AEW Dark 2/9/201 (Womens Matches)

 By Mark Rodriguez

It seems we have 3 women's matches in this episode. However we do have the AEW Women's Tournament coming up with features a lot of the same women we've been seeing here, so I'll be covering those matches. It seems they're separated between a Japan bracket and an American bracket and some of us feel a bit odd that the Japan bracket will be on Youtube while the American bracket will be on Dynamite, especially since we got a couple of Japanese big names that should be seen on TV. We'll see how that works out.

First Match- Miranda Alize VS Nyla Rose (With Vickie Guerrero)

Miranda ran in with a kick and then tried to get Nyla with an arm drag, but Nyla picked her up and slammed her down. Nyla effortlessly knocks Miranda down with a clothesline and then starts to stomp on her and clobber her. Nyla hits her with a splash but purposely gets off her to prevent a pin. She puts Miranda on the ropes and places her knee on her face. As the ref pulls Nyla back, Vickie lands a quick slap across Miranda's face.

Miranda manages to run and duck under Nyla's kick attempt and hits her with a dropkick to get on her knees. Nyla catches her again and just flings her to the mat. Nyla elbows Miranda in the face and then clotheslines her. She picks her up and hits her with the Beast Bomb and wins the match.

Match 2- Tay Conti vs. ‘The Pink Dream’ Alex Gracia

Both women grapple and Tay pulls Alex towards her to flip her over and then goes for a pin. Tay puts Alex in a front headlock and then flips her forward in a hip toss. Still holding onto her arm, Tay lands 2 kicks on Alex's chest but misses the third one as the Pink Dream goes for a roll up pin. Tay gets Alex in a knee-bar but as she struggles to escape it, both women roll towards the edge of the mat and fall out of the ring.

Alex manages to clock Tay in the face as both women get back into the ring, though she nursing her hurt knee. Alex is able to still run and hit Tay with the 619 while she was hanging off the ropes. Alex goes a pin but Tay kicks out, so she gets in a Full Nelson lock. Tay slams her down with a brutal looking DDT. Still not out, Alex tries to kick Tay but she catches her leg and knees her in the face. Tay comes in with a series of strikes, then knocks down Alex twice with clotheslines and throttles her with a hook kick to the side of the face.

Tay flings the Pink Dream against the turnbuckles and runs at her with a knee to the face, and then hits her with another brutal kick to the face. Tay grabs her in a painful looking submission hold and Alex quickly taps out. Tay Conto wins another match on AEW Dark.

Match 3- Red Velvet (With Big Swole) VS Diamante (With Ivelisse)

Diamante gets in Red's face and pushes her back. Both women grapple and try to overpower each other until Diamante finally picks up and slams Red down. Red knocks Diamante down with a dropkick. With Diamante up against the ring post, Red delivers several body shots and then some kicks. Diamante gets up and shoves her back. Red falls back but rolls back up and knocks her down again with a dropkick.

Red Velvet runs at Diamante and uses a huracarana to drop her near the ropes. She runs over to follow up, but Diamante gets out of the way and Red gets caught in the ropes. Ivelisse comes in to talk trash and Diamante grabs Velvet in a German Suplex. Diamante gets Red against the ring post and hits her with a chop. Diamante flings her to the other side of the ring and runs at her with a running dropkick. She goes for a pin but Velvet kicks out.

Diamante gets Velvet up against the ring post again and continues her attack. After kicking the hell out of her, Diamante goes for another running dropkick but misses this time as Red rolls out of the way. Velvet manages to knock down Diamante with some clotheslines, then does her pot-stirring gesture and does a standing 450 splash on her opponent for the pin. Diamante kicks out.

Diamante dodges a kick from Velvet and hits her back. She grabs Velvet and slams her with a standing sliced bread. Velvet manages to grab and slam Diamante with a bulldog and goes for the pin. Diamante still kicks out which frustrates Velvet. Diamante knocks Velvet down with a back elbow and goes for a pin, but she still kicks out. Ivelisse watches on as both women try to get back up.

Diamante mocks the pot-stirring motion and attempts to go for the Code Red, but Velvet avoids it and kicks her knee out and then kicks her in the face. Velvet does a running dropkick to the side of Diamante's face and goes for the pin. Red Velvet pins her and get the win!

My Opinions-

Well, what can I say about the first two matches? Nyla pretty much destroyed  poor Miranda as we expected, and Tay Conti is always a lot of fun to watch. That DDT of hers was particularly nasty and should be one of her finishers. I'm surprised this time she was mostly on her own, Anna Jay still escorted her to the ring but we didn't we the entire Dark Order like we've been seeing.

The match between Diamante and Red Velvet... now this is what I'm talking about. After building up both of these women, we finally have a good match between two of the top stars of AEW Dark. Even then I was expecting Diamante to win, though to have a difficult time due how good Red Velvet is, but I was surprised that Red Velvet won! It was a good match and to be honest I wouldn't find a tag match between Ivelisse and Diamante vs Red Velvet and Big Swole. That would be epic.

On other news, Cody and Red Velvet will be having a tag match against Shaquille O'Neal and Jade. It'll be awesome to see Shaq actually in the ring and like commentary says, they have not seen Jade in action yet so Red Velvet doesn't really know what to expect. I remember a few years back either in a Royal Rumble or Battle Royale we had Shaq involved and even though he had an epic face off against Big Show, nothing really came of it, like no lead in to an actual match or anything like that. Now let's see Shaq face off against Cody.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
