Astonishing X-Men # 13

By Mark Rodriguez

In Dazzler's recent one-shot, Colossus went over to recruit Allison into the X-Men once again, as they are in the state of rebuilding. After trying to leave the superhero life behind and focus on her music, but she eventually decided give it a shot once again. Now she joins the current line up of Colossus, Beast, Warpath and Havok at the start of a whole new adventure. Let's see how this goes.

'Until our Hearts Stop part 1' opens with Havok trying to fight off a monster and knocking him into a building with his energy blasts. Just then the Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Ghost Rider show up.

I wasn't expecting to see the Avengers here. The only one missing is She-Hulk but I guess we can assume she's in the car with Ghost Rider? And poor Carol, what have they done with you?

It turns out the monster was one of Mole Man's creatures that got loose and the Avengers agreed to peacefully bring him back. This will however, anger Mole Man and bring trouble down the line. Tony mentions that Havok tried to kill everyone at the planet at one point. Captain America pulls Tony back and tells Havok he might have to step down for a while and figure out what he has to do in life before jumping back in the hero world.

Elsewhere, Miss Sinister is about to commit violent surgery on a still conscious young woman. Just then the Reavers bust in and one of them, named Pierce, manages to subdue her and inject her with something to knock her out.

From what I read, Miss Sinister was created by Mister Sinister to be activated upon the event of his death to continue his work. So I guess Mister Sinister is currently dead in the comics?
Back at the Xavier Institution For Mutant Education and Outreach in Central Park, New York. The events with Havok getting in the way of the Avengers taking Mole Man's monster away are on TV, with more of Tony's trash talking towards him.

Havok tells his class that Xavier's dream was for Mutants to use their gifts to help the world that fears and hates them. Lately it seems the X-Men were mostly taking care of themselves and their own survival. He says it's time to be heroes and show the people that hate and fear them that they have no reason to. One of the students, Rockslide asks if he wasn't a super villain a short time ago. Havok says he's still an X-Men and he was only evil due to Red Skull's attack during the AXIS storyline. The kid and Havok argue until Kitty Pryde phases through the chalkboard and calls him.

Kitty asks what Havok is doing, and he says he wants the kids to form a team and be on the front lines with the others. Kitty doesn't want him to put her students in danger. Havok says he was an X-Man before she ever was, and she doesn't own the X-Men name. Kitty says she legally does. Havok leaves.

The Reavers return with Miss Sinister to Callahan. Their deal was supposed to end with the capture of Sinister, but Callahan says he still has Pierce in their custody after Alpha Flight didn't know what to do with him. He activates a device that zaps Pierce and his men due to implants he hid in them. Callahan tells his men to load up Pierce and his two friends into the van with Sinister, and kill the rest of the Reavers.

Havok is sitting by himself near an amusement park and has hallucinations of Bastion telling him that he is a stray dog that will never go home. Havok freaks out and accidentally blasts a wall of a nearby motel. The owner will call the police and Havok runs off.

Beast is teaching a class that brings up a theory that the origin of genetic mutation might be bacterial based. He spots Havok in the class and greets him happily. Once everyone in the class leaves, Beast drops the act and asks what he wants. Havok wants to start an X-Men team and Beast tells him Kitty inherited the trademark X-Men after Xavier passed.

In Beast's lab, Havok asks him if he really wants to be a teacher instead of saving the world like they used to. Beast says he's tired and still feels the pain from all the shooting and stabbings he'd endured over the years, and tell him half his teeth are dental implants. Havok says they both messed up and here's a chance to make things right.

Beast tells Havok to get out. Havok think he's joking until Beast tackles him down out of the way of gunfire. The Reavers show up and start shooting. Beast blames Havok for this, but it's evident that the Reaver are actually here for Beast. Beast finally fights back and Havok helps out but they are still seriously outgunned and have to hide from the gunfire.

Beast tells Havok that now is a good time to call his team. Havok says Beast is the first one to not say no so far, to which McCoy says he DID say no. Summers has an idea but it might be destructive and Beast says right now their own destruction is assured. Havok agrees and says he should cover his ears. Beast opens the door to the lab and Banshee flies in, and screams the Reavers to pieces.

There is an extra page of a story called Countdown to Extinction where several X-Men are dead and an army of Sentinels arrive to take down the two remaining mutants, Dazzler and Warpath. They both rush the giant robots to give it one last go.

My Opinions

Well, Dazzler isn't in this one just yet, even though she's on the cover. I was sure I read she would appear in issue 14, but seeing her on the cover as well as '1st Issue of a Brand New Era!' made me think maybe it was issue 13. However, the story starts here and I would have been confused if I had picked up issue 14 and it started with Havok, Beast and Banshee fighting off a group of Reavers.

The story is interesting as Havok is trying to find his place in the world after being turned evil during the AXIS storyline in which a battle with the Red Skull turned all the good guys into bad guys and vice versa. It seems after the events of this, Havok remained evil and caused a lot of trouble until Emma turned him back to normal.

Given this info though, Tony pisses me off with his attitude seeing as the AXIS also made HIM a super villain of sorts when he became The Superior Iron Man for a good while. He's the last person to be calling Havok a villain, especially since during that arc, Tony himself shielded himself from becoming good again, which also caused Havok to remain evil. It's HIS fault. Damn you Tony Stark.

Havok is down on his luck and I see where he's coming from... but maybe rushing out to form your own team, despite you being a former team leader, might be too much too soon.

We'll see what happens next issue as this Callahan guy wants Miss Sinister for some sort of evil purpose, and I'm assuming he also sent the Reavers after Beast. We'll see what happens. I recall the interviews regarding this new arc mentioning there will be 'one more character' that they didn't want to mention, and I guess it turned out to be Banshee.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
