IDW TMNT # 37

By Mark Rodriguez

A lot of things have happened here and there once the gang returned to New York. Don and April found out that Harold was working on Metalhead, and Angel found a super suit and is now the vigilantee Nobody. Mike and Raph see that Old Hob and Lindsay are working on new mutants and made Slash intelligent. Leo and Splinter had a run in with the Rat King. And now Shredder is face to face with Krang. Let's see what happens.

This issue begins aboard a ship over international waters as Shredder and Krang are face to face and recall how they already met 300 years ago (the original Oroku Saki before being preserved over the ages, and Krang just lives that long I guess). As they sit, Shredder offers him protection of Burnov Island. Krang doesn't take him seriously, but will allow him to explain, but warns against trickery.

Elsewhere, Kitsune appears before Alopex in her fox spirit form. Alopex is ready to fight, but Kitsune only wants to talk. Kitsune tells her that a fox knows when to watch and when to act, and now she must act and return home. Alopex feels confused by her words as the fox spirit runs off.

Shredder and Krang discuss when they last met, as Shredder's ninja ambushed Krang then known as the Iron Devil. Shredder says that it was a different era and it was nothing personal. The world has changed and he intends to rule it and wants powerful allies. Shredder tells Krang that he knows about the things he's been working on. Krang says he knows he's after the ooze, but it won't matter if Shredder tries to rule the world since soon the world will fall anyways and become New Utrominon.

Shredder says the world will never accept an alien like Krang as their leader and will stand up against him. He offered him protection with the Foot and they should combine their resources and rule together. Krang feels he needs no outside help and will not ally himself with Shredder. He also plans to kill every single human on the planet... starting with Saki. Krang punches right through Shredder's chest and drops him. He tells his men to carry off the dead body and kill the Foot Ninja, but the body is revealed to be fake with a bomb. Shredder himself was disguised as one of the Foot Ninja and sets off the detonator, blowing up part of the ship.

The other Foot Ninja jump in the way of the gunfire as Shredder runs off, a helicopter arriving to pick him up. The stone warriors blow the helicopter up. Krang is ready to finish Shredder off, now that his escape route has been destroyed. Shredder smiles and says he's always ready with more options in battle. On his word, Koya flies into battle, as does a mutant hammerhead shark named Bludgeon and they attack the soldiers. Krang sends Traag and Granitor after the mutants and prepares to deal with Shredder one on one.

Krang and Shredder start fighting it out as the Stone Warriors deal with the mutants. As they fight the ship begins to sink. As Shredder and krang prepare to finish each other off, Koya swoops in to save her master. The Stone Warriors also grab Krang and requested to be teleported off before the ship goes down.

As the ship goes down, Koya hopes she didn't anger her master for pulling him away like that, but he understands. Bludgeon asks if they are now at war with Krang. Shredder says in a way, they always were.

My Opinions

Wow. What an issue. And it was probably the complete opposite of what everyone was thinking. There will be no big team up. Shredder and Krang won't be riding around in the Technodrome with Bebop and Rocksteady. They are war with each other, each one ready to rule the world. There can only be one. And the Turtles as well as any other opposing forces are caught somewhere in the middle. Wow. That is how you do an awesome story. I haven't seen the bad guys be this much more powerful than the good guys in a while.

It's also cool to note that while the Turtles are the main heroes and have foiled their plans before... they mean nothing to them on the grand scale of things.  These two were discussing their own evil goals, and not the usual 'let's team up to take down those wretched reptiles that always ruin our plans' deal. In a way, it makes both Shredder and Krang into grander world-threatening super villains, and not just a couple of chumps always waving their fist in the air cursing at the Turtles as they run off to lick their wounds.

One thing to note is that Shredder and Krang have met before in ancient Japan, back when Krang was known as 'The Iron Devil'. It was during this time that the Foot stole some of the ooze and used it along with Kitsune's powers to keep Saki alive from throughout the centuries until Karai would one day awaken him.

Speaking of Shredder... what was that fake Shredder dummy they used? Some kind of robot...? Was the real Shredder hooked up with a mic so whatever he'd say would come out of the fake Shredder's mouth? Um.... I'm not saying it wasn't really a clever ruse, cause it was... but how exactly did that work? It sure as hell couldn't have been a recording since there is no way to predict what Krang was going to say beforehand to make a pre-recorded speech go along with it. How did that work?

There isn't much to say about Alopex, except she got to be on the cover even though she was only in the story for 2 pages. It brings even more interest on Kitsune, especially after learning that she's Rat King's sister and has her own plans. In the last issue, Rat King keeps mentioning chess phrases like 'the players are gathering; and 'Leo is more of a knight than a pawn'. In this one, Kitsune also  mentions that 'all the major players are gathering'. What are these two up to?

This is a pretty awesome comic, and with no turtles no less. It's also a good way of showing what these two have been up to while we saw the other Turtles doing their own thing in the last few issues. Let's see what happens next issue.

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
