Dragonball Super manga Volume 1 (Chapter 5)

 By Mark Rodriguez

Thanks to a special ritual, Goku was able to obtain the form of Super Saiyan God and fight with Beerus. Even though he wasn't able to defeat Beerus, he impressed the Destroyer God enough for him to spare the planet. Beerus also tells him there are other universes out there with powerful fighters, and even though he seemed all-powerful, Whis is even more powerful than him.

Chapter 5- Beerus and Champa

The next chapter takes place several months later with Goku and Vegeta sparring on Beerus' planet. As Vegeta is about to get attacked from behind, he turns into a new form called Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Goku says they agreed not to use that form and transforms as well, but bites his tongue trying to pronounce the super long name. He asks Whis if they can do anything about the name, and he suggests to just call it Super Saiyan Blue. He also tells them that they were supposed to be training without using it.

The narrator casually explains that Goku and Vegeta went to train with Whis. There was a time where Freeza was revived with a new form called Golden Freeza, but he was defeated due to Goku and Vegeta's new Super Saiyan Blue forms.

Whis makes Goku and Vegeta wear extremely heavy outfits as punishment for breaking the rules. Just then Champa and Vados show up and they're looking for Beerus. Whis explains to Goku and Vegeta that Champa is Beerus' brother and is the God of Destruction of Universe 6, and Vados also happens to be Whis' sister. Beerus arrives as Whis and Vados discuss who's the strongest between themselves, and Champa says it's time for a showdown. A showdown with food.

Champa presents Beerus with the eggs of a Don Don Bird, that don't impress him. Beerus presents him with Ramen, which Champa and Vados love. Champa asks where this food comes from and Beerus explains it comes from Earth which has lots of delicious foods. Champa tells Vados to search for their Earth as Universe 6 and 7 are twin universes, as are universe 1 and 12 and 2 and 11. Vados says their Earth had a war and humanity is extinct. Goku says it's not surprising since their Earth also faced destruction a few times, including the time Vegeta almost destroyed it.

Champa says they should have a match between 5 of the best fighters from each universe, an Invitational Gods of Destruction Tournament, and if Champa wins, they will switch universes. Goku is excited.

My thoughts-

This was a pretty cool story with a cool fight between Goku and Vegeta. This is also the first time we see the new outfits that they get while training under Whis. It's a shame we only get to see these outfits during the Resurrection F story (which the manga skips) and this Universe 6 VS Universe 7 tournament before they just go back to their regular outfits from DBZ. Those could have been their new outfits to make Dragonball Super stand out more, but they're quickly forgotten in the long run.

As for the missing story in between, for those that haven't seen the movie or the anime, Freeza's remaining soldiers led under Sorbet managed to revive him with the Dragonballs. Seeing that Goku has gotten stronger in his absence, Freeza actually opts to train for the first time ever and achieves the new Golden Freeza form. He faces the Dragonball gang as Goku and Vegeta show off their new Super Saiyan Blue forms. Freeza's main weakness is that he didn't train his new form properly so he tires himself out after using it for too long. Freeza tries to destroy the planet but Whis turns back time a few seconds before it happened and Goku kills him again. Of course this is important to know because Freeza does have a major role later on in the manga.

One thing I found interesting is that at least in the movie, Freeza's resurrection would have happened regardless of what's been going on with the others. So while Golden Freeza's form had the disadvantage of running out of power too quickly, it's sheer luck that Goku and Vegeta met and trained under Whis to gain new forms. Golden Freeza would have easily destroyed Super Saiyan 3 Goku, time limit or not.

One the major differences between the Resurrection F movie and the anime was how Tagoma was treated. It was kinda surprising that he was killed off so quickly considering he was on the movie poster looking like he'd be a major character. When Freeza mentioned he wanted revenge on Goku, Tagoma suggested to forget about the Super Saiyans for now and maybe focus more on rebuilding the Freeza Empire. Freeza blasts him into space for questioning him.

In Dragonball Super, Tagoma has the misfortune of helping Freeza train, pretty much getting beaten within an inch of his life, getting healed and doing it all over again. This pretty much drove Tagoma to become as insane and sadistic as Freeza himself. To top it off, they randomly decided to bring Captain Gi Nyu back (still trapped in the body of a frog since way back in the Freeza saga). Captain Gi Nyu tricked Tagoma into switching bodies with him.

At that point Vegeta kills Gi Nyu, which also means he destroys Tagoma's real body. We can only assume Tagoma is still stuck in the body of a frog and it's never been revealed if he even survived the events of the Resurrection F arc considering all the explosions and whatnot during the battle. It seems he was just screwed either way. If anything, being blasted into space might have been a mercy killing compared to all the torture he went through in the anime series.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
