Dragonball Super manga Volume 6 (Chapter 32)

The Tournament of Power is on the horizon, a battle royale match between several universes where the losing universes will get erased from existence. Each universe needs a team of 10 to enter. Goku had succeeded in recruiting Krillin, Android 18 and even Android 17. Unfortunately, Majin Buu had fallen under deep hibernation so he's out yet again. The crew considered enlisting Gohan in his place, but even so they still one more member to round out the ten... The other universes are busy recruiting their own teammates as well. What will happen next?

 

"Chapter 32- The Super Warriors Gather! Part Two" opens on Universe 6, Planet Sadla, as we see Cabba answering a call. Champa had told him to do whatever it takes to gather the best fighters in the universe, regardless of if they're good guys or bad guys. Just then two Saiyans drive past Cabba in a truck. 

The passenger tells the driver that they entered Caulifla's turf. The driver says they're members of Sadla's army. The passenger says the army doesn't mess with her because they can't handle her. The driver agrees and says he was just going for a shortcut and decides to turn back. However it was already too late for that as a foot plants itself on the truck's hood, stopping the vehicle. Caulifla has found them and she tells them they'll have to give her everything that have if they want to drive through.

 

Caulifla tells her crew to start unloading the truck. The older Saiyan says they worked hard to gather those supplies. His buddy warns him against going after Caulifla. The man tells her not to underestimate the Sadla Army, the most powerful army in the universe. He lunges towards her and Caulifla grabs his fist and tosses him into a building.

Caulifla and her crew continue to raid the truck and find mostly food but also jewels. The Saiyan says those jewels were tribute for the king and pulls out a gun. One of Caulifla's girls sees this. As the man prepares to aim his weapon, it's suddenly gone. The man is confused as his gun is missing. The woman has the gun tucked in her hand behind her. She crushes it to pieces. Caulifla and the others leave, and she tells the men to bring more stuff next time.

Later on Caulifla is chilling with her crew at the hideout as they start to ration their ill-gotten gains. Just then Cabba steps in. Everyone wonders who he is and one of them pulls a gun on him. Cabba blasts the gun out of her hand with a finger. He finally addresses Caulifla directly. 

Over at Capsule Corp, Whis and Kaiohshin ponder what kinds of fighters the other universes will bring, seeing as they'd be scrambling to recruit their teams as well. Bulma is surprised they're still up at such a late hour. Whis tells her that he doesn't really need sleep and Kaiohshin offers to stay up a little longer.

Back to planet Sadla, Cabba is sent flying through the wall of Caulifla's lair. Caulifla says she doesn't want to enter some tournament. Cabba says the universe will be destroyed if they lose. Caulifla says she doesn't care and if she wants her to join, he'll have to make her. 

Cabba stands up and powers up into a Super Saiyan. Caulifla is surprised that his hair turned blonde and Cabba zips behind her. Caulifla is surprised but she swings her arm back, Cabba manages to block her strike. He says the form is called Super Saiyan and all the Saiyans in Universe 7 can do it.

 

Caulifla doesn't understand what he's talking about and starts attacking, but Cabba can block and dodge everything she throws at him. Cabba kicks her which sends her flying into a mountain. Cabba flies towards her. Cabba is ready to throw a punch and Caulifla closes her eyes, bracing for impact. Cabba stops his punch, his fist a few inches away from her face. 

Cabba is holding the jewel that Caulifla stole and wore as a necklace. He says this belongs to the Sadla army and she will return it. Caulifla asks if all the Saiyans from 'this Universe 7 place' can turn really blonde like him. Cabba says they evolved past that form. Caulifla is surprised there are that many Saiyans stronger than her. He says he's someone as talented as her can also transform. He offers to show her how if she enters the tournament.

Caulifla agrees and tells her crew to give Cabba some juice from the cargo trucks. Cabba doesn't want stolen goods and asks for water instead. Caulifla wants some too. One of Cabba's Saiyans walks towards her and presents her with the jewel that Cabba had taken from her earlier. Cabba is surprised she somehow snatched it back from him without him noticing. Caulifla says she didn't have to do that and she can just give it back to Cabba.

At Capsule Corp, Beerus wakes up and says sleeping at night doesn't make him feel refreshed. He notices new people there, as Kaioshin has invited his predecessor to help and Krillin has arrived too. Bulma asks who else is coming and Krillin says that Roshi will be joining them. He adds that he plans to upgrade his house with the prize money. Vegeta asks what he means by prize money, which confuses him.

Outside, Dr. Briefs, Bulma's mom and Trunks are looking at Bra in her crib. Goku shows up and says he dozed off after eating at Ten Shin Han's place but he is joining the crew. Bulma, Vegata and Krillin don't look too happy to see him. Krillin is angry that he was lied to. Bulma says that now Krillin and Android 18 won't be taking part. Krillin adds that the part that bothers him the most is the fact that Goku didn't tell him about the universe being destroyed if they lose.

Krillin asks if Goku thought he'd be scared and not join. Goku asks if he's scared. Krillin says he is, which is why he's not joining. Elder Kaiohshin says he thought Krillin was going to say something else. Goku says Krillin is small and runs fast so he'd be a good teammate. Krillin says that's not a compliment but he'll join. He'll be sure to have Android 18 not join if she doesn't get paid. Bulma offers to pay both 18 and Roshi. Goku thanks her, and Bulma gives him a glare.

Kaiohshin says they got nine members but they still need a tenth. They have less than a day to find someone. Goku says he wishes Future Trunks would have stuck around. Beerus says they got an entire universe and all of their chosen fighters are from Earth. He says this wouldn't have happened if they haven't wiped out the Freeza Army. Elder Kaioshin asks about this and Bulma says he should already know about this. The elder says he's retired and doesn't have time to watch the Earth anymore. Kaioshin whispers to this elder that this happened during his vacation.

Whis explains that some time before their tournament against Universe 6, members of Freeza's army brought him back to life. Freeza came to Earth with thousands of troops. Goku and Vegeta were training with Whis during this, so the Earth fighters (Roshi, Krillin, Ten Shin Han, Piccolo and Gohan though Jaco the Galactic Patrolman helped too) had to fight them off. After the army was defeated, Freeza transformed into Golden Freeza, but Goku and Vegeta turned into Super Saiyan Blue and killed him.

 

Vegeta says he doesn't know about any of Freeza's non-combatant followers, but they did wipe out his entire enemy. Goku is silent and ponders on 'he' being killed. He figures if 'he' was killed, they can bring him back from the other side. Krillin asks who he was talking about. Goku says he's referring to Freeza. Everyone is shocked and Vegeta asks Goku what is wrong with him.

Krillin asks if Goku wants to use the Dragonballs to revive Freeza. Bulma says they don't have time to gather them. Goku says he doesn't intend to use them and instead wants Uranai Baba to bring him back similar to how she once did for Goku and Vegeta. Kaioshin says the plan is ridiculous and they don't even know if Freeza will listen to them. Goku says even Freeza wouldn't want the universe destroyed and will join when he sees he has no other choice. Bulma argues that he'll try to kill them again.

Vegeta asks why Goku is going so far as to recruit Freeza. He says Goku has been stupidly confident at times but this time it feels different. Goku says he recently had a chance to fight someone from Universe 11 and lost. Vegeta asked if he used his full strength. Goku says he didn't but the guy did mention there's someone else even stronger than him. Goku asks Whis if there are stronger people than them in other universes. Whis says he really doesn't make it his business to know. Whis says that not even the Kaioshins and Gods of Destruction know each and every warrior in their respective universes. He adds there might be new warriors participating that they never saw before.

Elsewhere, Cabba is piloting a spaceship with Caulifla and the other Saiyan girl with the impressive speed. Caulifla comments that achieving the Super Saiyan form was easier than she thought. Cabba says this is because she's to talented since it seems it took a lot of effort for the Saiyans of Universe 7. Caulifla sees this as proof that she is more talented as them. She asks Cabba why they brought the other girl along. Cabba says they needed as many contenders as they can get. Caulifla says her name is Kale and she has a long way to go. Kale apologizes for coming along. Cabba says they'll all do their best.

 

At Capsule Corp, Krillin ponders on facing unknown warriors and says they might need Freeza after all. Goku says if he tried anything, Vegeta and him can take care of him. Vegeta says Goku is just doing what he wants again. Beerus comments on how they're now resorting on recruiting dead people. Whis says Goku's unique form of thinking might be the strongest weapon they have. Goku teleports to go see Freeza.

We see a flashback, from Freeza's perspective as he drops to his knees and Vegeta is ready to finish him off while in Super Saiyan Blue form. Goku then flies in, also in Super Saiyan Blue, and fires off a KameHame Ha at him. Freeza screams as he wakes up from his nightmare and see he is still stuck in a cocoon in his version of Hell. This Hell is full of bright colors and fairies and other cute things. Freeza sees Goku and asks if he's still dreaming.

Goku says he has some business to discuss with him, though he thought Hell would be a lot scarier. Freeza says nothing can be more hellish for him. Goku says he can only give him 24 hours but asks if he wants to get out of there. Freeza smirks and asks Goku what he's up to.

Bulma looks out the window and ponders how late it is and Goku hasn't returned yet. Everyone needs to be ready by morning. Whis says everyone should get their rest. Krillin says it feels weird that they're going to revive Freeza.

The next day, Vegeta puts on his Saiyan armor and steps outside. Krillin, Android 18, Android 17, Master Roshi, Ten Shin Han, Piccolo and Gohan are there. Roshi is surprised to be included in this again. Gohan says it'll be good to work alongside Vegeta again. Vegeta says he barely recognizes Gohan and says he looks ready. Gohan says he is, thanks to Piccolo.

 

Vegeta tells 17 he hasn't seen him in a long time and heard he was working hard. 17 says he protects an island in the south and left Vegeta's son in charge. He asks if he's sure he can handle it. Vegeta says even though Trunks is just a kid, he's still just as strong. Piccolo asks where Goku is, and states that even if shows up there's only nine of them. Bulma says Goku must have failed. Ten Shin Han asks if Goku was off finding someone else. Roshi assumes it's Yamcha. Ten Shin Han says Yamcha must be wimping out and if he insists on not coming, he'll go grab Chaozu. 

Just then Goku and Freeza both show up with Uranai Baba, looking rather beat up. Piccolo and Gohan are shocked to see Freeza. Vegeta is surprised Goku actually talked him into it. Bulma asks why the look beat up and Goku says peaceful negotiations didn't go well. Freeza comments on all the familiar faces. Uranai Baba takes her leave.

 

Piccolo tosses senzu beans to both Goku and Freeza so they can heal up. Vegeta remarks that the halo looks good on Freeza. Freeza says he wouldn't mind kicking his butt out of the universe before it's destroyed. Vegeta tells him to try it. Goku says Freeza has been hanging off a tree all this time and has someone gotten stronger. Freeza says he has done lots of image training and has visualized several simulations on how he'd slaughter all of them. Beerus says he'll stop him if he tries anything. Freeza says he was only joking. Krillin says they all have a long history but they should drop it for now. What matters is that they have their team of ten.

Whis uses his abilities to make Goku and Freeza's scuff marks vanish and Goku's torn up gi look good as new. Whis asked Goku how he talked Freeza into joining. Freeza comments that if the universe survives this, Goku promised to fully revive him. Vegeta yells at Goku since he didn't ask them first. Whis says to put that aside for now since it's better than having the universe erased. Ten Shin Han says it feels weird to know that if they save the universe they still have revive Freeza.

Whis tells everyone to gather around in a circle and hold hands. Freeza refuses to hold hands with Goku. Beerus says to just do it or he'll erase his soul so there'll be nothing left to revive. Beerus tells everyone that this will be a Battle Royale so they better get along for once. He says they should fight together, let the enemies defeat each other and take out everyone as a team. Only Krillin and Gohan seem to agree.

Whis uses his scepter to tell the Grand Priest that they're ready. Bulma wishes them luck. Beerus wants a victory feast when they return. Bulma tells Vegeta she'll be waiting. Vegeta nods. All the warriors warp away, Bulma holds her baby and says they're counting on everyone.

My Thoughts- 

So this chapter covers what the anime took several episodes to do, namely gathering all the fighters. The anime had several episodes devoted to how Goku found Android 17, one where he recruited Roshi and Ten Shin Han, and one where Krillin had a practice match against Gohan. Then Goku and Krillin had a match but when things got too intense, Android 18 jumped in, reminding the Saiyan that they're going to be in a battle royale. It was crazy seeing Krillin's KameHame Ha be any sort of match for one thrown by Goku in Super Saiyan Blue.

One of the weirdest things was seeing that Majin Buu was busy training and he actually turned thin and fit. It was odd considering that they were planning on having Buu fall asleep and miss out on the tournament anyway. At the time the interent already spoiled the fact that Freeza was going to be in the tournament, taking his spot.

 

The way Caulifla and Kale were introduced was also different between the anime and the manga. While the manga kept this off-panel, the anime shows Cabba help Caulifla achieve Super Saiyan. Kale was having issues with it, but seeing how Cabba and Caulifla interact got her angry enough to transform. Unfortunately, Kale transformed into pretty much a female version of Broly (and this was before we knew Broly was going to be introduced later on). In the manga though it seemed Kale hasn't transformed yet so she'll probably surprise everyone at the tournament.

 

One thing the manga added was giving Kale this 'unseen speed', where she moves so fact she can snatch an object out of someone's hands, to the point where not even Cabba in Super Saiyan form could sense. It was this ability that made Cabba consider bringing her aboard, so let's see how it plays out. 

Since the manga skipped out the Ressurection F arc and pretty much told the readers to go see the movie, we did get a brief recap of that adventure. It's something that only could have happened in the Super manga since it came after a big chunk of the anime. Imagine reading the Dragonball manga and skipping straight to the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai against Piccolo and then saying 'oh to see how Goku defeated the original Piccolo Daimaoh, watch the movie'. 

The anime added more to how Goku brought back Freeza, namely the fact that Quitela from Universe 4 found out about this. He sent several assassins in hopes of taking out Freeza. While Freeza easily took them out, one of the assassins that given a portion of Hakai energy to use against Freeza. Freeza was able to take control of it and used it in Goku. The manga did at least show them all beat up, since they did have a fight before joining the others.

One thing the manga added was the fact Yamcha got mentioned a few times but others options would come up. I have to ask what Ten Shin Han's problem was with him, suggesting Yamcha would be 'wimping out' and trying to avoid joining the tournament if asked. Sure Yamcha had horrible luck, being blown up by a Saibaman and getting impaled by Dr. Gero, but he was never specifically cowardly. He wasn't even called in to help fight against Freeza's army during the villain's first resurrection.

The other small difference between the manga and anime was the concept of 'we only have nine fighters'. In the anime, everyone was set including Gohan and Buu. But then Buu fell asleep so Freeza was brought in. In the anime Gohan was part of a preview tournament alongside Goku and Buu, so the crew already knew Gohan would take part. In the manga they weren't sure about Gohan just yet but were still counting on Buu. This still had them with only nine fighters, and when Gohan was brought in, Buu was sleeping so they ended up breaking even. Then Freeza was brought in. This was an interesting little difference give that the manga went for a tournament between the gods themselves rather than the preview match from the anime. Too bad since it was the only fight Buu really had in the whole Super anime. Two if you count his brief scuffle with Beerus earlier on.

One sad fact to add in the anime version is when the crew left for the Tournament of Power, Bulma wished everyone luck. Sadly this was the last time voice actress Hiromi Tsuru would voice Bulma. She has voiced the character since the original Dragonball and passed away on November 16, 2017. The last episode that featured Hiromi's voice was Super episode 128, which originally aired in Japan on February 18, 2018 as they were recorded before her passing. Her last full episode while still with us, was episode 96 originally aired on June 25, 2017.

Afterwards, Aya Hisakawa would voice Bulma in Dragonball Super Broly, Super Hero and her adult form in Dragonball Daima, while Mai Nakahara would voice the younger Bulma in Daima.

The Tournament is about to begin. The manga tournament is going to play out very different from how it played out in the anime. Let's see how it goes down.
