AEW Dark Elevation Episode 67 Women's Matches

 By Mark Rodriguez

This week we got 3 matches, one of them bringing in Tootie Lynn who we've seen in NWA before. We also got a big match between Max the Impaler and Nyla Rose!!

Match 1- Max The Impaler vs Nyla Rose

Both women start locking up but neither could overpower the other. Max charged towards Nyla and gets tripped up by a drop toe-hold. Nyla bounces off the ropes and runs towards Max hitting her face with a dropkick. As Nyla sees the crowd, Max gets up unaffected, making the Native Beast jump. Max runs into Nyla, sending her up against the ropes with a body block. She runs at her and hits her with a second one. Max tries to pull Nyla but she's grabbing onto the ropes. Max still socks her in the face.

Nyla manages to grab Max in a neckbreaker and gets set to finish her with the Beast Bomb. Max is able to lift Nyla and back drop her. As Nyla gets up, Max runs and spears her down. Max growls and charges towards Nyla for another spear, but she moves out of the way, letting her collide with the ringpost. Nyla kicks her across the back and then uses the ropes to help pick her up. The Native Beast slams Max the Impaler down with the Beast Bomb and gets the 3-count.

Match 2- Tootie Lynn & Miranda Gordy vs Serena Deeb & Mercedes Martinez

The match starts with Serena and Miranda locking up. Serena knocks her down with a shoulder tackle and then gets her in a headlock takedown. The Professor of Pro Wrestling grabs Miranda's leg and drops on it. Serena knocks her down with a running elbow and poses to the crowd. Mercedes asks to be tagged in and after a bit of hesitation, Deeb brings her into the match. Likewise, Miranda tags Tootie into the match.

Tootie tries to lock up with Mercedes, but she gets legsweeped and trapped in a front facelock. The current Ring of Honor Women's World Champion lifts Tootie up in a vertical suplex, leaving her up there for a good while before finally slamming her onto the mat. Mercedes goes for the pin but Tootie kicks out. Mercedes grabs Tootie in a headlock and walks over to tag Serena in. Serena plants Tootie into the ring with a swinging neckbreaker.

Serena Deeb grabs Tootie's leg and elbow drops it. She then grabs her and gets her into a leglock hold. Miranda comes in to help but Serena kicks her in the midsection. With her leg still locking down Tootie, Serena suplexes Miranda, bringing the pain to both women. Serena casually walks over to Mercedes and dodges her tag. Mercedes taps her, tagging herself in and they have a minor face off before she turned back to her opponents.

Miranda runs at Mercedes, who catches her and slams her with a spine buster. Tootie runs at Mercedes and is also caught, as the RoH champ choke slams her right on top of Miranda. Mercedes whips Tootie into the corner and hits her with a running elbow strike. She then picks her up and drops her onto the ropes, letting her bounce off them and fall to the mat.

Mercedes knocks Tootie down with a running elbow to the back of the head. She then grabs her into position for the Brass City Sleeper as Deeb runs in to take out Miranda. Serena gets Miranda in the Serenity Lock as Mercedes applies the Brass City Sleeper on Tootie and both of their opponents tap out. Mercedes and Deeb win the match and give themselves a little stare-down as Mercedes raises the Ring of Honor Women's World Championship.

Match 3- Ruby Soho VS Heidi Howitzer

Both women lock up and break away, neither gaining ground on the other. Heidi raises her hand for a test of strength and Ruby obliges. As she grabs her hand, Heidi knocks Ruby down with a headbutt. Still holding onto her arm, Heidi pulls her up and Ruby attempts the No Future kick. Heidi blocks it and is now holding her leg. Heidi goes for a leg drop but Ruby gets out of the way and kicks her in the face.

Ruby throws a few kicks and then goes for a back heel trip but Heidi blocks the attempt and shoves her towards the ropes. As Ruby bounces back, Heidi knocks her down with a clothesline. Heidi goes for the pin attempt but Ruby kicks out. Heidi grabs her and swings her face into the turnbuckle a few times, and then makes her drop with double chops to the chest.

Heidi runs at Ruby and she stops her with a shoulder tackle. Ruby jumps onto the ropes and grabs Heidi with her legs, pulling face into the turnbuckle. Ruby runs into Heidi and hits her with multiple shoulders up against the ropes. The ref tells her to stop but Ruby shoves him back and starts throwing hands. The ref breaks it up again and Ruby once again shoves him back and starts throwing kicks at Heidi.

Ruby throws some more hands and hits Heidi with a headbutt that ended up rocking herself. She grabs her and tries to go for a suplex but is unable to make her opponent budge. Heidi shoves her off her and socks her in the face, following up with a kick to the midsection. She tries to grab Ruby but The Runaway reverses it and gets her with a rear neckbreaker. Ruby grabs her and slams her face-first into the mat with Destination Unknown. Ruby Soho wins the match.

My Thoughts-

Good trio of matches. While I would have liked more bodyslams and just seeing Nyla and Max come to blows, it was a decent, though short match. People always have to out-think or out-maneuver Nyla it's different to see someone actually take the fight directly to her like Max the Impaler would. Too bad we never got to see Aja Kong VS Nyla Rose, or hell, bring in Jessica Havok for a match.

I liked the uneasy alliance between Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez. They kept giving each other the staredown and would almost be showing each other up as they took down their opponents. I hope this goes somewhere cause I would really love to see Deeb VS Martinez for the Ring of Honor World Title at some upcoming PPV. I liked the spot where Deeb got both women with the suplex/leglock combo. I guess this is going to become one of her spots, at least in tag matches.

The last match was pretty alright, but damn, did Ruby just lose control all over Howitzer, even shoving the ref back a couple of times. That was pretty much what stood out to me in that match.

Pretty good matches. Especially loved the tag match and hope they do something with Mercedes and Serena down the road. This is not the first time feud-related things has happened on Dark Elevation. Ironically, Mercedes herself not too long ago got into Thunder Rosa's face during a match in Dark Elevation to continue their feud at the time when she was Britt Baker's enforcer, so here's hoping.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
