IDW TMNT # 27 City Fall Part 6

By Mark Rodriguez

The final battle explodes as we get near the end of this epic saga and all the major characters gather around as the Shredder attempts to control the entire city. How will this all go down? Let's have a look.

City Fall Part 6 starts with Mikey and Woody checking out a bad part of town that he hates delivering pizzas to. Mikey goes disguised as a pizza delivery boy. The punks inside are confused since they didn't order pizza, but since they didn't have time to eat before going to the big Foot meeting, so they decide to kill the 'pizza boy' and take his pizza. Mikey quickly takes them down and asks how to get invited to this big meeting.

Meanwhile Angel talks to fellow Purple Dragon member Malo, about how she doesn't want them getting mixed up with the Foot and become killers like they were before. Hun steps in saying all that matters is that the Foot wants them and they will own the city soon, and whoever has a problem can answer to him. Angel does indeed have a problem with him. They have fought before and he let her off easy since he's friends with her father, but not this time. Angel smacks Hun with one of her sticks, but it hardly phases him, and he's ready to strike back.

Angel lookin like Psylocke

Just then the Foot arrive and invite them to the meeting to announce that they now control the city. Refusing to show up means their death. Hun happily accepts the invite and tells the Dragons that they will be stinkin' rich working with the Foot. Angel is done with the Dragons since they chose to follow Hun and says they'll regret that.

Elsewhere, Don and April are trying out Howard's anti-gravity gauntlets, while Raph is figuring out how to turn them on. Just then Mikey comes in and tells them he found out about the meeting in which Shredder, Karai, Alopex and Leonardo will be attending. Splinter shows up saying they have all done well and now is time to get Leonardo back.

Leonardo is having more dreams with Shredder as his father, but this time it's a nightmare based on their original execution back in Ancient Japan (The IDW TMNT are reincarnations of Japanese children that Shredder himself had executed). Leo watches as Shredder has his brothers executed, and then prepares to do the same to him. His mother, Tang Shen appears, crying and saying 'this is no place for him'. As Shredder kills him, Leo wakes up from his dream yelling for his mother. Karai is watching him and and asks if his duties haunt him in his dreams. She reminds him of the big meeting and he asks her if everything is ready for it. She says of course.

Meanwhile, the heroes prepare for the big fight to come as Hob and Slash load their pick-up truck up with weaponry, despite Raph's smart-ass remarks against it. April decides to text Casey on the current situation before she leaves to join them.

Alopex has some tea with Kitsune, impressing her with her mastery of the Japanese language. The fox is amazed by the stories of Kitsune being the witch that brought the Shredder back, and also being a fox. Kitsune then surprises her by speaking English, something she has never done before. When asked why she never spoke English before, Kitsune says as foxes they must be sly and cautious since treachery lies everywhere. They must know when to watch, and when to act.

Casey gets April's text and worries about her. Angel bring Casey his old hockey mask, lost when he first attacked by the Shredder. Casey mentions his father dropped by to give him a new mask, and telling him he stopped drinking. Angel confirms he did stop drinking, but also got crazy ripped and is calling himself Hun again, taking control of the Purple Dragons. She tells him that he will be at the big meeting that Shredder will be holding, and Casey decides they have to go there and stop Hun from hurting his family.

The heroes arrive at an abandoned theater where Shredder is holding the meeting for basically every low-life in town. Shredder announces that the Foot owns the city now and taken down anyone that stood in their way. The last gang standing that was still opposing them was the Savate. Shredder shows them the defeated Victor and plans to make an example of him for all that defy him. Leo watches as Shredder executes Victor and has more visions of his mother telling him that this is no place for him.

Splinter decides it's time to act and Hob blows up a car with a bazooka. Slash charges into action, following by Don, Mike and Raph. Don levitates a car with his gauntlet and send it crashing through the wall of the theater, surprising the Shredder. Leo mumbles about his mother, and Karai points out that he's snapping out of his trance. Splinter demands his son back, and they will not leave empty-handed.

Hun grabs a gun from one of his men and fires upon Hob, hitting his leg. He then prepares to shoot at Slash, but Casey smacks the gun out of his hand. Casey and Angel stand ready to face Hun.

Shredder tries to attack Don, but he sends him flying back with his anti-gravity gauntlet, knocking him into Alopex. Shredder sends Leo to attack him, and Don knocks him back the same way. Raph tackles Leo down and tries to talk sense into him, but it only confuses him further. Splinter grabs Leonardo as he is still having his breakdown, while Don prepares an escape route. Shredder asks about Karai and just then she appears and fires an arrow into Don's gauntlet, damaging it. To makes matters worse, Karai is joined by the newly mutated Bebop and Rocksteady.

My opinions

Finally everything explodes as the big mission to rescue Leonardo begins. I like the visions of Tang Shen, which even though she's still dead, gave her more of a role than she ever had in any other TMNT media other than being 'the woman Yoshi was in love with that Saki killed'.

Shredder's meeting scene was pretty cool, and what better way to prove a point than to kill the leader of possibly the second-deadliest gang in town. I see by now the Savate was used a stepping stone to prove the badass-ness of Shredder and the Foot, and I guess in that aspect it work. I just wish poor Victor did more. But c'mon Alopex... Shredder got sent flying into you and you're already down for the count? How pitiful can you get... or is it all an act? What is she planning with Kitsune?

The Turtles themselves were cool. I like how Mike was able to get the lowdown on this meeting noone else knew about. Plus he was able to handle all those thugs and beat the info out of them all by himself, where in other versions he might have needed help or been kidnapped. This is probably one of the more competent Michealangelo we've seen yet, not overdoing the surfer slang attitude and pizza-obsession to the point where it affects his better judgement like other versions. Don was smart to use the anti-gravity gauntlet and it was nice to see it in action as it continues to be a homage not just to the IDW Don micro but also the original Mirage Don Micro. Raph didn't do much cept insult Hob.

Speaking of Old Hob, he was ok, but I wonder how badly he was wounded, and if the others will bother to tend to him or not. After all, he can easily come back and stab them in the back. Slash is an all-out powerhouse and is basically the Leatherhead of the series so far. They have a Foot army... but we have a Slash. I do wonder how April felt being in the same room as them, especially with how dangerous Slash was in his debut.

As for Hun, to explain briefly, his micro covered how Shredder gave him ooze to pump him up back to his prime, returning Casey's dad to when he used run the streets as Hun. However, during all this, Shredder also promised he'll get the guy that hurt his son if he works for him.. without telling him that he himself was the one that put Casey in the hospital. Now that Casey and Angel are face to face with him, I hope of them mentions how Shredder impaled Casey so we can see how he will react to that.

And as for Bebop and Rocksteady... they first appeared as human thugs in the Rapheal Micro. They were basically chasing Alopex down until Raph and Casey defeated them and rescued her. Alopex played the damsel in distress and Raph was about to take her back to the lair to tend to her wounds. However, something in her story didn't sound right and Raph knew she up to something and a fight broke out. After the battle, Bebop and Rocksteady tell Alopex that if they were mutants like her they would have had no trouble beating Raphael. One of the Foot Ninja (Shredder in disguise) told them it would be whenever the master decided. We didn't see much of them after that, though they did have occasional cameos here and there in the Foot hideout.

In their micro we see that they were the last two standing after a battle royale with other gang members, which earned them the right to be mutants. Totally stoked on being powerhouses, Karai took them to a meeting with a gang called the Ghost Boys. However a fight broke out and they ruined the whole deal and managed to destroy the Ghost Boys' hideout and get the police involved. Karai sees them as too stupid to work for them and sends the Foot after them. However, the mutants easily destroy them all and prove themselves as powerful weapons of mass destruction. On top of that, they STILL want to work with the Foot. Karai decides to keep them in their employ but reminds them that the Foot own them now.

My main issue with their redesign is how they were given short animalistic legs, which makes them look cartoonish and disproportionate. Especially Rocksteady with his huge upper body, he almost looked like a Popeye cartoon character. The micro drew them just fine with normal legs, but I guess the hooved look will be used in the main series. I really don't like how they were drawn here. That sledgehammer just looks so small and ridiculous in Rocksteady's hands due to the size difference. I don't know.. after the super-awesome intro with the incredible art involved, it makes me wish the guy who did the micro would draw the next issue.

Here's how the looked in their mini. A bit cartoonish but more in proportion
I do hope Bebop and Rocksteady put up a good fight next issue. The Turtles' main mission is to escape, and this comic tends to make them shove anyone out of their way as they escape. They already took down Shredder and Kitsune like chumps in this issue, though mostly due to Donatello's anti-gravity gantlet (Shredder seems to big on threats and intimidation but goes down quick during an actual fight). Plus, they have Slash on their side, which would help with the powerhouse advantage.

Either way, it was a fun read, and let's see how they resolve all of this in one issue. It seems that Leo is snapping out of it, but we'll have to wait and see what happens next.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
