Supergirl (2010) # 62

 By Mark Rodriguez

A new villain named Alex has created an app called Flyover that allows anyone to report a superhero sighting. He then is able to send robots that look like supervillains after the heroes at their current location in hopes of killing them. Supergirl and Robin have already dealt with these random villains and now they head off to El Paso, as it looks like Blue Beetle is next!

'Good Looking Corpse Part 3' opens in Harvard University as Justin, David and Elise are headed towards a certain direction since 'a little voice in their head' told them to. They inform Alex via bluetooth that Harvard will be completely evacuated in twenty minutes. Alex says after the events in Gotham and El Paso he knew 'she' would be onto them. He finds it calculating and insulting that 'she' sent someone else to do her dirty work. He says he can still find this useful.

Justin, David and Elise all arrive at Alex's hideout and he tells the computer to have his drones clear some space. He wants to make sure his guest knows they were expecting her.

Supergirl and Lois visit Catherine who is now in the hospital after the shock of seeing her son murdered. Lois asks what kind of monster would do something like that. Supergirl says from what she's seen so far, a pretty skilled and ruthless one. Lois wants to know what she's not telling her.

We flashback to where Supergirl and Robin discovered that the Mr. Freeze and Clayface they were fighting were actually robots. Supergirl checks one with her x-ray vision and sees what they're powered by and says something in Kryptonian in shock. Robin asks what's wrong and Supergirl uses her heat vision to tear into one of the drones to be sure of what she saw.

Supergirl shows Lois a Kryptonian Sunstone. Lois decides to hold back her story since she doesn't want the mystery killer to find out they're on to him. Kara says after what happened in Gotham it probably won't make a difference. She quickly skims through Lois' file and asks is the location of the Cadmus facility is accurate and Lois confirms it.

Before Kara can fly off Lois asks if her plan involving the other heroes isn't risky. The heroine says it's only risky if they don't know what they're up against, but this time she's ahead of the curve.

Alex looks at Elise and tells her the heroes have no idea what they're up against. It would be very easy to track the signal of the Flyover app to the Harvard server, but being able to predict him is another matter. He then blasts Elise with psychic waves, knocking her down and revealing that she was Miss Martian in disguise. Alex now plans to take control of her.

Supergirl soars above the city while keeping in communication with Robin who is in civilian clothes among the populous. Blue Beetle is also hiding in civilian clothes, enjoying a burger. They're in disguise to make it easier for them to get closer to Harvard without the app locating them. Supergirl arrives at the Cadmus base telling Robin she'll meet up with him in an hour.

The campus has been cleared and the computer will transfer all units to increase security of the main hub. Alex is eager to leave his hideout as he waits for Supergirl. The computer tells him it was important to secure his safety. Until Alex reaches full maturation, he will still be vulnerable to physical attacks.

Damian and Jaime hang out, with the Boy Wonder saying the plan would have been going better with a more decisive leader calling the shots. Jaime says Supergirl knows what she's doing since the people with the "S" on their chest always do. Damian says never to idolize the symbol and judge the person in the role. He says Supergirl passed the test but he'll still be watching her. Kara arrives and tell the heroes that it's time to get moving. As they go, Damian asks if Kara found anything in the lab. Kara remarks that she found 'just a bunch of dead ends' as she found random corpses being experimented on.

Jaime asks if Kara is okay. She recalls running into lots of newspaper clippings of the various heroes with the words 'HAVE TO STOP THEM' written across a photo of herself as Supergirl. Kara tells Jaime she's alright and says they have a schedule to stick to.

At night Supergirl, Blue Beetle and Robin stake out the university and they don't see any sign of Miss Martian or anyone else. Beetle detects something with his sonar and it's Miss Martian being captured by one of the drones. Supergirl flies off at full speed and tackles the drone down, smashing it to the ground. She blasts it with her heat vision as Robin remarks on her lack of subtlety. Supergirl says she's sick of hiding and wants answers.

Just then Miss Martian says she looked up to Supergirl and was in awe of her. She asks why she had to be such a disappointment, as she is under Alex's control. Miss Martian blasts Supergirl into a wall with her eye beams, Blue Beetle barely managing to get Robin out of the way. A portal opens and drones surround Robin and Beetle. Robin says to do exactly as he says as both of them get overwhelmed. Alex tells the computer to open another portal, the time has come to show his face.

Miss Martian tells Supergirl that she took advantage of her faith in her to get into danger. Supergirl grabs her and flips her into a wall telling her shut up. She apologizes for getting her involved and is hit by Alex's psychic waves. Alex says this is a way to weaken her so she can't get to him. Supergirl determines he's the person Cadmus was working on with the Kryptonian DNA. Alex doesn't confirm or deny and blasts Supergirl with his own heat vision. Supergirl is sent flying out of the room.

As the drones pick up the unconscious Robin and Blue Beetle, Alex sends Miss Martian to kill Supergirl. Robin and Beetle were playing possum and the scarab-powered teen activates a powerful sonic charge that disrupts the drones. The computer determines that all the units are in danger and starts up the emergency teleport funnel that will take everyone to the main hub. Alex says to stop, as the teleportation process begins, as they don't have Supergirl.

Everyone is teleported away, leaving Supergirl alone and knocked out.

My thoughts-

If I recall this was my first time ever seeing Miss Martian and Blue Beetle, so it was cool to already kinda know them whenever they would appear on Young Justice and other media. I like seeing these characters interact, even if the moments are brief.

The issue started with a bit of misdirection with Alex mentioning how 'she was sending others to do her dirty work for her'. I didn't know if he possibly meant Lois for bringing Supergirl on the case, but it turned out that Alex knew Miss Martian was posing as Elise from the start.

I'm just very confused when the switch happened and how Supergirl could have known that Elise was one of Alex's friends? Like what a delightful coincidence that Kara happened to tell Miss Martian to impersonate someone within Alex's friend circle that would also be commanded by him to head towards his home base? This just raises so many questions. The more I think about it, the less it makes sense.

It turns out Alex is the mystery project Cadmus has been working on. I'm also starting to think maybe his father is speaking to him through the computer from wherever the Cadmus main base is located. That does explain why Alex killed Catherine's son after she gave Lois the information about Cadmus.

Another thing that kinda disappointed me is that they found Blue Beetle off-page. We never got to see him fight against his super villains (or robot versions of them anyway). It's kind of a missed opportunity for me as a newcomer to Blue Beetle to see some of his rogues gallery.

I'm curious to see where all of this goes, but Miss Martian posing as Elise left me scratching my head.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
