NWA Powerrr Season 8 Ep 11/ AEW Dark Ep 148/ NWA Powerrr Season 9 Ep 1

 By Mark Rodriguez

Seems AEW Dark only had one match this time, but at least we get to see the new non-alien Kris Statlander in action. Luckily NWA got some cool matches, including a tag match that has Kilynn King and Kamilla face off before they get to fight for the NWA Women's Title over at NWA Alwayz Ready. Also, Season 9 for NWA Powerrr begins.

NWA Powerrr Season 8 Episode 11

Match 1- Kenzie Paige & Kamille VS Kilynn King & Missa Kate

The match starts with Missa Kate and Kenzie Paige locking up. Miss grabs some hair and slams Kenzie onto the mat. After some showboating, Missa goes for a swing but Kenzie dodges it and pulls down her baggy pants (she had wrestling tights underneath so don't worry). While Miss goes to complain, Kenzie grabs her for a roll up in, but she kicks out.

Both women run towards each other and Kenzie knocks Missa down and goes for a jack knife cover pin. Missa kicks out. Kenzie goes for a crucifix pin but can't keep her down. She then grabs Missa's arm and slams it onto her shoulder. Kenzie tags in Kamille and the champ continues dishing out damage to Missa's arm. Kamille picks up Missa and takes a walk around the ring with her before finally dropping her with a body slam. Missa quickly rolls over to tag in Kilynn.

Kamille and Kilynn circle each other, the champ knowing this is her upcoming challenger. They get in each others' faces. Kilynn runs for the ropes and Missa tags herself in. Kilynn is confused and her tag partner assures her 'she got this'. Miss throws a punch that Kamille blocks, and she gets a harsh chop across the chest for her trouble. Kamille grabs her for several European Uppercuts until she falls. Kamille grabs her again and tosses her across the ring, making her land near Kenzie.

Kamille pressed her boot into Missa's midsection as she tags Kenzie in, and she starts stomping her down. Kenzie stands Missa up and hits her with a brutal chop. Kenzie grabs Missa's arm again and since the crowd wants to see her chop her 'one more time', she delivers. Kenzie asks the crowd if they want her to break her arm, and Missa quickly rakes her across the eyes to save herself.

Missa grabs Kenzie in a fireman's carry and drops her, her neck bouncing off the ropes violently. Miss goes for the pin but Kenzie kicks out and gets up against the ropes. Missa runs at her but Kenzie socks her with a back elbow, and also knocks Kilynn off the apron with another back elbow. Missa runs at her again and grabs her, shoving her face first into the middle turnbuckle. Missa runs at her and slams her knee to the side of Kenzie's face. Kilynn tags Missa and climbs into the ring.

Kilynn runs at Kenzie, hitting her with double-knees to the face. Kilynn yanks both her legs, lifting Kenzie up and letting her drop. She goes for the pin but Kenzie kicks out. Kilynn gets her in a headlock but Kenzie fights back up and elbows her off her. She stomps on her foot and throws some chops. Kenzie is pumped and she runs for the ropes but as she bounces back, Kilynn catches her.

Kylinn walks around the ring carrying Kenzie and then slams her down, going for the pin. Kenzie still kicks out. Kylinn slams Kenzie's face against the turnbuckle and tags in Missa, who proceeds to grab her and shake her all around. Missa slams Kenzie with a suplex and then grabs her before she has a chance to tag in Kamilla. She grabs her in a headlock and when Kenzie tries to fight her way out of it, Missa violently slams her to the mat.

After another failed pin attempt from Missa, she tags Kilynn in. Kilynn stomps on Kenzie and tags Missa back in who throws some stomps of her own. Kylinn is tagged back in and picks up Kenzie who starts punching her and tries to make her way back to Kamille. Kilynn punches her across the back and knocks her down with a snapmare, attempting another pin. Kenzie goes for a punch that Kilynn misses, and Kilynn goes for a kick that Kenzie ducks under. Unfortunately, Missa didn't dodge the second kick that clocked her in the side of the face.

Kenzie is out cold but rather than pin her, Kilynn walks over to taunt the champ, showing that she wants her title. Kilynn runs towards Kenzie, but Kenzie boots her in the face and back elbows Missa off the apron. She tries to run and slide between Kilynn's legs to make a tag but is caught. Kilynn picks her up and Kenzie reverses this into a pin. Kilynn kicks out and Kenzie knocks her out with a Code Breaker. Both women are down and both of them need to make a tag.

Both women manage to get up and tag their partners in and Kamille quickly grabs Missa's arm and whips her face-first onto the mat. She then shoves her toward the turnbuckle and starts throwing kicks. Kamille violently whips Missa onto another turnbuckle, and as she bounces back, the champ grabs her and runs her into another turnbuckle. From there she slams Missa down and goes for the pin. Missa somehow kicks out, much to the champ's annoyance. Kamille tries to grab her for a suplex but Missa is able to knee her in the midsection and then kick her across the face.

Kenzie and Kilynn tag themselves in and start trading blows. Kenzie grabs her in a diving cutter and goes for a pin, but Missa runs in to shove her off. Missa wastes too much time literally patting herself on the back and Kamille jumps at her and slams her down. Kamille then sees Kilynn and gabs her so that Kenzie can kick her. Kilynn moves out of the way and Kenzie superkicks the champ in the face instead. Kilynn takes this chance to slam Kenzie in the Excali-Buster and scores the win. Kylinn grabs the title which angers Kamille. Both women get into each other's faces as Kamill will defend her title against Kilynn King at Alwayz Ready.

AEW Dark Episode 148

Match 2- Nyla Rose, Diamante & Emi Sakura vs Anna Jay, Ruby Soho & Kris Statlander

The match starts with Ruby Soho and Diamante locking up. Diamante throws some fists, backing Ruby up against the ropes where she's at the mercy of her kicks. She shoves Ruby towards the other side of the ring, but The Runaway avoids Diamante's charge. Ruby manages to sock Diamante with two punches and then drops her with a headbutt. Diamante tags in Emi Sakura and Ruby goes over to tag in Kris Statlander.

Emi and Kris exchange chops until Kris out-chops her. Emi flings her against the ropes but Kris bounces back and knocks her down with a shoulder tackle. Kris then bodyslams her and hits her with a body splash, going for a pin. Emi kicks out and Kris tags in Anna Jay. Anna Jay runs into Emi with a snapmare and Kris follows with a running elbow. Anna Jay goes for the pin but Emi kicks out. The female member of the Dark Order whips Emi into the ropes and hits her with a running back kick.

Emi heads over to Anna Jay but gets kicked back. Anna Jay runs at her but Emi grabs her and rakes her fingers across her back. Emi then picks her up and slams her with a double underhook backbreaker. Emi does a pose and tags in Nyla Rose who proceeds to elbow drop Ann Jay. Nyla grabs Anna Jay in an armbar while pulling her face back.

Nyla lets her go and stands her up, getting ready for another move. Anna Jay fights her way out of her grasp and runs for the ropes. Nyla catches her on the way back, picks her up and slams her into a backbreaker. Nyla stands on Ann Jay for a bit and then tags Diamante in. Diamante runs and does a slide kick that knocks Anna Jay off the apron and onto the floor.

The ref tries to keep Ruby and Kris out while Nyla and Emi grab Anna Jay and keep punching her. Nyla then rolls Anna Jay back into the ring. Diamante grabs Anna Jay in a hold and then starts punching at her taped up shoulder. The ref breaks it up and Diamante argues with him.

Diamante tags Emi Sakura in. However, Emi decides now is a good time to do her anime laugh and Anna Jay grabs her and slams her face-first into the mat. As Anna Jay crawls over for a tag, Diamante grabs Kris' legs and pulls her off the apron. Ruby kicks Diamante in the face to keep her back. The ref was busy with this so he didn't see that Anna Jay tagged Ruby into the ring. The ref grabs Ruby and holds her back. As Ruby is forced to go back to the apron, Emi tags Nyla Rose in.

Nyla run and kicks Anna Jay in the face. She then grabs her by the throat and shoves her up against the turnbuckle. Anna Jay is helpless as the Native Beast slams into her with a running elbow. Nyla gets read to do a cannonball but Anna Jay manages to get out of the way and finally tag in Ruby where the ref can see it. Ruby hits Nyla with several punches, kicks and a knee to the face. She goes to the ropes where Kris can tag herself in. Kris takes to the ropes and knocks Nyla down with a body splash turned into a pin. The Native Beast still kicks out.

Kris tries to pick Nyla up, but her opponent reverses it into a choke slam. Nyla goes for the pin but Kris kicks out. Nyla tags Emi in and Emi also tags in Diamante. Nyla holds onto Kris so Emi can knock her down with a running elbow. Diamante then grabs Kris in a Canadian Destroyer. Nyla and Emi try to take care of Kris' partners, but Ruby manages to break up Diamante's pin attempt.

Emi tries to throw Ruby out of the ring but she gets tossed out instead. Nyla smacks Ruby across the face and knocks her out. Anna Jay hits Nyla with a running elbow to the face, making her trip over the ropes and fall out of the ring. Diamante runs in and knocks Anna Jay down. Diamante tries to grab Kris and Kris tries to get her into a back slide pin but can't keep her down. Diamante hits Kris with an uppercut and grabs her for a throw. Kris picks her up instead and slams her down with a pile driver. She pins Diamante and wins the match.

NWA Powerrr Season 9 Episode 1

Match 3- Taya Valkyrie VS Taryn Terrell

Taryn starts the match by complaining about Taya's bigger and fancier black dress she brought to the ring during her entrance. She grabs it and tosses it out of the ring. Taya responds by kicking her in the back of the leg. With Taryn down, Taya starts wailing away at her. Taryn finally ditches her loud dress and Taya kicks her down. Taya whips her into the ringpost and starts kicking away at her.

Taya sets her up against the ropes and hits her with a brutal chop. The crowd wants another and unfortunately for Taryn, Taya delivers. Taya whips Taryn to the ropes on the other side of the ring and hits her with a running elbow. With Taryn up against the turnbuckle, Taya hits her with a clothesline and then a running hip attack to the face. Taya runs at her with double knees to the face. Taya goes for the pin and somehow Taryn kicks out.

Taryn bounces off the ropes and tries to grab Taya with a flying leg-scissors, but she's caught. Taya sets her onto the ropes and kicks her across the back. She then bounces off the other side of the ring and slides under Taryn, using the ropes to slam her into a German Suplex. Taya grabs her opponent's head and holds her off the apron so she can hit her with several knees. Taryn drops to the floor.

Taryn grabs Taya and tries to whip her into the apron but Taya stops herself. Taryn tries to push her to no avail. Taya stares her down and Taryn runs away, getting chased around the ring by the Wera Loca.

Taryn gets back into the ring but as Taya climbs in after her, she stomps her down. With Taya finally down, Taryn hits her with an elbow drop. She goes for the pin but Taya kicks out. Taryn starts hitting her and then whips her towards the ropes. She then presses her boot up against Taya's neck. With Taya down, Taryn grabs her and slams her face first into the mat. Taryn grabs her Taya into the Camel Clutch. Before she can make her humble, Taya manages to get to her feet and move backward, hitting Taryn up against the turnbuckle.

Taya runs towards Taryn but crashed into the ringpost as her opponent gets out of the way. Taryn goes over to her but Taya hits her with a boot to the face. Taya moves in with a roll up pin but Taryn kicks out. Both women run at each other and slam each other down with a double hairbomb. With both athletes down, the ref starts to count. Both of them get up and start trading shots, with Taryn taking the worst of it. Taya hits her with some kicks and then slams her onto the mat. Taya grabs her into a leglock, applying pressure to her opponent's knees and grabs her arms. Taya then slams Taryn's face into the mat with The Stomp and goes for the pin. Taryn still kicks out.

Taya grabs Taryn in a waist lock and she fights her way out of it with back elbows. Taryn manages to get the Wera Loca down with a Cutter and goes for the pin. Taya still kicks out. Taryn runs at her with the flying crossbody but Taya catches her. Before she can do anything, Taryn gets out of her grasp and tries to hit her. Taya grabs her in a double chickenwing facebuster, The Road to Valhalla, and pins her for the win.

My Thoughts-

That first match was the main event for that particular episode of NWA Powerrr and it had some good moments. I think most of them go to Missa Kate with some of her brutal looking slams. Just the way she dropped Kenzie onto the ropes, making her bounce off her neck. Ouch! I thought she was going to be a joke after Kenzie yanks her pants down, but she can be rough and brutal when she needs to be. Kylinn had some good moves as expect though I also liked the way Kilynn dropped like a rock after taking that code breaker from Kenzie.

The champ herself was barely in the match and while she got into the face of her challenger, they both barely crossed paths in actual in-ring action. They kept announcing this to be a preview of their upcoming match, but it was more of a teaser. The way they kept Kamille out of things, I was expecting her to clean house and score the win whenever she would finally get tagged in. I was not expecting her to get accidentally superkicked by Kenzie and then have Kilynn take out Kenzie with her finisher to get the win. Great and fun match with a some cool moves.

The triple tag match for AEW Dark was fun. As I said before, I really want some of these matches on Dynamite or Rampage, we need Nyla, Emi and Diamante on TV. It was a cool match and things got fast paced near the end with everybody taking shots at everybody. We didn't see too much of Emi's antics this time around other than raking Anna Jay across the back. I did like seeing Kris Statlander thrown into the mix, I don't remember too many instances where she went up against Emi or Diamante. Liked seeing the chopping contest between her and Emi Sakura. A fun match all around.

The match between Taya and Taryn was pretty good. Taryn is always full of her little antics, but she will take advantage whenever you drop your guard around her. Her Camel Clutch means business. From what the show describes, Taya Valkyrie made her NWA debut at Alwayz Ready (Kamille retained against Kilynn King btw) where she faced Natalia Markova and lost due to interference from Taryn Terrell, so this was good payback. Fun match, and man, that Road to Valhalla is a hell of a finisher. Soon afterwards, Natalia had an interview where she declares she will be setting her sights upon Kylinn King on her path to get to Kamille.

Pretty good matches all around and I am enjoying the NWA female roster. I do notice though, since NWA is a smaller promotion with limited camera angles, the action is way closer and more in-your-face than AEW. Switching back and forth between the two made me really see the difference. The close up angles make for better images to showcase some of the highlights. As for AEW, I'm curious who else will come on board now that we got people like Max the Impaler and Miyu Yamashita showing up.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
