Marvel's Civil War II # 5

 By Mark Rodriguez

Thanks to a new Inhuman named Ulysses that has visions of the future, Carol, Captain Marvel decided to use him to stop disasters before they start. This led to a battle against Thanos that resulted in the death of War Machine and She Hulk being put in a coma. Another vision predicted that the Hulk would go crazy and kill everyone, and Hawkeye shot a Gamma-treated arrow to kill Bruce Banner before he would turn. The courts acquitted Hawkeye, labeling him a hero which enrages She Hulk. Carol arrests a woman she suspects is working for HYDRA due to Ulysses' visions, but she is rescued by Nightcrawler on behalf of Tony. Carol and Tony's big groups of superheroes finally face off as an all-out war is about to break out.

The issue opens with a helicopter flying tourists around, showing them the Statue of Liberty. The tourists don't care and want to see superheroes. Just then Drax is sent flying past the chopper and they are forced to land as the superhero beatdown explodes below.

In New Attilan, Medusa tells Karnak and Ulysses that the humans are at war with each other, and that Captain Marvel called for their help. Ulysses asks what they are fighting about. Karnak tells him to stay behind since his powers won't be needed.

Carol and Tony blast each other, each one telling the other to stand down. Carol tells him she can absorb his energy blasts, which he knows and uses against her. The attack electrifies Carol and sends her falling. Doctor Strange uses his magic to tie up the X-Men, but Storm breaks free and Ice Man freezes him. Luke Cage distracts Blue Marvel long enough for Nova to blast him.

The news starts covering the superhero battle and determine it might be because of the Hulk verdict. They also state the Inhumans are on their way. As Matt Murdock hears the news, Hawkeye shows up at his doorstep.

As the battle continues, Sam Wilson Cap faces Magik, and she teleports him to Hollywood. Rocket blasts her and he is then kicked by Miles Morales. Agent Venom attacks Miles, realizing that it's not the same Spider-Man he knows. Venom asks how he dares to use that uniform to fight. Miles tases him with his Venom Blast, taking him down.

Star Lord faces off against Steve Rogers, who asks him why he's even here. Tony hacks into his helmet to talk to him and ask him what's he doing. Quill says he's here to help Carol, and based on how everyone is ganging up on her, he believes her side. Tony tries to explain how Ulysses' visions might not be right. Just then something blows up the Guardian's spaceship.

Ulyesses watches this and wonders what is happening as energy vines starts coming off him. The Inhumans arrive to help Carol out. Karnak and Black Panther hold Iron Man down, and Carol flies in to punch the hell out him. Tony tells her to hold on since he's detecting some strange readings. Carol punches him anyway.

Suddenly, Tony, Carol and the rest are grabbed by the energy vines coming from Ulysses. Suddenly everyone sees a horrible vision of Mile Morales killing Steve Rogers!

Everyone is surprised and Miles breaks down crying. Miss Marvel runs over to console him, telling him that won't happen, but Miles asks how she could be sure. Carol apologizes and tells Miles that he's under arrest.

My opinions-

Man, things are really heating up. The beginning was a tad funny. I mean if I was in the MCU and I lived anywhere but New York, I'd kinda like to see Spider-Man swinging around whenever I do go visit the Big Apple. Too bad most of the time the heroes are busy fighting each other.

The fighting was cool, the Guardians got a scene or two, but I did like Star Lord talking with Tony and Steve. Seeing Agent Venom go crazy on  Miles was interesting. Kinda wonder how he would have acted if it was Peter Parker. I mean, Agent Venom is supposed to be a good guy now... but the symbiote has been known lose control at times, even if i'ts supposed to be tamer now.

The visions really got random with Miles killing Steve Rogers. The Hulk is a ticking time bomb as is, so that made more sense, but this? It would be incredibly clever to make this be about Miles finding out that the Cap was a HYDRA agent and being forced to end him, but I don't know if this story was going on around this time. All of Ulysses' visions seemed to be happening relatively right away and not predicting something that will happen months later. And that innocent woman Carol arrested last issue was suspected of being a HYDRA agent as well... what if she really was a HYDRA agent?

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
