The New 52- Forever Evil # 6

By Mark Rodriguez

The Crime Syndicate has killed the Justice League and given the world to the villains of the DC Universe. Lex Luthor doesn't want to see the world go to hell and has assembled his own crew of villains to help him save the world. He has allied himself with Batman, Catwoman and Deathstroke. Siniestro also joined them and has just killed Power Ring, the Syndicate's version of Green Lantern. As Batman gathers the villains to help him rescue Nightwing, Ultraman and the rest of the Syndicate have noticed signs of the great evil that destroyed their world is now arriving to this world. Let's see what happens next.

The story opens with Luthor and Batman looking over JLA satellite, where the Syndicate are holding Nightwing. Luthor blames the entire situation on the appearance of superheroes, and now they're going to have to fix this. Catwoman tells Batman to stop antagonizing the bad guys. Luthor tells everyone to hit the water, like Manta suggested so they can get to the Syndicate before they know what hit them.

The Syndicate are busy watching the bleeding crack in the sky. Ultraman tells Deathstorm to fix it. Owlman gets a message from Alfred (their evil version of Alfred) telling him that he needs to come and see 'what they did to Nightwing' when Grid was told to protect them.

Luthor's gang arrive near the Syndicate base and Bizzaro notes that noone is home and Deathstroke wondered where they could be. Siniestro uses his ring to search for any signs of the Syndicate. He locates 8 signatures, 6 are away and 2 are left in the building. Catwoman asks if there should only be 7 left since they just killed Power Ring and wonders who the 8th one is. Batman has a manual override to get inside and Lex wonders why he even has one unless he was hoping to go against the Justice League some day. Batman, Catwoman, Luthor and Bizzaro head into the building while the others split up to kill the Syndicate members.

Alfred informs Owlman that Nightwing was placed in some kind of device called the Murder Machine. Grid then realizes that security has been tampered with and someone is inside. Owlman tells Alfred to protect Nightwing, but the butler feels he has to disobey since it's more important that their other mysterious prisoner doesn't escape. As Alfred goes to check on him, he's grabbed by Black Manta and is ruthlessly murdered. Captain Cold is surprised, and Manta reminds him they have to kill all of them. Cold wonders if the captured prisoner is one of them.

Batman tells Nightwing that he's going to get him out of here. Just then a door slams that traps them inside and timer goes off for a bomb. Siniestro's ring detects Firestorm being held downstairs and the 6 energies are headed their way. Before anyone can say anything, the Syndicate bust into the room. Ultraman tells Johnny and Atomica that others are inside, so they go off to find them. Siniestro attacks Ultrman, but Black Adam demands pay back on him. Superwoman uses her lasso on Siniestro while Owlman walks off.

Bizzaro and Luthor try to break the doors down and wonder why they can't. Batman tells them that this chamber was originally designed to contain Doomsday. Nightwing tells them that the bomb is wired into his heart, the only way to stop the countdown is if his heart stops.

Black Manta and Captain Cold remove the bag off the head of the mysterious captive. Johnny Quick and Atomica arrive to stop them.

Batman is unable to disarm the bomb and Dick tells him that he should just leave. Luthor then blasts Batman down, and Bizzaro stops Catwoman before she can attack. Luthor holds his hand over Dick's mouth, to suffocate him, so he can save their lives.

Atomica tries to find someway inside Black Manta to kill him from within his bloodstream but his suit is completely sealed tight without any way for her to get inside. Johnny takes Cold's gun and has him by the throat, saying that he killed the Cold from his world, except he was a cop and didn't use a freeze gun. Cold says he uses a Cold Gun that can slow someone down to absolute zero. Johnny says it doesn't matter since he's holding it now, but Cold activates it with a verbal command. The gun freezes Johnny's thigh, and Cold kicks it off. He says he has a mutual respect with the Flash, but not with him. Atomica is shocked and flies in to help.

Bizzaro tries to stop Batman and Catwoman with his fire breath, while Luthor continues to suffocate Nightwing. Batman puts on his Kryptonite ring and socks Bizzaro in the jaw.

The captured stranger smiles and taunts Atomica over losing Johnny. Atomica is shocked that they removed the tape off his mouth. Lightning strikes as the stranger yells out MAZAHS!!! and Ultraman realizes that the prisoner is free. The lightning hits the prisoner and it sends Atomica flying back, knocking her out.

Batman tackles Luthor away from Nightwing and starts punching him violently, calling him a murderer. Luthor tells him its not too late and he has everything under control.

Johnny crawls over to Atomica, but this newcomer says he isn't going anywhere... and snaps his neck. He says he's going to kill every last member of the Syndicate... and Captain Cold asks this stranger who he is. The man says he is Alexander Luthor, and he will kill every last one of them to show that he is this world's most powerful hero, Mazahs.

My Opinions-

Things are getting crazy and are quickly falling apart for the Crime Syndicate. Siniestro killed Power Ring. Black Manta killed Evil Alfred. Johnny Quick is killed by an alternate version of Lex Luthor that has the powers of backwards-Shazam. It's weird how they gave Lex the powers of Shazam in the alternate universe, but then again, Super Woman was their version of Lois Lane, and not Wonder Woman.

Despite coming from an alternate world full of hate, Johnny Quick and Atomica did seem fond of each other, or at least treated each other with respect. Johnny Quick was a real jerk so he won't be missed, and it looks like Atomica will soon follow.

As for Nightwing, did Luthor really kill him? Even if he survives this, he was unmasked for the world to see on live TV. How will he go back to a normal life now that all his enemies know who he is? Not only that but it seems that Nightwing is even getting his book cancelled, as well as Teen Titans and Suicide Squad. While Harley has her own comic, where will this leave Tim Drake?

Other storylines are on hold as it seems this story is taking major precedent. As previously mentioned the Justice League comics have been dealing with the origins of the Crime Syndicate members. The Batman and Catwoman books are dealing with some sort of alternate reality story called Gothopia while this story blows over. At the time, Forever Evil was THE main DC story and it kinda sucks if you weren't personally invested and just wanted to read a normal Batman comic.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
