IDW TMNT # 49

By Mark Rodriguez

Shredder has Baxter under his employ and the mad scientist is using a mind control helmet to send armies of Mousers and Flyborgs after the Turtles and Splinter. Angel and Alopex soon arrive to help but the heroes are still heavily outnumbered. Meanwhile Hob and Herman break Hun out of the paddy wagon for mysterious reasons. Let's see what happens.

The issue opens with Koya and Bludgeon watching Bebop and Rocksteady watching cartoons and eating pizza, being disgusted with their stupidity. Koya says they don't understand that now that Shredder is back and alive, they can make up for abandoning him before. Bludgeon says all that matters is that they're still Shredder's soldiers and his return is glorious.

Shredder asks Baxter how things are going. Baxter says his robots are doing fine and he didn't need the extra ninjas that Shredder sent into the battle as back up. Shredder is confused since he didn't send the Foot into the battle and determines that Karai must have done it.

At the fight, the ninjas hack and slash the Mousers and Flyborgs into bits, confusing the Turtles. Karai tells them that they deserve a more honorable death than being killed by machines... and prepares to destroy them personally. Splinter says being outnumbered and killed by the Foot Ninjas she brought wouldn't be any less dishonorable. If Shredder wants vengeance against them so badly, he tells her there is only one honorable way, and it is up to Karai as his chunin to make sure she does so.

At the now damaged Technodrome, Harold and Fugitoid finish creating Donatello's new shell and are ready to fuse it to his body. Fugitoid hesitates since there isn't enough ooze to do this correctly and using more might endanger the lives of the Utroms in stasis. Just then Leatherhead shows up with a vial of ooze and says he'll help them if they help him.

Baxter insults Shredder over having his ninjas destroy his inventions, claiming he wishes to take the credit for finishing off the Turtles. Shredder warns him to watch his tongue. Karai arrives and fires an arrow into Baxter's equipment and says she destroyed their main threat. Shredder is ready to execute Karai but Kitsune demands that he hears her out first.

Karai explains how the Foot Clan is in risk of falling apart over Shredder's obsession with revenge. Splinter and the Turtles step into the room and the rat sensei challenges Shredder into the gauntlet. Shredder commands his Foot ninjas to kill them all but Kitsune tells him to wait. Kitsune tells him that accepting this will prove he is the rightful ruler of the Foot Clan.

Angel and Alopex are on stand by and Kitsune explains that the Gauntlet entails the turtles in facing off four of Shredder's men, in this case Koya, Bludgeon, Bebop and Rocksteady, and the survivors will aid their masters in battle as Splinter and Shredder settle the score once and for all. Baxter just sees himself out.

Mikey isn't up to this battle of the death, but Splinter tells his it's time to face the harsh reality... they will never be safe until the Shredder is dead. Shredder tells Karai to merely watch the fight instead of helping out, since he still plans to punish her afterwards for her insubordination. Splinter tells the Turtles that there is discord among the Foot and they hold the advantage as a family and a team. Raph says it's time to stop talking and start fighting.

Raph smashes Rocksteady hard in full revenge mode. Metal-Donnie grabs Koya's leg with his grappling hook and pulls her face first into the ground. Leo is pinned by Bludgeon but Mikey bails him out. Koya however, flies and takes Metal-Donnie along for the ride and is about to swoop into Raph and Rocksteady. Metal-Donnie is tossed into Raph. Bebop socks Leo out. Mikey is distracted by this and is smashed by Bludgeon's tail. All four turtles are down and the Foot Mutants are ready to take them out.

Angel wants to help but is held back by the Foot. Kitsune says they can't interfere in the battle and it has to run its course. She then tells Alopex that no matter how this ends, she will be safe at home with her when all is said and done.

My thoughts-

Now this is a little more like it. Unlike the Turtles just swatting at the Mousers and Flyborgs multiple times like the last issue, now they actually fight it out with decent fighters. Despite the Turtles getting some hits in on Bebop and Rocksteady, the fight went was expected with the Turtles going down rather quickly. I mean honestly, based on how insanely strong they are in the IDW series, the mutant rhino and warthog were all that were needed to finish the job, so with Koya and Bludgeon also tossed into the mix... the Turtles hardly have much of a chance.

The Gauntlet is an interesting ritual, I guess this is how the Foot used to solve things since both Splinter and Shredder are familiar with how it works. Despite her speeches about honor, Karai is still pretty much evil. Shredder and Karai basically share the same goals, mainly having the Foot rule and control everything it can with fear, violence and death. It's just that Karai follows their traditions more than Shredder does... and Shredder is so obsessed with revenge it seems he's willing to even let the clan fall apart entirely as long as he gets to kill Yoshi in the process. So yes... Karai still wants the Turtles and Splinter dead... just... the honorable way, I guess. Although I'm not sure where her honor was when she intended to make their fight 5 against 4.

And yes, this is the last issue before the big issue 50, and despite what everyone predicted, Donnie will still be in Metalhead form next issue. Sure they got his body fixed up with a regenerated shell... but I kinda figure that most of next issue will be the Turtles (with Donnie still being Metalhead) helping Splinter defeat Shredder... and then end it on a happy note as they head home and give Donnie his body back. And introduce Leatherhead. Yay, Leatherhead. I know this might count as a spoiler since they don't show all of him in that panel... but it's very obvious to any TMNT fan that it's the mutant gator himself.

Finally, I want to mention how they bring up the subject of killing their enemy. The Turtles have tried to avoid it or dance around the subject, but Splinter reminded them time and again that while they will try to avoid it.... they will have to kill Shredder if it comes down to it for the sake of their general safety and as well as the safety of their friends and family. Now is the time. Let's see what happens next issue! And what is Kitsune's plan for Alopex???

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
