Marvel's Civil War II # 4

 By Mark Rodriguez

Thanks to an Inhuman named Ulysses, the Marvel Super Heroes can predict disasters and stop them before they start. Captain Marvel wants to use his abilities to do exactly that, but Tony Stark is worried about attacking people before they do anything. One prediction foretold of the appearance of Thanos on Earth, and in that battle, She Hulk is mortally injured and War Machine dies. Ulysses has another vision of the Hulk flipping out and killing everyone, so Carol goes to see him. Bruce Banner is killed by a special Gamma Arrow entrusted by him to Hawkeye, and he is now arrested and in trial. This only creates more tension between Tony and Carol. Let's see what happens.

The issue opens with Carol coming to visit She-Hulk who had just got out of her coma. She remembers the battle with Thanos that put her in that condition. Carol tells her that the Hulk is gone thanks to Hawkeye and she woke up just in time for the trial verdict to go down. Jennifer demands to know how the verdict went and Carol remains silent.

Outside the news announces that Hawkeye walks and is acquitted of the murder of the Hulk. Miles sees the newscast and speaks to someone (Pete?) and is surprised that 87% of the country supports Hawkeye and are glad to see the Hulk gone. Miles wonders how the rest of the Avengers will act, especially Tony.

I wonder why they showed an image of Hawkeye's retro costume?

Tony discusses how he wanted to know if Ulysses really can see the future or if he's somehow affecting his visions. He managed to scan his brain and download a copy of it when he kidnapped him earlier. He says what he discovered is a lot worse than he thought.

Tony explains that Ulysses' brain, or rather his entire body soaks in all the energies and data of the world around him and spouts it back out in the form of visions. However, this means the visions are of possible futures and not something that will happen. Tony says he was right about Thanos and the Hulk, but what exactly would have happened if the heroes didn't intervene? He's afraid of exactly how serious Carol is taking these visions. As Tony talks, we see elsewhere that Carol and the other heroes arrested a woman based on Ulysses' visions, but when they retrieve a briefcase off the woman, it's revealed to be empty.

Tony says the kid's powers are growing and more people can share his visions. He wonders the bigger his powers get, will they continue to be more accurate or not? He tells who he's talking to that if they tell him to stop he will. We see he was talking to Steve Rogers, as other heroes, including Carol, hear him out. Tony says after all that happened before, he doesn't want to start another Civil War against the Cap or Medusa or anyone else.

Carol wants Beast to study Tony's work so she can trust it. Beast says he already has and it's not wrong. Tony asks Carol what she will do, knowing all that she knows now. Carol says if someone told her someone has a gun and plans to shoot people, should she go check it out, or wait until after he starts shooting people. Tony says what if the visions were only 10% right? Carol says if there was a 10% chance that Thanos was going to get his hands on a Cosmic Cube, then they should act on it, and Rhodey would have agreed. Carol says she's done and tells Tony to back off. She then flies off, smashing through the roof.

Tony asks Steve if he's crazy and if it's not Carol's call to make. Beast asks Tony if he thinks it's his call. Tony says he's going to have to go public with this after what happened to Banner. Medusa coldly says Tony 'has' to, giving Black Bolt a look.

Carol goes to see Black Panther and Maria Hill to see if they discovered anything about the woman arrested earlier. They say she's just a regular banker and her family is worried about her. Her father is a Chicago police officer and already went to press about this. They ask Carol what was the Inhuman's vision regarding the woman.

Carol questions her on being a deep cover HYDRA agent set to destroy the country's financial institutions. The woman says she's innocent and was never arrested before. Carol asks why she was carrying an empty briefcase. She says it was an old one and she was going to change it for a new one. Before she is questioned further, she vanishes in brimstone smoke. Carol deduces it was Nightcrawler and Tony put him up to this. Maria Hill puts the place on lockdown and Black Panther confirms that Tony is on their rooftop. Carol angrily steps out to settle this.

Carol sees Iron Man with a huge team of heroes including Captain America, female Thor and some of the classic X-Men. Carol has her own gang and says Tony is under arrest. Tony says the public knows what she's been up to and she should stand down since they have her seriously outgunned. Carol says she has friends all over the place, as the Guardians of the Galaxy show up to help.

My thoughts-

I'm not sure what the general consensus is regarding this series, but I'm loving it. The simple concept on if someone is able to be true visions or if they're subconsciously altering the visions is a good one. I honestly don't know what Tony even plans to do with Ulysses when all is said and done? Lock him up?

What else can I say..? The way the outside world treats Hulk's death makes sense. He has helped save the world but usually not in eyes of the general public. They just see the destruction and death he inadvertently causes in his wake, and yes, he is definitely one of the most dangerous Marvel Super Heroes for you to ever run into in a dark alley.. and he's supposed to be one of the good guys. I mean there was a time where the Illuminati (in this case Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Panther, Dr. Strange and Black Bolt since Xavier was absent and Namor opposed the idea) decided to ship Hulk into space because he was considered too dangerous to stay on Earth. So in many cases, even the good ways wish Hulk was gone sometimes.

However, this leaves an angry She Hulk that is no doubt out for Hawkeye's head whenever she's fully recovered. Run Clint, run.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
