Astonishing X-Men # 14

By Mark Rodriguez

Havok is having a hard time trying to get back into the good graces of fellow X-Men and superheroes after he was temporarily a supervillain. He tries to form team with Beast but now both are under attack by the Reavers that are out to capture Mr. McCoy! Just then Banshee came in to help!

I was waiting quite a while for this issue, and I never expected to have found and bought it during my Las Vegas trip.

The issue opens with Banshee literally screaming the Reavers to pieces, but he flies around ignoring his friends. Havok blasts one of the Reavers into a wall and intends to question him, but the guy snaps his own neck. Just then Beast is held at gun point by one of the Reavers. Warpath suddenly busts in through the window behind them and slices the Reaver's head off.

Beast thought Warpath was part of Havok's team, but he didn't know about this either. Warpath is surprised Banshee is alive and says he was sent by Kitty Pryde to keep an eye on Havok. Beast examines the head of the Reaver and says these guys seem upgraded and he wonders if he can hack into their network.

Havok leaves and Warpath follows, keeping an eye on him. They go to visit Colossus, who is now a drunken mess due to his wedding with Kitty not happening recently. Havok tells them about the team he's forming and Colossus says his heart can't bear to around Kitty for now. Havok tells him that she won't be on it and he will be able to hit things. Colossus is in.

what's with all these superhero weddings where the woman backs out lately? Bruce Wayne feels your pain, buddy.
Havok calls Beast to see how he's doing. McCoy has been fired from the university but he find a list among the files in the Reaver's head. He says that was number one on that list. Havok asks what number was he and Beast says he was number 36, with number 35 being Hellion. The name that interests Havok the most is number 2. He asks Havok to join him on a road trip.

One road trip later, Beast, Havok, Warpath, Banshee and Colossus go to see Dazzler perform live on stage. After the show, the gang meets up with Dazzler now with shorter hair. She said she had to wear a wig and bellbottoms for her classic look as part of her anniversary tour.

Allison greets Banshee who still looks pretty much like a zombie. Beast said they came for specific business and she is eager to join their team since her concert tour has been awful. Beast says they actually came to see the person who manages her stage show, Forge. Allison is angry that they didn't come to see her and ask her to join them. Beast tells Forge he's on a list that the Reavers are looking for and it might be due to his machine making powers. Havok asks him to join them and he declines saying he can take care of himself and wants to enjoy the simple life. Dazzler throws them out of her dressing room.

The group is now outside and Havok says they can still wait until the Reavers come to Forge. Beasts says using Forge as bait would be unethical, and the guys have already arrived. Havok yells out 'X-Men Assemble!' and Warpath reminds him that's not their battle cry.

Banshee flies around, screaming at the soldiers as Havok and Warpath fight them off. As Banshee swoops back, one of the soldiers shoot him out of the air. Beast calls Colossus for support but the metal mutant is ran over by a huge military vehicle. Beast gets blasted back and takes cover with Havok.

Dazzler makes her entrance and flashes her lights upon the soldiers. Colossus lifts the jeep and tosses it onto the soldiers. Dazzler asks if she's cool enough to join their group and Havok thanks her for saving their lives. She's sporting one of her old outfits so her fans can recognize her and she says it feels good to be one of the X-Men again. Havok says they're not exactly X-Men.

Warpath examines one of the soldiers and finds a badge. He says it looks like they just attacked a bunch of federal agents.

My Opinions

I have to say I'm enjoying this story and kinda wish this was the start to a whole team in a whole new comic series. And while the story is about Havok's new team, let's remember this story started in issue 13, with other characters being featured in the past 12 issues. Whenever this story ends, I kinda hope Havok and the gang continue to stick around.

You have an interesting group with Havok and Beast reluctantly working together, a zombie-ish Banshee who woke up from a coma and isn't all there, an emotionally devastated Colossus, Warpath who is basically there to keep an eye on Havok and Dazzler, eager to get back in the superhero limelight. Love the team, and love this adventure and looks to become quite the thrill ride.

So the Reavers, and their employer want a specific group of mutants, and while defending Forge from some soldiers, they ended up attacking the Feds instead... but why were they even there to begin with? That in itself is suspicious. I can't wait to see what happens since the next issue looks like they're going to be considered outlaws... but they still have to stop the Reavers will escaping arrest. It should be awesome.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Batman/TMNT Adventures # 2

By Mark Rodriguez Batman was on the hunt for Two-Face who told him he went to another world. The Turtles discover Kraang portals and run into Clayface. As Batman discovers that Two-Face was telling the truth, the Joker and Harley find themselves in New York facing off against the Foot! This issue opens one week early as Harley is being brought into Arkham by security along a soapy floor. Harley 'slips' and takes advantage of this to take out the guards. She sets the Joker free and hands over his trademark outfit while she slips into her own. Joker complains that this break out was boring and lacks the flair he's used to. They both then see the shining Kraang portals. Joker gets and idea and drags the guards around to form a smile (with the portals being eyes) as they make their escape.  The Joker explains this to Shredder as he and Harley makes fun of his name. Shredder already lost his patience and he tells Bebop and Rocksteady to get rid of them. Joker offers to show the
