NXT October 31, 2018

By Mark Rodriguez

Since the Mae Young Classic is over, I might as well check out NXT for a while and get caught up on the Superstars of tomorrow. Last time it was revealed that Johnny Gorgano was the mystery guy that attacked Alistair Black. Also, Shayna Baszler defeated Kairi Sane and regained the NXT Women's Championship on WWE Evolution. What will happen now?

First Match- Nikki Cross VS Mercedes Martinez

Nikki got Mercedes in an arm lock, but Mercedes was able to get out of it and toss her back. Nikki got on the ropes and kicked Mercedes in the face. This got Mercedes angry and she flat out grabbed Nikki's leg and yanked her down to the mat. With Nikki down, Mercedes stomped on her and got her in a Guillotine but the Twisted Sister was able to punch her way out. Nikki jumped off the ropes and planted Mercedes to the mat with a Crossbody but she still kicked out of the pin. Mercedes rocked Nikki with three Backdrop Drivers and a Running Knee to the face. She tried to go for a Fisherman Buster but Nikki reversed it into a Neckbreaker slam. Nikki would grab Mercedes in The Purge slam and score the win. Afterwards, Nikki would circle Mercedes and stare at her like a rabid dog, only to smile creepily at her, allowing her to leave.

Suddenly Candice LeRae would come out, angry that Nikki 'ruined their lives' since Nikki was the one that told Black that Johnny attacked him. Nikki laughs and rolls out of the ring but runs into Alistair as she tries to leave. Nikki backs away and leaves as Black turns his sights to Candice and heads towards the ring. Black asks Candice where Johnny is and she says he's not here. Black says Johnny's future is gone and walks out of the ring.

Second Match- Street Profits VS The Mighty

The previous month, the Street Profits had a match that was ruined due to Montez injuring his knee on the steel steps, so they were given a chance at a rematch with The Mighty.

Angelo started strong against Shane, and stopped Nick from interfering. Angelo slammed Shane down with a One-Handed Slapjack and tagged Montez in. Montez showed off his knee was as good as new as he was able to do his flips and dropkicks against Shane and Nick. The Street Profits would clothesline The Mighty out of the ring. The Mighty were able to get Montez on their corner to double team him, and Shane would slam him with a modified Falcon Arrow.

Montez would leap over Shane and tag in Angelo who would wreck The Mighty by himself. Montez got on the ropes but was tripped by Nick. Shane would pick up Nick who would pick up Montez off the ropes and slam him onto the mat. Angelo would come in to break the pin. Angelo would take to the ropes again and hit Shane with a Frog Splash and score the win. The Street Profits also recovered their trademark cup that The Mighty stolen from them earlier.

William Regal declares that Tommaso Ciampa will defend his NXT Championship against The Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover War Games. Black arrives and demands to know where Johnny is. Regal tells him he told Johnny to stay home, but he will be facing him one on one at the PPV. Alistair tells Regal that Johnny's future in NXT will Fade to Black.

Lars is throwing stuff around outside, furious to find out that the title shot went to Velveteen Dream instead of him. He says he will just have to break him in half before War Games so he can take his place.

Third Match- Luke Menzies VS Matt Riddle

Luke would try to overpower Matt, but he managed to reverse it into an Armbar. Luke would break free but the crowd would be impressed by the King of Bros. Matt would strike with several high kicks to the chest. Luke would catch both of his arms and throw him with an Overhead Toss, and then start bringing the punishment to him. Matt would be done playing games and hit him with a running knee to the face and then get him in the Bro-mission move to which Luke would tap out. Matt Riddle scores the win in his NXT debut match.

Shayna Baszler is the Womens' NXT Champ- We get a replay of the final moments of the match between Shayna and Kairi at WWE Evolution in which Shayna would win. She is being interviewed after the match when Kairi shows up calling her name, being barely able to stand. Shayna says 'forget it, you're not champion anymore' and walks off with her friends. Kairi falls on one knee and has the officials look at her as she is badly injured from the match.

Fourth Match- Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch VS Humberto Carillo and Raul Mendoza

Raul would dazzle Burch with his flips and kicks and tag Humberto in. Burch would try to get Lorcan to double team Humberto, but he would flip out and take them out of the ring. Raul and Humberto would Suicide Dive both men outside the ring. Humberto would take to the ropes and leap towards Lorcan, but he would have his legs up, making the high flyer land on his boots.

Lorcan and Burch would try to gang up on Humberto, but he would tag in Raul who used his speed to take out both men. With all the running around, Burch would grab Raul with a Hip Toss into the turnbuckle and slow him down. Lorcan and Burch would pick up Raul and slam him down, scoring the pin and the win.

The Undisputed Era VS The War Raiders-

The Undisputed Era are hanging out and being arrogant as always when the War Raiders suddenly jump all four of them backstage. The fight spills outside where the War Raiders grab one of the Era and lawn darts them into the side of a trailer, shades of nWo. Everyone starts throwing each other onto tables and chairs of an outside dining area, and the Undisputed Era would come in fighting with trash cans and trash can lids.

Since the Era is four guys, the soon outnumber the Raiders until suddenly Ricochet comes in to even out the odds. Ricochet mainly targets Adam Cole and takes the fight to him. Cole would throw Ricochet against a steel fence. The Raiders would slam Bobby Fish and O'Reilly into a garage door and drag them back inside and towards the ring. Ricochet comes back to the action however, the Era soon overcomes all three of them.

Suddenly Pete Dunne comes in and beats Cole down with a steel chair. Ricochet and the War Raiders regain control and beat back the Era. Regal comes out and tells everyone that this is not how the fight will go. Pete Dunne, Ricochet and the War Raiders will settle things with the Undisputed Era at War Games. The good guys are excited for this chance, but the members of the Era aren't so thrilled.

My overall opinions-

NXT is only an hour long so I'll just give my overall thoughts instead of the highs and lows. They sure crammed a lot of action during this hour, which is the benefit of not wasting half an hour on promos.

I was super surprised to see Mercedes Martinez in NXT. I don't know how that'll work since she still has the Phoenix of Rise title to defend and most likely works other indie promotions. I'm surprised Nikki was able to beat her due to Mercedes' tenure in the business, but I love Nikki so I'm glad she won.

The Street Profitz are always impressive and I just love to look at them go. I'm glad to see that Angelo is back in action and in good shape. Matt Riddle is pretty impressive, kinda like a surfer dude with MMA skills, I can see what all the fuss was about.

Humberto and Raul were amazing and hyper high flyers. I'd love to see more of them. Their opponents though were pretty bland in appearance and style, but I see they have quite the fanbase.

Holy crap that all-out brawl at the end. That was not what I was expecting at all and it was a lot of fun. I wonder if those 'random people' in the background were extras or what, but it was fun seeing them wreck that dining area. Then Ricochet came in to make it more fun. I'm hyped to see all 8 of these guys at War Games.

I'm also digging the Alistair/Johnny storyline and wonder if Johnny will cut a promo to explain why he did it. Candice herself looked kinda like a heel, dressed in black and black lipstick. I want to hear their side of the story. I also like how Nikki is somehow involved in all this, maybe we'll see a match between Candice and Nikki down the line.

It all looks like this was a great time for me to get into NXT. Next week Lars will be facing the Velveteen Dream, so let's see how that will go.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
