The next part of the first round of the Mae Young Classic continues. We've already seen some interesting characters like Rhea Ripley and Mercedes Martinez, so let's see who we see now. It looks like Kaitlyn will also be doing her WWE comeback in this episode.
Match 1- Kaitlyn VS Kavita Devi
It was a good match as Kaitlyn started things off with a running clothesline and three led drops onto her opponent. Kavita showed off her power moves, including an armbar submission and some brutal take downs. Kaitlyn showed her fans that she still got it as she managed to get out of one of Kavita's attempted slams and mount some offense. In the end Kaitlyn had Kavita down against the turnpost and she ran into her with a cannon ball. As Kavita got back up, Kaitlyn planted her down with a Spear and secured the win.
They didn't waste time bringing Kaitlyn in for the first match of this episode. She was known for her feud with AJ Lee back in the day and was also a Divas champ. She showed she still had the speed and the moves even though she'd been gone for several years. Kavita was decent opponent with her power moves and submissions. She was in last year's MYC losing to Dakota Kai and she was also in the Women's Battle Royale in this year's Wrestlemania. I feel a bit bad for her since I knew they weren't going to have Kaitlyn lose in the first round. Whoever was going to face her would have to go down.
Match 2- Toni Storm VS Jinny
The match started with Toni in control until Jinny managed to smash her face into the turnbuckle. From there she was able to bring on the pain and trap her in a shoulder lock several times.Toni would try some offense but then Jinny would get her in a very complex submission move that would add intense pressure to her legs and back while Jinny pulled her arms back. After several painful moments, Toni would grab the ropes and break the hold. She would grab Jinny in a violent suplex, almost knocking her out, and then finished the match with her Storm Zero finisher.
My god, Jinny is tiny but she knows how to bring the pain. She deserves kudos for this painful move alone. Only the above image can describe it perfectly since not even the commentary named the move. She is so damn amazing and a good heel. She's not afraid to sock Toni against the jaw and was even able to slam her a few times. However being tiny is also her weakness because that suplex she got from Toni nearly destroyed her.
Toni Storm also has a huge fanbase so she is someone I knew would not lose in the first round. She was in the previous MYC as well, only losing in the semi finals against the would-be winner Kairi Sane. This was a real match to show what Jinny was capable of before the inevitable would happen. Toni is pretty awesome too of course, and damn does that Storm Zero look devastating.
Match 3- Karen Q VS Xia Li
The match started with both women having a brief martial arts showdown and bowing in respect, however Karen showed her heel colors by slapping Xia in the face. This made Xia attack her up against the ringpost and when the referee pulled her back, Karen landed a kick to the face. Karen would take control of the match until Xia got fired up and started nailing her with kicks. Karen would grab Xia and slam her with a Samoa Drop and then climb the ropes to hit her with a Frog Splash. However, Karen missed her target and landed hard. Xia would run at her with a Flipping Axe Kick and pin her for the one-two-three.
Both women has amazing skills, and their little tussle in the beginning made me wish it was an all out martial arts battle. They still had some decent body slams, suplexes and the Samoa Drop that Karen performed, but I really did love that Flipping Axe Kick. That're pretty impressive.
Main Event match- Mia Yim VS Allysin Kay
The match started with Mia in control until Allysin hit her with a tackle that sent her flying across the ring. The action went outside of the ring where Mia missed a chop meant for Allysin and smashed her hand against the steel post instead. Allysin continued attacking her hand until Mia got her in an armbar. Allysin would pick her rival up and slam her with a spine buster. Allysin would try to get her ready for a big slam but Mia counters with a Sunset Power Bomb, but her frenemy still kicked out.
In the end Mia managed to take Allysin down with a series of dropkicks. Both women would duck under each other's kicks and then kick each other out. Mia would climb the ropes and her rival would try to stop her. Mia would hold onto Allysin's arm and leap off the top rope, hitting her with Soul Food. The move seemed to have hurt Mia a lot more than it did Allysin, but she was able to pin her rival and win the match.
This was such an intense match between rivals since apparently sometime in the indies, Mia broke Allysin's nose, and she was more than willing to return the favor. You can feel the intensity in the match as they both continued to trade punches as much as they did bodyslams. Props to Mia for being able to withstand smashing her hand against the post full force. Allysin managed to do her finisher, the Big D Discus Lariat, but it didn't finish the job. Mia's Soul Food finisher was kind of weird looking, I had to replay it several times to see exactly what it did to Allysin to make her actually fall back because it just looked like Mia fell on her back and took all the damage herself.
This was another great round of matches and we still got one last set to complete the first round of the tournament. I do have to say the first two matches had two things in common. They both started with the heel refusing to shake their opponent's hand in the beginning to signify they're heels, and they faced opponents with such big fanbases that of course they were going to lose. At least Karen Q hugged Xia and congratulated her on the win despite her heelish behavior during the match. I want to see more of Jinny and Allysin, so I hope we see them again in the future. Maybe Allysin can continue her feud with Mia and use her loss to her in this tournament as good promo fuel.

Kaitlyn changed a lot since her WWE days, most noticeably she ditched the blonde hair |

Like, IDK what is up with the picture, but Kaitlyn looks way better than that |

I do have to say, I do like Mia's look and golden tights. Maybe I'm just a sucker for blue hair, but the bright blue hair and golden tights really make the colors pop for her |
