Before the dawn of man, Odin and his group defeated a fallen Celestial. Now in modern day giants fall from the sky as giant insects attack from underground. The Avengers reunite as they face these dangers, as Loki reveals he is the one that has brought The Final Host to Earth. Thor and She-Hulk go to see Odin to demand answers. Loki and the Dark Celestials capture Captain America and take him to see the Progenitor, a giant being underground whose death means the death of the planet.
Odin reveals a hidden hall in Asgard that no one has ever seen by his design. Inside it lies a secret that will either save or doom the world, though he tells them it won't kill their enemy, but make their own deaths more spectacular. She-Hulk impatiently ripped the door from its hinges and she races with Thor to find this secret first. Odin says they are racing towards their doom.
At the Mountains of Mount Olympia, Doctor Strange and Iron Man arrive to find that the Eternals are already dead, either by self infliction or upon each other. Strange offers his condolences and Tony admits he barely knew them. Tony and Strange scout the area as the billionaire explains that the Eternals were created by the Celestials and put on Earth to guard it. Apparently ancient experiments on proto humans by the Celestials led to the eventual mutations and super powers of today. Strange still wonders how the army of giant insects fit into this.
Iron Man finds Ikaris, one of the Eternals, barely holding onto life. He says they discovered the truth and it tore them apart. He says they weren't put on Earth to protect humanity but to cultivate it as a pathogen for the gods. Strange tries to stabilize him but the Eternal tells Tony that they can't let the Final Host unleash The Horde. He says only the Unimind can stop them, only Tony can be the cure. He touches his face which causes him pain.
At the Alpha Flight Space Station, Captain Marvel tells Black Panther that the insects are called The Horde and they devour entire solar systems. They are said to be long time enemies of the Celestials. T'Challa says they have the same energy that the Final Host has. Carol says there are reports of the giant insects erupting out of the bodies of the fallen Celestials. They have to stop The Horde before it's too late.
At the North Pole, Loki tells Captain America that the Alpha Celestial they are witnessing came to Earth four billion years ago, but not to experiment on humanity, but to die. The Final Host will start to destroy everything. Ghost Rider arrives, being able to locate it by sticking a part of the Dark Celestial tech under his possessed car's hood. He notes the oceans start to boil and the car dives underwater, surprising even Ghost Rider.
Thor and She-Hulk make it to the center of the hall as the extreme cold makes it difficult to advance. There they find and orb which is the Blood of Ymir, the first of the Ice Colossi, the father of all giants. Thor collapses, succumbing to the cold. She-Hulk grabs Thor to keep him warm. She kisses him deeply to keep him warm.
Odin says his son doesn't listen and soon they will have to face the Final Host in battle. He recalls after his original group defeated the fallen Celestial, they faced the First Host as they came for revenge, and they didn't have a chance in the world.
Iron Man and Doctor Strange set off to find the Celestials. Carol is wired up and she tells Panther to kill her if anything goes wrong and she turns into a giant roach. Panther obliges and prepares to activate their machine. Loki grabs Cap by the neck and tells him that superheroes overall were a mistake. They were never supposed to be here.
Thor and She-Hulk return to Odin holding the Blood of Ymir. Thor thanks She-Hulk for saving his life and she says 'whatever'. Odin tells Thor to make their final battle a thunderous show, and when they all lay defeated and broken at the feet of the Final Host to face his judgement like a god and say good bye to Midgard once and for all, like he once should have done. Odin recalls himself being the only one left as his group have all fallen to their fight against the First Host so many years ago.
My Opinions
So we discover more of the MCU's lore, as there are legends and stories of Celestials experimenting on prehistoric humans which would lead to all of the superheroes today. In a way it does sorta explain why Bruce Banner and Peter Parker became superheroes instead of just dying from radiation and gamma poisoning. However, Loki claims this was all a mistake and superheroes were never supposed to exit and the Final Host is here to correct this once and for all.
If the Celestials are dropping dead and have the Horde basically eating them from the inside, it might mean the Final Host infected them with the bugs? And also Strange does have the million dollar question. What do the bugs have to do with the Final Host since they've been festering underground for millions of years too? Did the First Host plant them on Earth waiting for this day to come? And if they killed the original Avengers, why did the Final Host spare Odin?
I guess we'll find out next issue. This story definitely got me invested. And also wow, super unexpected She-Hulk kiss. I loved the way she shrugged it off like 'whatever'.

The issue opens with Odin recalling how he led the team of Agamotto, the first Rider, The First Iron Fist, the First Black Panther and the First Phoenix into battle to defeat a Celestial, who was weakened and already dying. The All Father tells Thor and She-Hulk that Loki's Final Host is a different breed that can't be stopped.

I'm a fan of Carol, but I know there are so many people out there that wish T'Challa would kill her |
