IDW TMNT # 41 Attack on the Technodrome part 1

By Mark Rodriguez

The Turtles met up with Old Hob and his new mutants and get into a fight against Bebop and Rocksteady. After the battle, Splinter is worried that this will alert the Shredder that they're back in New York. However, Donatello himself announces to Shredder that they will need help from the Foot to take down Krang and the Technodrome. Let's see what happens now.

In Dimension X, Krang prepares the Technodrome for full-on activation. Baxter and Fugitoid bicker, Baxter over being exhausted of being overworked, and the Fugitoid for being forced to take party in the potential destruction of billions. The Technodrome fires off a massive eye beam and Krang is pleased with the results.

Shredder talks to Donatello, who is using Metalhead a proxy, as the turtle explains that Krang's Technodrome is near completion and they need an army to stop it, and army Shredder can provide. Shredder doubts Don would betray his family, but the turtle tells him what matters most is stopping Krang and saving the world. He explains he has a way to transport the Shredder's men onto the Technodrome and he has a spy on the inside that will help them out. Don turns Metalhead into car mode and it drives off. Harold talks to Don, who's sitting back in the lab and is ready to test out the teleporter.

Meanwhile, the other Turtles, joined by Mondo Gecko, Slash and Herman launch an attack which turns out to a practice run. Splinter and Hob decide they're ready enough to take on Shredder, and they will have to start without Donatello. Before they head off, Leo requests a private family meeting with Splinter. Hob and his gang feels excluded, and Raph tells them that while they're all mutants, but not family.

April and Casey discuss how they've been busy with life and not really helping the Turtles in their personal war. April says she remembers seeing 'the guy with the magic book' lurking around school again, and since he knows a lot about the Foot Clan, she might get some info out of him. This guy was featured in The Secret History of the Foot Clan series that explains more on how Karai revived Shredder in present day, as well as his first meeting with Krang back in ancient Japan. Once April steps out, Casey breaks out the hockey mask and hockey clubs.

Don dressed up in the trademark trenchcoat and fedora and gets ready to try out the teleporter. Harold tells him he'll be sure everything will work fine, and Don tells him there might still be some bugs, like what happened when they met 'those ghost guys'. Yep, the acknowledged the Ghostbusters crossover in actual continuity. Don enters the device and soon returns soaking wet and with a souvenir of the Eiffel Tower. It's raining in Paris, and the device is a complete success. Harold tries to hide how excited he is that it worked and Don prepares to tell 'someone' that all systems are go.

Shredder gathers all of him men and gives out their orders. Shredder will lead the main attack with Koya, Bludgeon, his Elite Guard and lots of Foot Soldiers. Hun will stay and watch the city with Karai. Finally he has a special mission for Bebop and Rocksteady. Shredder dismisses his men. In private Karai tells Shredder that she doesn't trust Don to really betray the other Turtles. Shredder says he considers them to be the enemy of their enemy, so it benefits both parties to take down Krang. He also hints that Bebop and Rocksteady will be used as back-up in case Don does betray them.

Fugitoid tells Baxter that he might have some way to stop Krang's plans. Baxter agrees and they shake hands, though it's difficult to see if he can really be trusted. Krang is overjoyed that the Technodrome worked. Due to the energy blast, the entire area is now a reddish atmosphere, which reminds him of his home planet. He has succeeded in finding a way to create New Utrominon. Krang announces that they go live 'tomorrow'.

Lion King reference?

My opinions

This is a pretty good set up issue. No real action, but hey we have to slowly lay our cards down on the table and show exactly where our players are on the board before we make the final play. Don is getting ready to work with Shredder, and Shredder has given his men their orders. Splinter and Hob have their teams ready to take down the Foot.

I'm eager to see how all of this will go. Bad guys by nature, always want to kill the hero, no matter what else is going on around them. Whenever they have to team up with the hero, despite how important the hero is to save the world, or what is at stake being much more important than whatever personal vendetta lies between the good guy and bad guy... the bad guy always wants to kill the hero immediately after or sometimes even during their team-up. And Shredder is a classic villain in this regard, especially the ones we see in this comic series and the new cartoon. I mean in the Nick show the Kraang were going to invade New York and then the world but all Shredder cared about is revenge on Splinter.

Two scenes that stood out to me was when the turtles wanted to have a family meeting and Hob and the others felt excluded. Raph said they're all mutants, but not family, and that seemed to insult everyone, not just Hob.

Say what you will about Hob, the Mutanimals do consider themselves to be family too.

I also find it interesting how the Ghostbusters crossover was referenced in this. For those that don't know, that crossover took place some time before Don left the group. The four Turtles test out the transporter and end up in an alternate version of New York, which is of course, where the Ghostbusters are from. They face a sibling of the Rat King and Kitsune that somehow ended up as a ghost in the Ghostbusters' reality.

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
