Dragons Rioting Vol # 1 Chapter 3 Manga Review

Rintaro has a unique problem. Due to a weak heart, if he gets too worked out, he risks dying. Thinking he signed up for an all-boys school, instead he got stuck in an all-girl school! Other than having temptation everywhere, he also got stuck between a three-way rivalry between the Dragons, Ayane, Kyoka and Rino. Things get more complicated when Ayane is impressed by his fighting skills and wants to become his pupil. What will happen next?

 

Chapter 3- Twin Winds Dance

Rintaro is in bed, still wanting to transfer out of the school and regretting taking Ayane in as a student. Ayane wakes him up in his own dorm room and brought along Keiko and Makoto for training. Rintaro makes a break for it and Ayane considers finding him as part of the training.

Back in class, Kosuke and Tamao meet up with him and say since there are few guys in the school they should be friends. They invite Rintaro to their club, the Asylum Knowledge Brigade, which is them mostly chilling outside under a tree. Tamao and Kosuke try to check out the girls' dressing room but Rintaro's freaking out catches their attention. Kosuke and Tamao try to explain that Rintaro is the master of Ayane from the Flashing Dragon Anchor, but the women are still angry. As the guys make a run for it, another woman appears and knees Tamoa in the face, sending him flying.

Kosuke recognizes the arm band she's wearing and they run, however she is now in front of them. The guys turn to see that they are in fact twins from the Nagokuren Disciplinary Committee. The girls leap in to strike and as Rintaro dodges them on instinct, Tamao and Kosuke take the hits instead. As the super famous sadistic twins how focus solely on Rintaro, his friends decide to cut out and bump into the Disciplinary Committee  President.

  

The President, Asuna is nice and sweet and recognizes Rintaro. When she finds out that the boys were caught peeping however, she says they will have to be interrogated. Kosuke and Tamoa are more than happy to hang with the girls while Rintaro has doubts. At the interrogation, the guys are punished and can choose either 60 days of suspension where they can't leave their dorm, 90 days of 18-hour community service... or paying 100,000 yen each (roughly 640 bucks in 2026).

The girls attack Rintaro for declaring all of this to be unfair and he dodges all their attacks. He closes his eyes to focus and and catches both of their blades between his fingers. Then he summons a hurricane attack called Way of the Sparrow's Wing- Elegant Winged Heavenly Gale. This sends the women flying around and landing in a heap. Since their clothes were torn up, Rintaro tosses his jacket over to them so they can cover up.

Asuna shows up, not knowing about her girls trying to extort money out of the guys and comforts them. She hides a sinister smile that Rintaro notices. Asuna changes into a performance outfit and starts dancing around, and everyone cheers while Rintaro is confused. Then there's an exhibition and auction as one person buys a bunch of Asuna memorabilia for 86,000 yen (a little over 551 bucks in 2026). Tamoa and Kosuke put their money together for a photo of Asuna that she kisses in front of the. Just then the auction is over and everyone scatters.

Ayane arrives to break it up and asks Rintaro if the girls took his money and if he's fallen for Asuna. Kosuke and Tamoa turn on Rintaro saying that Asuna is theirs and they run off to get more money. Rintaro wants to settle this matter with Asuna now and has Ayane take him to her. Kosuke and Tamoa overhear this and follow suit.

Ayane and Rintaro catch Asuna going to her classroom but she is gone when they go inside. Rintaro closes his eyes and focuses on his super hearing and detects a hidden door in the room. As they go in, Kosuke and Tamoa also follow.

Asuna tells someone over the phone that their scheme is working perfectly. Basically the twins Rurina and Rumina scare the students, and then Asuna comes to their rescue to trick them out of their money. Their main goal is to make Rintaro fall for them. Just then Rintaro enters the room and demands to know what is going on. Asuna pretends to cry but Ayane steps in and tells her to drop the act. Asuna says she should have the dragon name and gets set to attack with Rurina and Rumina.

 

The three women attack and Ayane steps in to counter the attacks of the twins. Asuna throws her chains at Ayane but the Dragon of the Flashing Star vanishes, leaving the chains to only hit her jacket. Ayane appears behind Asuna and tells her that the title of the Dragon has to be earned and you have to shoulder the thoughts and feelings of your friends. She swings with a might punch called the Flash of the True Dragon's Fist of Light. Her fist purposely lands right next to Asuna's head, missing her, but leaving a big crater on the wall due to the impact. Asune drops to her knees as she sees the true power of the Dragon of the Flashing Star.

 

Asune cries and says it's not fair that Ayane is a first year and is already a Dragon. Ayane tells Rintaro that she will make her explain everything. Just then Asune leaps up towards Rintaro, planning to take him hostage. Suddenly Kosuke and Tamoa tackle her down, saving Rintaro. Shortly afterwards the Disciplinary Committee was disbanded,  and all the money was returned to their rightful owners. It also turns out that one of the twins now admires Rintaro. Sometime later, Rintaro, Tomoa and Kosuke make a toast to be brothers and hope to get lucky on the same day. Ayane shows up asking about the training and Rintaro runs off.

Meanwhile a girl informs Rino of Asuna's defeat and she says it was to expected since she never really expected much out of her. The woman asks Rino how she hopes to defeat Ayane and Kyoka. Rino says to beat a Dragon you need a Dragon or something different with similar strength, like a tiger. The 'Strongest one in Nangokuren' is coming back, the Heavenly Ruling Tiger Meru. 

 

My Thoughts-

In this one we see that Rintaro has to worry about not just the Rioting Dragons but all the people working under then. Here they uncover a scam where the sadistic twins scare the students and then Asuna comes to save them in exchange for a fee. Rintaro officially becomes friends with Kosuke and Tamoa, even though like similar anime series, those two are pervs that constantly get in trouble and by extension drag down the respectful and chaste Rintaro along with them.

The story had a lot of lightning-fast martial arts and special moves, but it's difficult to find appropriate pics to showcase. Rintaro seems to be a master of a million moves since his skill allows him to have some sort of secret technique to get him out of any situation, whether it's a fight or not. Part of the fun is seeing what random new technique he'll come up with next.

So far in the first volume of the manga we have seen Ayane and Kyoka in action, but Rino seems to prefer to hand back and run extortion scams from the sidelines rather than fight it out. She, so far, seems to have others do the fighting for her. Out of the three, Ayane seems to be the old heroine. We'll see if she gets more directly involved as she enlists Meru, someone who is apparently as strong as the Dragons.

Overall this was an interesting volume and I quickly grabbed the second volume. Sadly the manga became out of print after only a few years, and it never became popular enough to get an anime adaptation. I'll do my best to grab all 9 volumes but some are super rare and expensive nowadays. That's too bad since this come could easily rank up there with Ikki Tousen and Air Gear.
