Avengers- Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2018) # 5

By Mark Rodriguez

Giants fall from the sky and killer insects burst from the ground to attack people. These recent events resulted in the Avengers return to action. Thor and She-Hulk went to see Odin who allowed them to seek a weapon that could help defeat The Final Host, the Blood of Ymir. Loki shows Captain America the Alpha Celestial, whose death means the death of Earth, and Ghost Rider is on his way. Despite all efforts, Odin still says this will all be a losing battle, similar to how he lost his teammates centuries ago when he also faced the Final Host.

The story opens with the tale of the Progenitor, the first Celestial to land on Earth, four billion years ago. It didn't land there as some sort of plan, he fell as he was sick and dying from an infection. He was infected by The Horde. The poor thing suffered as the space locusts ate him from the inside out until he died. As it died, it's infection would seep into the Earth and stew more millions of years, affecting the natural course of evolution. Loki tells Captain America that this is what spawned the huge assortment of superheroes on Earth. Ghost Rider is hiding and overhearing the conversation.
Even though this poor creature is dying, I have to say the art for this sequence is simply amazing
Cap says it doesn't matter what started life, but what they do with it, and he will stop Loki and the Final Host. Cap headbutts Loki, and the God of Mischief tells him the only way for him to grow beyond his nature and know the truth in full detail.

Loki further explains that the death of the Progenitor brought forth another Celestial who came looking for him at 1 million BC. It was defeated and left for dead by Odin and his crew. With two missing Celestials, the First Host arrived with others and defeated everyone, leaving Odin to await final judgement. This never happened as the First Host, hoping to contain this Horde infection to only Earth. Now all the Hosts are dead except for the Final Host.

Captain America says Loki is lying, but he says he is only repeating what Zgreb, the second Celestial told him. He didn't die since he was able to change into a Dark Celestial. Zgreb and the other Dark Celestials wiped out the originals and left them die on Earth so the insects can feed of them. Cap asks what's in it for Loki since everyone will be be fed to the bugs. Loki says the world is dying and what he does is an act of mercy. They have both been deep in the North Pole oceans procted by a bubble that Loki created for both of them, and now he pushes Cap's head out of the bubble so he can drown. Just then, Ghost Rider's chain wraps itself around Loki's neck.

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange and Iron Man try to keep things under control as the skies burn. Tony gets a call from and unknown person and he asks how this person got this number? The person says he got it from Howard Stark, and Tony says his father is dead. The person was Ghost Rider, able to do this due his care being able to talk to the dead. He is now driving Captain America to safety with Loki chained up in the trunk as the Dark Celestials follow them. They arrive in Russia and tell Tony to meet them there. Loki tells the Final Host to burn everything, starting with the Avengers.

Iron Man and Doctor Strange arrive to rescue the civilians but so do the giant bugs. Black Panther and Captain Marvel arrive not charged with the same energy as the bugs. Captain America explains that Celestials and the bugs are related. T'Challa says he can knock out all of the insects at once but it will take megatons to get past the Celestial armor. Thor and She-Hulk arrive and Shulkie tells the group they were 'smashing and kissing' (I see what you did thar Marvel). Thor and She-Hulk actually EAT the orb of Ymir's blood and gain a power up.

LMAO, oh Marvel. I'm sorry but if I told any of my friends without context that She-Hulk and Thor were busy smashing and kissing, they'd spit their drink and laugh uncontrollably. And I mean even my most clean minded 'would never say a dirty joke' friends.
As the heroes fight, Black Panther asks Doctor Strange to phase him inside of the giants so he can destroy the bugs from the inside. Strange volunteers to do this himself, but Tony says he has a plan that is now arriving- The Godkiller Mark II.

Ghost Rider drives some kids to safety on a tractor, turning it into some sort of hell tractor. He think now is a good time to bail since he deals with more street level crime. Captain America tells him this is his fight too and he's more than just a car. Ghost Rider decides to stay and help, but he's going to need to upgrade from the tractor. Ghost Rider runs inside one of the dead Celestials and actually turns it into his new hell ride.

Carol is impressed at the sight of the Hell Celestial and wants to be giant too. T'Challa tells her to help him hook themselves up to the fallen Horde insects to power up, and Captain America also wants in. Loki escaped the trunk of the car and is angry at Ghost Rider, but Doctor Strange shows up.

Ghost Rider is amazed by his own power. Iron Man asks him if he's ready to save the world. Ghost Rider was able to turn the Celestial's body into a giant version of himself. Thor and She-Hulk are now powered up and giant sized due to the Blood of Ymir. Stark is riding a giant sized Iron Man mech (Godkiller Mark II) and says it's time to show the Celestials what it's like to pick on someone their own size.

My Opinions

Aw man, this is what comics are all about. There wasn't much action in this issue, but we did get the tale of the Celestials and how the Horde tied into things. It's a weird theory some people may or may not like that the Celelstial and the Horde somehow caused humanity to eventually have super powers... but come on. With each passing day the Marvel Earth is packed with superheroes. It's almost impossible for someone living in New York to go their entire life and never see Spider-Man swinging in the distance, or the Avengers fighting some monster. It explains why Peter Parker and Bruce Banner, and heck, the Fantastic Four survived all their freak accidents and didn't flat out die from radiation poisoning, and the birth of so many mutants and Inhumans.

Aside from the story of what set all of this in motion, we also get to see the Avengers power up and prepare for the final battle. Ghost Rider, I assume, was dealing with his own problems and just crime around his general area, and while he felt left out, he's now fighting alongside the big leagues. I did like Tony Stark calling him Racer-X and Fast and Furious.

There isn't much to say, except Thor and She-Hulk were smashing and kissing. Yeah, yeah I know, Hulk's catchphrase is HULK SMASH, but these guys have got to know what the kids nowadays are calling 'smashing'. The ironic part is, she was the one to tell Thor not to tell anyone. Seriously though, more and more of Jennifer's personality is starting to leak through, as there were parts where she even called herself Jennifer. This ordeal might lead her to gain full control of her rage, and I suppose, eventually get her back to her regular self.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
