AEW Dark Elevation Episode 91- 11/28/2022 (Women's Matches)

 By Mark Rodriguez

We get three matches this week as we see more of Emi Sakura and Mei Suruga. We also get to see the indie star Blair Onyx make her return to AEW.

Match 1- The Bunny w/Penelope Ford vs Blair Onyx

Right as the announcer introduces Blair Onyx, The Bunny is already up in her face hitting her with elbow strikes. The bell rings and Bunny whips Blair across the ring and knocks her down as she runs back towards her. With Blair up against the ropes, Bunny starts stomping on her and pressing her boot up against her face. Bunny then moves back and runs across the ring, hitting Blair with a diving crossface.

Bunny grabs Blair and starts talking smack to her. Blair manages to hit her in the midsection a few times. Bunny takes a swing and Blair dodges by leaning backwards until she touches the mat. Blair grabs her by the throat but Bunny kicks in the midsection and runs for the ropes. Bunny knocks Blair down with a high knee strike to the jaw. With Blair dazed, Bunny grabs her and sends her Down The Rabbit Hole and pins her for the win. Penelope Ford comes in to celebrate the win with The Bunny.

Match 2- Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero vs Emi Sakura and Maki Itoh

Emi walks up to Nyla acting like she wants to shake hands, but she runs it through her hair instead. Emi throws a chop at Nyla and both start exchanging chops. Nyla has enough and grabs her for a choke slam. Emi slips from her grasp and shoves her towards the ropes. Nyla sees that Marina wants to get into the ring and Emi goes to tag in Maki.

As both women square up, Maki shoves Marina's face back. Marina shoves her down to the mat. Maki gets Marina in a wristlock and Marina shoves her face back. Marina grabs both of her hands and flips her over with a judo throw. Maki manages to kick her away. Maki runs in and knocks Marina off her feet with a side headbutt. She drives her knee into Marina as Emi gets tagged in. Emi hits Marina with a chop and then folds her up and sits on her. Emi and Maki enjoy some tea, at Marina's expense.

Emi tags Maki back in, who gets Marina down with a snapmare. Maki runs towards the ropes and lets herself drop with her Iron Head, but Marina gets out of the way. Marina grabs her and slams her with a back suplex. Marina shoves her towards the ropes and tags Nyla in. Nyla throws some shots at her, and then she tags Marina in who also lands some blows. Nyla is tagged back in and she grabs onto Maki along with Marina. Nyla and Marina make the mistake of headbutting Maki's Iron Head, and get rattled.

Maki gets this chance to slam Marina down with a DDT and then goes for the Ground and Pound. Nyla runs at her with a Senton, but Maki gets out of the way. Nyla ends up landing on her teammate instead. Maki lets herself drop and hits Nyla with the Iron Headbutt. Maki tags in Emi who runs into Nyla with a Flying Crossbody. She then runs and does the same to Marina. Ema returns to fly into Nyla a second time. Emi and Maki both get on the ropes and start punching their opponents.

Marina manages to grab Maki and throw her outside of the ring. Maki throws some elbow strikes at Marina, but The Problem only needs one strike to knock her back. In the ring, Emi slams Nyla down and goes for a pin, but the Native Beast kicks out. As Emi gets up, Nyla knocks her down with The Spear. She then picks her up and slams her down with the Beast Bomb and keeps her pinned to score the win.

Match 3- Athena vs Laynie Luck

As both women run towards each other, Athena socks Laynie out. Athena then slams her face into the mat twice and sends her rolling out of the ring. Athena follows after her and hits her across the back. Laynie manages to land a few shots of her own, but Athena beats her into submission with a series of hammer punches to the back.

Athena grabs Laynie and throws her into the steel steps twice. She then rolls her back into the ring. Athena slowly walks over to her and tries to grab her but Laynie is quick enough to reverse this into a roll up pin. Athena gets out of it and lays her out with a high boot to the face.

Athena grabs her for a submission move, wrenching her mouth open, to which Laynie quickly taps out to. Athena wins the match but regardless she hits Laynie with a running kick to the side and hits her on the back on the head. She then grabs her in the submission move again. Athena looks at the camera and warns Mercedes Martinez that she's coming for her and leaves the ring.

My Thoughts-

Some good matches, though I was disappointed that the first one was so incredibly short. I have seen Blair Onyx on social media here and there and have never gotten to see her in the ring until now. It looks like she was on Dark a while back against Leyla Hirsch, and I missed that one, so I was pretty excited to see her on Dark Elevation tonight. Other than doing her spider pose, she really didn't get to do much so I hope we get to see more of her going forward.

The tag match was fun, and while it looked like Emi wasn't a fan of Maki at first, they were a decent team. I kinda wish they won this one though. There was a good moment where Emi and Maki were in charge and Maki even landed the Iron Headbutt on Nyla. Emi should have hit them with the 450 splash and won that one. I know a lot of the veterans are used to make the younger up and comers look good, but once in a while Emi has to score some wins to make it look like more of a big deal that someone is able to take her down. It was kinda odd to see Emi and Nyla be on opposing teams, they're usually in a tag team. I do get a kick of everyone getting in on Emi's tea time spot, regardless of who her tag partner happens to be.

Athena gets to thrash another opponent. On her social media, Laynie says Athena was the reason she signed up for wrestling school, and she was finally to 'get her ass beat by her'. Well, Athena sure didn't hold back. With Ring of Honor Final Battle coming up, we'll see how Mercedes Martinez will handle Athena's more savage and brutal style.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
