Mae Young Classic 2018- Round 2 Part 2- October 10, 2018

Mark Rodriguez

The Mae Young Classic continues as we enter the second round. So far Rhea Ripley, Lacey Lane, Toni Storm and Meiko Satomura have already advanced to the quarter finals. With talented women like Kaitlin, Io Shirai and Tegan Nox yet to compete, which one will advance to the quarter finals now?

Match 1- Zeuxis VS Io Shirai

It looked like Io pulled Zeuxis in for a kiss when they shook hands in the beginning of the match, but whatever it was, it was pretty quick. Shirai was in control until Zeuxis send her her flying out of the ring with the Basement Drop Kick that seemed to have injured her opponent's shoulder. Now with a weak spot, Zeuxis would focus on the injured shoulder, getting her trapped in Arm Lock. With Shirai up against the ring post, Zeuxis would kick her shoulder and also hit her with a double knee. Shirai would use her speed to get back in control and hit Zeuxis with a double knee from off the ropes and a running double knee as well. Zeuxis would try for a Moonsault but miss. Io would try to do her own, but Zeuxis tripped her leg out so she would fall onto the turnbuckle. Zeuxis would try to get Io in La Dulzura but Io would fight her way out of it and got her in a Hurricarana off the Turnbuckle. With Zeuxis down, Io would run and hit her with a Double Knee to the back of the head and then pull her into position to end it with the Moonsault. Io Shirai advances to the Quarter Finals.

Pretty good match as now Io Shirai faced a much more skilled opponent. Zeuxis was quick to take advantage of the injured shoulder and we got to see how Io had to fight against the pain to win. Both women put on a good show but I had a feeling that The Genius of The Skies was going to take this one.

Match 2- Deonna Purrazzo VS Xia Li

Purrazzo started getting Xia into different armlocks and the armbar, but Xia managed to kick her in the side and get her with a legdrop and an albow drop. Xia hit her with a kick to the face off the tunrbuckle. Purrazzo got back in the game by doing a Drop Kick to the face and continuing to weaken the arm of Xia Li. Purrazzo managed to lock in the Fujiwara Armbar but Xia reversed it into a pin, but The Virtuosa kicked out. The women would trade chops and then punches until Xia kicked her on the side of the neck, but still couldn't get the pin. Xia tried to do an attack off the top rope but Deonna caught her in the Fujiwara Armbar but this time she managed to tie up both of her arms, giving her opponent no choice but to tap. Deonna Purrazzo makes it to the Quarter-Finals and she'll be facing Io Shirai!

This was quite a match, and I feel bad for Xia's arm. I think my two favorite spots were when Xia hit Deonna with the kick to the face off the rope and the finish. Just the way Deonna wrapped her up with both arms, I don't see how anyone could get out of that one. It was a pretty intense match and women pulled out all the stops. I wonder how far The Virtuosa is gonna go. I definitely can't wait to see her go against Io Shirai!

Match 3- Tegan Nox VS Nicole Matthews

The match started with Nicole pretending something was off with Tegan's knee brace, and landing a cheap shot when she looked down to check. Nicole managed to kick her around and land some kicks to the back of the spine, until Tegan would slam her down and kick her in the back of the spine as well. Nicole would stop her momentum and gets her into a Suplex Pin, but The Shiniest Wizard would kick out. Tegan would shoulder tackle Nicole to the ground up against the turnbuckle and hit her with a Cannonball. She'd then hit her with the Shiny Wizard and win the match. Tegan Nox will face Rhea Ripley in the Quarter-Finals.

I don't know, I was kinda Nicole would with this one, especially after hearing that the winner will face Rhea. Tegan is going to be yet another little girl against the much taller Rhea, and while she's not as short as Rhea's last 2 opponents, Nicole is more her size. I would have loved to have Nicole and Rhea just fight it out.

I didn't notice Tegan's knee brace and will have to watch the first episode of the MYC to see if she still had it there. It does give a hell of an unfair advantage as her Shiny Wizard is basically slamming the metal part of the brace on the side of the opponent's face. It doesn't look good for Rhea due to Tegan's big fanbase, but I still hope she can put the Shiniest Wizard away.

Main Event- Mia Yim VS Kaitlyn

Mia Yim came in with a bandaged hand due to smacking the turnpost accidentally in the last match, and her giving a chop to Kaitlyn showed that hand was still in pain. Kaitlyn would hit her with a series of Legdrops and then a Cannonball when Mia was up against the turnpost. Kaitlyn got Mia trapped in a Body Scissors leglock until she slammed her elbow onto her knee to get out. Kaitlin would try a Baseball Slide under the ropes, but Mia caught her leg and slammed the back of her knee against the apron. Now Mia would target the back of the knee with some brutal kicks. Mia got her opponent leglock submission and then started to punch her. Kaitlin would dare her into punching her again, but move aside so Mia would punch the mat with her bad hand. Kaitlin would grab Mai in a submission move as she's bend back Mia's wrist and pull back her fingers, and then slam her hand against the mat.

Kaitlin would try to lift Mia but her bad leg would give out and Mia turned this into a pin but she couldn't keep her down. Kaitlin managed to get Mia into two bodyslams though, leaving her begging for mercy due to her injured hand. This was a trick, but Kaitlin would still dodge Mia's attempted strike and slam her again but couldn't get the pin. Mia would get Kaitlin with her Soul Food finisher, but she would kick out. Kaitlin hit her with The Spear and Mia would kick out. Kaitlin would try to stomp on Mia's injured hand, but Mia would get her in a Knee Bar and make her tap. Mia Yim makes it to the Quarter Finals and will be facing Toni Storm.

This was a pretty intense match and it surprised me when both women kicked out of both finishers. Mia's Soul Food looked more impressive the last time since she jumped off the ropes. It still looks weird, but I guess the point is she falls back while holding her arm while at the same time kicking the side of your face as she falls. It just looks more like a slick move to use during a match than an actual finisher, but kudos to her by using the Knee Bar on Kaitlin's injured knee to get the win. I also have to note that her ring attire was influenced on the Black Panther, so she gets extra points for being a Marvel fan.

Kaitlin put up a good match and had some good moves as well
like the Body Scissors and The Spear. I do wonder where does she go from here? Does she get to return to WWE like Mickie James did? Or was this a short comeback?

My Overall Opinions

Pretty good overall. My pick to win it all is Mia Yim, and believe me, it was tough to choose since I also like Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley. I love her look and her style. She's just awesome and has that cool bad-ass tough girl attitude that's hard not to like. However, she has both an injured hand and Toni Storm's strong following to overcome, and I also suspect Io Shirai is also a top pick for many. It might be too soon to choose but the final match might either be Io Shira VS Mia Yim, or it will at least involve one of these two. I still wish we could have seen Nicole Matthews VS Rhea Ripley though. I think the finisher of the night though, was still how Deonna Purrazzo got Xia Li tied up in the Fujiwara Armbar and did it to both of her arms.

Overall these women have all been very talented and very impressive thus far. Now we move on to the the Final Eight. Who will survive and advance to the Semi Finals??

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
