Uncharted Comics Series #1

By Mark Rodriguez (Originally written by Paige)

Uncharted goes from Playstation game series to a comic book series. We follow Nathan Drake on another adventure. The series is only six comics long. So let's begin Nathan's treasure hunting adventure.

The comic starts and Nathan Drake is already in a predicament. He's standing on a plane wreck in a middle of lava. "How is it that I always end up..in jams like this." Now Nathan is in a middle of a gun fight, a few days earlier. Flynn jokes that Nathan still likes these kind of situations. They try to think of a plan to escape the gunfire, figuring out how many guys there are and suddenly the gunfire stops. Nathan takes a look to see what's going on and is face to face with a large man with a flamethrower. The man torches the area where the friends were hiding. The two escape the fire and Nathan comes up with a plan to get rid of the men. He shoots the gas tank of a truck and it explodes giving Nathan and Flynn the chance to run away.

The guys return to their "safe house" And split up "the spoils".  The only thing Nathan takes is a book, Flynn questions Nathan's choice of  goods. Nathan explains that the trinkets that they found were not important and that's why he is giving the other stuff to Flynn. But Flynn questions his motives, asking if it's a game. Nathan denies it. Flynn places his part of the deal in his bag, getting ready to leave. Victor "Sully" Sullivan appears at the doorway asking Flynn if he's already leaving. He simply tells Sully to take care and not to break a hip. As he leaves, Sully asks Nathan if he got it and Nathan reveals the notebook. Sully suggests hitting the bar before delivering the notebook to the Ludlows, the people who asked for the notebook. Nathan tells Sully that he wants to check out the book to decipher what's inside.

The time slips by as Nathan deciphers the notebook. Nathan stays at the bar, while Sully entertains himself by telling stories and playing poker. Eventually it's early the next morning, Sully is asleep beside Nate. Finally, Nate deciphers the notebook. Nate explains that the notebook was written by Richard Evelyn Byrd. He was the first to fly to the North Pole. Sully wonders what the man was trying to hide. It was the Russians, Nate states. This is where Sully is lost. Nathan continues to explain that the notebook is about the "Amber Room".

The room was a big mystery in World War II when the Nazis stole it. There were rumors of the whereabouts of the room. Eventually the Russians got their prized possession back and entrusted Byrd to hide it. The Russians were going to retrieve it after the war, but that never happened. The location is still a mystery. Sully wonders why the Russians trusted Byrd. Nate tells his friend that Byrd had an eccentric side. He continues to explain that Byrd had a theory about "Hollow Earth". Byrd talked about a city called Agartha, an underground city with a second sun. Agartha had machines that flew underground and there were "smoking gods", the guardians of the city. Nathan continues to explain that the flight was logged, but there are no coordinates. No one believed him , and even Nathan doubts, but...he thinks about where would they even hide something like the Amber Room at the North Pole. Sully questions if he really takes the "Hollow Earth" theory seriously. Nate jokes about them seeing even stranger things. Sully thinks about the reward they would receive if they looked for it and figured that's what the Ludlows are after too.  Before they head out to look for the Amber room, the two decide to measure up the competition.

Nate and Sully go to the exchange which is at a dock. The group they're exchanging the notebook with arrive on a yacht. The two were approached by a man, he's Michael Ludlow and his sister, Rose Doughty, follows after him. The girl approaches Nathan asking if it's true about Nate being the descendant of the famous explorer, Sir Francis Drake. Ludlow compliments about the legacy Nate has to live up to. Rose asks if the tip led to the plane. Which Nate reveals the journal. Ludlow examines the journal and Rose asks why there is sand among the pages. Nate admits that he sneaked a peak into journal. Ludlow doesn't care and pays Nate the money for the journal. Ludlow and his sister leave, so they can make it to an auction for the Amber Seal. Nate smirks and they decided to steal the seal and then find the Amber Room before the Ludlows do.

The two plot out a plan of how to break into the auction house and steal the seal. They find out that the auction is at Volkov Castle in Ukraine and is run by the Zapodolo Mob. They fly to Ukraine and continue to plan the theft, which includes scoping out the location. Nate finds a secret entrance of the castle and takes notes of the guard's shifts. As he wrote his notebook, a voice interrupts him and pulls a gun to Nate's head. It's a mysterious girl, but those who've played the game knows her as Chloe.

Paige's Opinion-

When I first heard about the series had a small comic series, I knew I had to get it. I'm a fan of the Uncharted series. The comics might be before the adventures of the computer games. If you never played Uncharted, Sully, Flynn and Chloe are other characters that star in the series. This comic series is stand-alone and is not connected to the games. Sadly Elena was not in the series.

The comic series is only up to six comics, so it's short. I'll make a full opinion on the post for issue six of the series.

Mark's Thoughts-

Not much I can say, I'd forgotten DC made this and not some other comic company. I haven't really played the Uncharted games but have seen the playthroughs. The art looks pretty good. The story is a good set up, and the issue ending with Chloe, a fan favorite, joining the crew will bring fans back for the second issue.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
