IDW TMNT # 42 Attack on the Technodrome part 2

By Mark Rodriguez

The Technodrome is coming.. While most of the Turtles join Splinter, Hob, Slash and others to take down the Shredder.... Donnie actually enlists the Foot Clan for help since they might be the kind of army he needs to take down Krang and save the world from his ultimate weapon. What will happen next?

The issue opens with Old Hob and his gang getting ready to take down the Foot, but Leo clarifies that while Splinter will be at their side, the Turtles themselves have other things to tend to. Hob is pissed, but Splinter assures him that he will stay and fight alongside him and he wishes their sons well. Whatever Leo is planning, Splinter says it's a brilliant plan. Hob says their mission will be a lot harder without the Turtles coming along.

Elsewhere Baxter and Fugitoid tell Krang that they found out that Shredder and his army are going to attack Burnov island and take the Technodrome. Krang is furious and demands to know who his spies are, but Baxter reminds him that they need Fugitoid alive to help with the Technodrome. Baxter has more to say, but only if Krang promises him to spare him when the world is terraformed. Krang agrees and Baxter tells him that the spies are actually the turtles he faces before and they have allied themselves with the Foot using the portal that Fugitoid helped to build. Krang has Granitor lock Baxter and Fugitoid up as he prepares to deal with his enemies.

The Turtles meet up with Donnie, and Metalhead is there being guided by Harold. The portal is ready to go but Donatello insists on staying behind to oversee the machine. The Turtles get ready to jump in the portal. Don tells his bros he really loves them as they leave.

Once they're gone the Foot arrive and Don is ready to activate the portal for them. Shredder leaves Bebop and Rocksteady behind to watch over Donatello with instructions to kill him if he betrays them.

Meanwhile, April stops by to visit Dr. Miller. To her surprise, he's eager to repay his debts and help out as long as it means he'd be safe from the Shredder once and for all. April says their plan is still a work in progress at this point.

Hob and the gang arrive at Burnov island. Hob asks Splinter if he's distracted by worrying about his sons, and the rat sensei tells him they can handle themselves. They get ready to strike.

Moments earlier, Leo tells Splinter about his plan to use Shredder's own methods against him to stop both him and the Technodrome. Leo reveals that it was their idea to have Don pretend to side with the Foot and become their double-agent on the fact that if Shredder wants to rule the world, he won't just stand by and let Krang destroy it. With Fugitoid telling Krang about the Shredder's attack, and Hob's group attacking Burnov island, the Turtles can take advantage of all these distractions to take down the Technodrome. Splinter asks why he wasn't told sooner and the Turtles admit he's been too obsessed with taking Shredder out to listen to anything else.

Splinter admits he has let his feelings make the fight against Saki get too personal, while the Turtles were able to create such an elaborate plan. He agrees to take part in it.

Shredder and his ninjas are ready to strike, but they are surprised to see Krang's forces already waiting for them. Shredder's ninjas take on Krang's soldiers. As for Krang himself, he gathers Traag and Granitor by his side as they prepare to face Shredder, who is flanked by Koya and Bludgeon.

My Opinions

Leo's Light Yagami gambit was quite the reveal, but it did kinda take away from Don 'secretly planning things without his family knowing'. While he was hiding it from Splinter, it still looked like he was trying to rush the Turtles out the door (or through the portal) before they found out he was working with Shredder. I don't know, it kinda ruined Don's character since he really wasn't rebelling, he was just playing a double agent. Maybe this was revealed too quickly, it's something that could have been done in an issue or two to keep the suspense going.... but I guess the let down would have been the same. Oh well.

The Turtles telling Splinter to his face that he has been too obsessed over Shredder to see the bigger picture has got to be one of the hardest things they ever done. I mean how do you step up and tell your father he's messing up and you, the younger son, have a better solution? It was a good scene and Splinter humbled himself and saw he was right. After all, he could have just said to hell with their plan and continue with their original plan since he is both their father and their sensei, but no, he took a step back and saw that they were right and he, the father figure, has let his own emotions blind him.

We rarely see the heroic characters do this. In the Nickshow Shredder is blinded by his hatred for Splinter that he overlooks the Kraang trying to rule the world and all these mutants suddenly running around the city. Here Splinter is the one obsessed on ending his vendetta with Shredder without acknowledging that Krang plans to wipe out all life on Earth. It's interesting to see such a reversal since usually the bad guys are blinded by their obsession for revenge.

We'll have to see what happens next issue as all hell continues to break loose as Attack on the Titan-drome continues.

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
