IDW TMNT # 43 Attack on the Technodrome part 3

By Mark Rodriguez

Krang plans to eradicate all life on Earth with the Technodrome to make it inhabitable for his species. While at first it seemed Don betrayed his family to side with the Foot, it was actually a clever plan from Leo to pit Krang and Shredder's forces against each other. The two big bads do go face to face, but in the meantime, Don was left under the care of Bebop and Rocksteady with orders to take him out upon the first sign of betrayal. Now what will happen?

The issue opens with the Turtles watching Shredder and Krang fight, wondering where the Fugitoid was, since he was supposed to meet up with them upon their arrival. Leo decides they don't have time to wait and have to start moving.

Krang and Shredder fight it out, determined to finish what they started at the ship. During the battle Krang actually slices Shredder's sword in half. Traag and Granitor put up a fight against Koya and Bludgeon. Shredder manages to swing an axe into Krang's face, but his armor protects him and he smacks him back so hard his helmet flies off. Krang tells Shredder that he was betrayed and now he will die.

The Fugitoid is sitting around with Baxter as the evil scientist reveals that he had installed malware into the Technodrome so once Krang activates it, he will seize control of it. Fugitoid warns that activating the Technodrome at all will cause multiple loss of life, but Baxter is willing to take that sacrifice as long as he can take control of such a weapon. Fugitoid then turns back into the form of Allan Chet, one of Baxter's scientists from Stockgen (yes, he was undercover as Chet since issue 1) and tells the guards that the Fugitiod has escaped. As the guards rush in, Baxter activates a trap door that fills the room with mini Mousers. They all electrify Fugitoid and the guards, knocking them out (though not sure how Baxter managed to avoid getting shocked himself).

Hun is impatient from sitting around doing nothing since Shredder told him and Karai to just hang back and wait. Just then an explosion hits the room, knocking Hun back. This was caused by Old Hob that brings in Slash, Mondo Gecko, Herman the Hermit Crab and Splinter, all armed and ready to fight. Karai and Hun get ready to fight as Foot Soldiers fill the room.

Hun remembers Slash as the guy that socked him in the face during the rescue mission to get Leo back from the Foot. He punches Slash in the face that has no effect, and Slash quickly chokes Hun and slams him through a wall, saying he remembers him as the guy that was beating his own son, Casey, to death.

Mondo tries to attack Karai with his gun mounted skateboard, and she easily knocks him down. Before she can hack him with his sword, Splinter intervenes and they start to fight. He says today Shredder and his evil will be doomed, but he tells Karai that feels she does not deserve this fate.

As the fighting continues, Hob sneaks past the action and steals a vial of mutagen from the foot so they can't make any more mutants. Hob tells his gang that it's time to head out and Slash asks about Splinter. Hob says the Turtles bailed out on them before so they can do the same thing.

Leo, Mike and Raph wander around Krang's base with Mikey wondering if they should have waited for Fugitoid. Leo says they didn't have the time to wait and Raph tells him to stop whining. Guards arrive but Mikey quickly takes them down, hoping that nobody else caught them. Just then Baxter enters the room with Fugitoid being carried by a horde of mousers. He then sends an army of cyborg mutant flies after them.

Krang continues to beat Shredder bloody and is ready to finish him off. Krang is suddenly alerted of Baxter's attack within the complex and he runs off, telling Granitor and Traag to finish off Shredder, Koya and Bludgeon.

Krang arrives before Baxter can finish with his plan and smacks the treacherous scientist out of the way. He mocks him for using something as predictable as malware and easily reroutes all the programs so he can activate the Technodrome. The Turtles bust in but are too busy fighting the flyborgs to do anything. The Technodrome fires off its terraforming beam.

Shredder, Koya and Bludgeon prepare to face their fate. The mutants tell Saki that they will stay and die together. Shredder says they won't be the only one dying and gives Bebop and Rocksteady the order to kill Donatello.

This issue is awesome and full of action. One thing the IDW series is good at doing is when they're done with all the talking and setting up plot threads and it's finally time for the action, they don't skimp out on it. The major attraction is finally seeing Shredder and Krang fight it out, and like Krang said, without holding back or escaping in the middle of it.

I do have to say, I am surprised to see Krang outclass Shredder so severely. He didn't really give Krang much trouble other than being possibly a bit of an inconvenience. In fact, for all his scheming and mind-games, IDW Shredder isn't all that dangerous in a fight as other versions. In the IDW series all four Turtles took down Shredder the first time they met. Yeah, it was four on one, but we're so used to seeing other versions of the Shredder taking out all four turtles by himself, something even OT Shredhead was able to do on some occassions.

This version of the Shredder relies heavily on mind games and treachery, but in a straight out fight he seems to be easily matched. This of course, only builds up Krang as a super dangerous and super powerful threat, but geez, at let Shredder get in a few licks in before he goes down. And then Koya and a friggin mutant powerhouse shark get taken down by the stone warriors? Damn, poor Shredder's forces never had a prayer. This battle shows that Krang and his army are THE bad guys to beat and also cements the fact that they ARE the biggest threat in the series thus far.

Splinter shares a completely random scene with Karai in which he says he doesn't believe she should share the same fate as Shredder, and those words effect her. Um... ok? So we're gonna go with the whole 'Karai has some honor and is only misguided' story again?

It was also nice to see Baxter back in action. Here we see him be cool and calculating with his mousers and flyborgs, and even though Krang did basically foil his plans with a bitchslap, it was cool seeing Baxter in control for the time being. Being the only human character without any sort of fighting skill in a series full of fighters, he's still someone not to turn your back on And hey, he finally found out that one of his employees, Chet was really the Fugitoid all along.

The Turtles themselves kinda take a back seat to everything else, but hey, we got so many characters to work with, and since we all know somehow they'll end up being the ones to save the day, might as well give all the secondary characters a chance to shine.

Other than that, this issue is awesome and action packed. Brace yourselves because next issue.... well.... next issue won't be too kind to Donatello....

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
