IDW TMNT # 46

By Mark Rodriguez

Rocksteady bashed Donnie's shell open with a sledgehammer. Don wakes up to find out that his mind/soul/consciousness/whatever is now in Metalhead's body!!! Meanwhile, with Baxter watching over Shredder, the Foot is without their leader and Karai is quick to take control. What happens now?

The issue opens with Metalhead-Donnie watching over himself and giving the others instructions on how to watch his body, including transporting him back to the lair. The others feel Don is adjusting to the situation rather quickly, but he tells them that all of this is actually freaking him out.

Raph is sulking and Apolex comforts him, telling him that there's nothing they could have done since they were busy taking down the Technodrome and basically saving the world. Leo tells him they have to hit the streets to get ready for whatever consequences the city will now face after their actions. Angel teases Apolex for being friendly with Raph and they both decide to head out on their own patrol, starting with the Second Time Around store.

Casey arrived to find Hun with April's parents and he's pretty drunk. Hun is happy because as far as he knows the Foot is done and Shredder's dead, so he no longer has reason to kill Casey anymore and they can be a family again. Casey doesn't believe it and says he still has a drinking problem. April's dad tells him to leave and Angel and Alopex also arrive, so Hun steps out, smashing a bottle of *ahem* Zack Daniels in his hand in anger.

Casey tells the girls that they're ok, and Angel tells him that Hun was right about the major defeat of the Foot at the hands of the Turtles. She then tells him about the bad news.

Elsewhere, Karai announces she will take over the Foot and lead them to be even stronger than before. They will seek out their enemies and kill them.

Metal-Donnie and Fugitoid discuss the how the turtle will adjust in his robot body. As Metalhead, his mind can now process information a lot faster than before. Donnie feels weird since he feels like he's supposed to be hungry and tired, and his back should be racked with pain, but its not. Harold tells him it's just phantom pains and his own biological clock ticking as his body adjusts to being a robot.

Mikey hangs with Woody and feels kinda bummed that he just helped defeat Krang and Shredder, and already Splinter has them out and about looking for more trouble. Woody reminds him that at least he saved the world.

Meanwhile, a guy named Miller sneaks out of the New York Tech building asking himself what he's gotten himself into. Moments earlier, he was telling April about what he knows about the Pantheon (which is composed of Kitsune, the Rat King and Chi-You, the villain the Turtles faced in the Ghostbusters crossover) and their deadly contest to see who will eventually rule the world. April takes the book to investigate. Back to the present, Miller is suddenly killed by one of the Foot Elite.

Baxter shows Shredder the TCRI building, one of his many fronts for his plans. Shredder wants to return to the Foot, but Baxter wishes to show him inside the building before doing so. Baxter mentions how important it is to stay several steps ahead of the game, like chess, and shows him a manufacturing plant, creating hundreds of flyborgs and mousers.

It's cool seeing Shredder in normal clothes for once. He does look a bit like the Saki design from the 2K3 cartoon
Back at April's house, the O'Neils decide it's time to head to bed and Angel and Alopex decided to leave too. Casey decides to give April a call and see how she's doing. Just then, they're called out by Hun, who has returned with another bottle of Zack, and the Purple Dragons with him, to remind them of who own the streets.

My Opinions-

As predicted, Karai was quick to take lead of the Foot and I guess whatever business venture Baxter and Shredder have will give him time to heal up and recover. I am still not clear on what exactly Baxter wants with Shredder or why he needs him, so far it just feels like a reason to keep him away from the Foot.

Hun is still the tragic character with some twisted form of good intentions. He wants his son back and be a better father, but that will never work as long as he's still running around with the Purple Dragons.

April suddenly has a big interest with the Pantheon and I guess, decides now is the time to deal with it. One odd theme the IDW series has are all these major threats kinda/sorta looming in the distance, just far away enough give the heroes enough time to decide when they want to deal with it. It took Krang enough time to build the Technodrome to give the Turtles enough time to get to it, and the Pantheon isn't in any particular hurry to rule the world super right now, so April can now dedicate some time to it. It's just an interesting coincidence I noticed.

Sadly I missed out on 'Secret History of the Foot Clan' mini-series, so I missed out on how April knew Miller. The Pantheon however has already made some of its members known, such as The Rat King who was messing with April and Casey in their mini-series, and Chi-You. I liked how even though the characters don't directly mention the Ghostbusters, their crossover still counts as continuity here. Too bad they couldn't have done the same with Batman, but I guess that would have been too much of a mess.

The last thing I like to comment on is Shredder in regular clothes. It's subtle, but it reminds us that Shredder is literally a man out of time, also being from 16th century Japan and being in stasis until awakening in modern day. You rarely see IDW Shredder act normal, and moments like this does make it look like he just walks around his headquarters in ninja armor all day. So far, only the 2K3 Shredder was the only one to make an effort to appear like a legit businessman in broad daylight and actually leave the evil lair once in a while.

Oddly enough though, Donnie himself didn't get as much focus, other than a few panels detailing how he has to adjust to being in a non-living non-feeling body. I know we have several characters to focus on, but I would have liked more of this issue to be about Donatello, especially after last issue's cliffhanger.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
