thing to do. Spidey says it's not his problem. Pete says the last time he said something like that was when Uncle Ben died. Spider-Man doesn't remember who that is and he webs up Parker and leaves. Parker is surprised Spider-Man doesn't remember Uncle Ben and wonders how dangerous he can be without that memory holding him back. Peter is also stuck to a building for an hour and sees how annoying it is when he used to do that to people.

Pete returns to see Doc Connors and sees that everyone is sad. The lab mice, Horatio and Horatio II are dead. It seems the side effects of splitting them up continue to worsen until it gets to the point of memory loss and other things, until they both give out and die. The two halves need each other. Connors says he's thankful he didn't go with human testing, which of course worries Pete.

Meanwhile Stromm is upset at how he can't get another giant robot drone to work to go after the Tri-Sentinel. He is disappointed in himself since he 'can't even be a mad scientist right' especially since he's more of a chemist than a robotics expert. Just then he hears a voice of someone willing to help him, if he helps him kill Spider-Man. He says not to worry about losing the Tri-Sentinel because there are plenty more where that came from, as he sees a bunch of them flying his way.

My Opinions-

I don't know how Spider-Man running around with a Sentinel doesn't have the X-Men or Avengers step in. I can only assume this story has gone for a month or a few weeks if Spider-Man has been stopping several bad guys but also appear on talk shows and sell out to merchandising.

With the rush to unite Peter with Spidey before they both die, I guess this is gonna be short lived. It's kinda too bad cause I was wondering how the Avengers or anyone else would have reacted with this wild and crazy irresponsible Spider-Man, similar to how we saw them react to the Superior Spider-Man.

With Peter being literally powerless to stop Spider-Man, I'm really curious how he's going to accomplish them. And of course all the while the bad guys are doing stuff behind the scenes. I can only assume the voice speaking to Stromm is the same guy that was talking to Mysterio in issue 1. Who else will he include into his ranks?

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
