AEW Dark Elevation Women's Matches- March 14, 2022 (Episode 54) (Also remembering Scott Hall)

 By Mark Rodriguez

We get three matches this time around as we see KiLynn King return to action alongside Skye Blue. We also haven't seen Katalina Perez in a while either.

Match 1- Katalina Perez vs Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero

Katalina didn't waste time and jumped Nyla while her entrance music was still playing. A knee to the mid-section from the Native Beast was enough to slow down her momentum. Nyla picks her up but Katalina slips from her grasp and socks her in the back. The Queenpin bounces off the ropes and runs towards Nyla, but the Native Beast does a jumping knee that knocks her to the mat. Nyla runs into Katalina as she's up against the ringpost and then knocks her down.

Nyla picks up Katalina and throws her up against the ringpost, then hits her with a running elbow. Katalina drops the mat and Nyla hits her with a rolling cannonball. With Katalina practically unconcious, Nla picks her up and destroys her with the Beast Bomb. Nyla Rose wins the match and Vickie Guerrero comes in to lay out a 'I survived Nyla' shirt over Katalina Perez.

Match 2- Skye Blue & Kilynn King vs The Bunny & Emi Sakura

The match starts with Skye and The Bunny squaring off. Bunny shoved Skye against the ringpost and pies her face. Skye gets angry and they grappled, but Bunny manages to hit her with knee strikes and slams her back against the mat. Bunny slams Skye's face into the turnbuckle and tags in Emi Sakura. Bunny and Emi shove Skye towards the ropes and as she bounced back, Emi doubles her over with a knee to the midsection, and Bunny sends her back with a running knee lift to the jaw.

Emi and Bunny pose, before Emi starts kicking and stomping at Skye. Emi quickly turns to sock KiLynn off the apron. Emi flings Skye against the ropes, hoping to get her into an armdrag but Skye reverses it into a pin attempt. Emi kicks out. Skye lands a thrust kick to Emi's face and goes for another pin, but can't keep her down. Skye grabs Emi's arm and tags KiLynn in.

Skye and KiLynn fling Emi towards the ropes, but she holds to them rather than bouncing back. Skye knees her in the face anyway. Skye rolls Emi to the mat with a snapmare nd KiLynn runs at her with both knees. KiLynn tries for a pin but Emi still kicks out. KiLynn tags Skye back in who grabs Emi in a headlock.

Emi shoves Skye off her and towards the ropes. Both women try to shoulder tackle each other, with Skye being the one to stumble back. Not to be deterred, Skye knocks Emi down. Skye runs to the ropes but the Bunny grabs her. Emi is able to use this chance to grab Skye into an underhook backbreaker. Skye gets up against the ringpost and Emi runs at her with the flying crossbody. She goes over to tag in The Bunny.

The Bunny runs over and starts kicking at Skye, keeping her from tagging in her partner. The Bunny taunts Skye and her fans as she slams her face against the mat. As Bunny picks her up, Skye starts punching her stomach. Bunny knees her in the midsection to break her momentum. Bunny gets Skye up against the ropes, choking her with her boot pressed up against the throat and tags in Emi. Emi starts throwing in chops but Skye starts chopping back. Emi rakes her across the eyes.

Emi gets Skye up against the turnbuckle and goes for a flying crossbody. Skye gets out of the way and tries to pin her, but Emi kicks out. Skye runs and slides under Emi and tags KiLynn into the match. KiLynn hits Emi with an elbow to the face, then grabs her arm and starts dishing a series of chops and punches, knocking her down. Bunny runs in and gets clotheslined by KiLynn.

KiLynn runs at Emi but she gets out of the way so she's up against the ropes. Emi runs at her but KyLinn jumps out of the way. KiLynn picks up Emi for a power bomb and goes for the pin. Emi kicks out. KiLynn tries to pick up Emi again, but she gets shoved back to the opponent's corner so The Bunny gets tagged back in. Emi pins KiLynn up against the ringpost so her partner can run in to attack, but KiLynn shoves Emi into the Bunny so the bump into each other.

KiLynn runs to tag Skye but gets tripped by her opponents. Skye leaps off the ropes but misses her targets as well. Emi and Bunny hit KiLynn with a double-thrust kick to the face. Bunny grabs KiLynn and Emi grabs Skye and they slam both women Down The Rabbit Hole. Bunny pins KiLynn and wins the match for her team.

Match 3- Amber Nova vs Ruby Soho

Ruby extends her hand and Amber graciously shakes her hand, until she pulls her in for a knee to the stomach. Ruby angrily tackles her to the ringpost and hits her with several headbutts to the stomach. Ruby then hits her with a running elbow to the face. She kicks Amber and then headbutts her so badly, she stumbles backwards and falls outside of the ring. Ruby gets out after her but Amber gets back in the ring. As Ruby gets back in, Amber hits her with a double axehandle across her back.

Amber smacks Ruby a bit and gets on top of her. Ruby pushes her off and starts hitting her in the stomach. Amber grabs Ruby and pulls her down to the mat. Amber goes for a pin but Ruby kicks out. Amber then goes for a submission hold. Ruby tries to power out and get back to her feet, but Amber knees her in the side. Ruby falls back down and Amber tightens her grip on the headlock.

Ruby finally fights her way out of it and hurls Amber towards the ringpost. As Ruby goes over to her, Amber grabs her head with her legs and pulls her facefirst into the turnbuckle. Amber goes for a sunset flip but Ruby rolls out and knees her in the face. Ruby keeps knocking Amber but she continues getting up to try to attack her. Ruby lays her out with a sock to the face.

With Amber up against the ropes, Ruby rushes towards her. Amber gets her boot up, but Ruby stops and catches it in time, and knees her in the face. Ruby climbs the ropes, catches Amber with her legs and slams her face against the turnbuckle. Ruby grabs Amber and tosses with a snap release suplex and then finishes her off with the No Future kick. She gets the pin and wins the match.

My Opinions-

Kind of an average episode, at least in terms of the women's matches. The Nyla match was pretty much a squash, I felt bad for Katalina Perez being brought out here just to get destroyed. At least she got a Nyla t-shirt out of it.

The tag match was the best one tonight, though I would have liked to have seen KiLynn King be a bigger part of it. Out of the 4, she was the one we have seen the last off and the crowd did pop when she was finally tagged in. I know KiLynn and Skye are on the lower card but KiLynn was on fire there, until they had to do the part where she tripped and Skye missed her mark. This was a time I would have liked those two to have score the win, as they looked like a pretty fun tag team. I hope to see them team up again, or maybe in a trios match but someone like Ruby on their side so they have a greater chance of winning.

The Ruby match was cool. She's always fun to watch, though just once I'd like to see someone legit shake her hand without her getting attacked. Amber did get some good offense in. I did like how she did her own variation of the 'use legs to slam face into turnbuckle' move on Ruby. I would like see of her as well.

Overall a decent show though I guess wasn't terribly impressed this time around. The tag match was fun and the Ruby match was good, I just feel bad for Katalina Perez.

On other news, today also marked the day where we lost one of the greats, The Diamond Stud, Razor Ramon, Scott Hall, The Bad Guy. Sadly due to hip surgery some blood clots cause him to have three heart attacks in a day and be put on life support. Even though he lasted several hours after being removed from life support, the Bad Guy left us.

Razor Ramon got me into the WWF back as a kid. All my high school buddies (that were into wrestling) were saying 'chico' and 'hey meng' like he would. Back then when the SNES version of WWF Royal Rumble came out, we were glad to see it was his first game appearance. Scott Hall got me more invested into WCW later on. The nWo thing was nuts back then and I'm glad to have watched the whole thing unfold live. Years later I would get the chance to meet him in person with Johnny. I still say for those brief moments with all four of us posing together, it felt like Johnny and I were members of the nWo. He had a great wrestling career, was a two-time WWE Hall of Famer, faced his personal demons with help from Diamond Dallas Page, and was a good long time buddy to Kevin Nash.

Rest in Peace Scott Hall. I'm glad we had the chance to meet up even if it was for a little while. He was indeed a wrestling legend.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
