AEW Dark Episode 149 (Women's Matches)

 By Mark Rodriguez

This week's Dark offers 3 women's matches and also the team up of Mercedes Martinez and Serena Deeb. They actually cut a promo this time as well. How will they get along this time?

Match 1- Ava Everett vs Kris Statlander

The match starts with Ava running into Kris, who shoulder bumps her down to the mat. As Ava gets back up, Kris run and knocks her back down. Kris picks her up and body slams her and follows up with a body splash. Kris goes for the pin but Ava kicks out. Kris picks her up for a delayed vertical suplex and then sends her crashing down.

Kris runs towards Ava but crashes into the turnbuckle since her opponent got out of the way. Ava takes this chance to land some hits on her. With Kris dazed, Ava tries to pick her up but she gets shoved into the ropes by her taller opponent. Kris runs towards Ava and hits her with an uppercut, then she bounces off the ropes and hits her with a running knee strike.

Kris picks Ava up but she is able to gets out of her grasp. Ava throws a kick but Kris catches her foot and picks her up for a reverse body slam. Kris picks her up, spins around and slams her down, pinning her and getting the win. It seems that Kris has set her sights on current TBS champion Jade.

Match 2- Devlyn Macabre vs Diamante

Both women lock up and Diamante shoves Devlyn into the ropes. As the ref breaks it up, Diamante lands a sucker punch on her. Diamante then lays in the elbow strikes and an uppercut. Diamante bounces off the ropes and knocks her down. As she goes for the ropes again, this time Devlyn trips her and gets her in a headlock. Diamante gets to her feet and fights to regain control. She stomps on Devlyn's foot, picks her up and falls back, slamming her on the mat.

With Devlyn up against the ropes, Diamante stomps on her and shoves her foot against her neck until the ref pulls her off. Diamante runs in and does a dropkick aimed at Devlyn's midsection. Diamante goes for the pin but her opponent kicks out. She then starts to throw punches on her until the ref breaks it up.

Both women start trading punches until Diamante kicks her on the side. As Diamante charges towards her, Devlyn kicks her and makes her fall. She then kicks her on the side of the head. She goes for the pin but Diamante kicks out. As Diamante gets up against the ropes, Devlyn hits her with a running elbow and starts hitting her with chops. Devlyn gets Diamante up against another corner of the ring but this time Diamante raises her boot and kicks her away. Diamante grabs Devlyn for 2 rolling suplexes in a row. Devlyn slips from her grasp before she can get a third, but as she bounces off the ropes, Diamante grabs her and suplexes her anyway. Diamante grabs her with a crossface and makes her tap out, winning the match.

Match 3- Yaide & Anna Diaz vs Serena Deeb & Mercedez Martinez

Both women cut a promo before this match. They pretty much respect each other as wrestlers and all their accomplished in their careers, but they warn each other not to get in each other's way and not to cross each other.

The match starts with Serena and Anna, but surprisingly the first thing Serena does is run out and sock Yaide off the apron. Anna runs at her and tries to kick her into the turnbuckle, but Deeb gets out of the way and over the ropes. Anna tries to hit her with her shoulder through the ropes and Deeb grabs her head. She then gets up and drops Anna with a neckbreaker against the ropes.

Serena gets Anna's legs locked up and as Yaide comes to help her, Serena kicks her in the midsection. She then grabs and suplexes Yaide while her leg is still wrenched between Anna's, bringing the pain to both members of the tag team. Mercedes asks if she can get in now and Deeb tags her in. Mercedes runs over and knocks Anna down with a high knee strike. Yaide runs in and Mercedes grabs her and throws her with a release suplex.

Mercedes picks up Anna and drops her on the ropes, letting her bounce off and fall on the mat. Mercedes then grabs Anna in the Brass City Sleeper and Yaide runs in to hit her. Mercedes ducks and Yaide runs into Deeb, who knocks her back. As Mercedes applies the Brass City Sleeper on Anna, Deeb gets Yaide in the Serenity Lock. Anna and Yaide tap out and Mercedes and Deeb win the match. Both of them still glare each other and Mercedes raises her RoH title, reminding Deeb it's someone she doesn't have.

My Thoughts-

We got some fun simple matches tonight, nothing too special, but it is fun for the live crowd to see Kris and Diamante perform. Kris got to take down her opponent with little trouble while Devlyn put up more of a fight against Diamante. I still want Diamante on TV.

The fun starts whenever Mercedes and Serena get to partner up, as they try to either show each other up or just act overall uneasy around each other. It also looks like Serena is now going to be doing this 'leglock/suplex' spot every match she's in. They do get to cut a promo on their current attitudes towards each other. I hope they keep going with this until Deeb eventually challenges for the RoH Women's Title.

While this is the last Dark and Dark Elevation episodes we'll see before AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, we won't get to see the ones that went for this week's Dynamite and Rampage until next week. Toni Storm has a big match to challenge Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women's Title. We'll see how that plays out.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
