World's Finest: Huntress and Power Girl # 2 (The New 52)

 By Mark Rodriguez

Formerly known as the Supergirl and Robin of Earth 2, both women founds themselves blasted into the main DC Earth. After years of adapting to their new world, they renamed themselves to Power Girl and The Huntress. Karen (Power Girl) bought a power plant in Tokyo, hoping to use its Quantum Tunneler to somehow send them back home…. When this villain named Hakkou the Irradiated Man blew it up. Now the women want payback.

‘Rebirth II’ starts with Hakkou attacking the women. He tosses a huge chunk of steel that Power Girl swats away like nothing. Since the Quantum Tunneler is damaged, Power Girl has no problem wrecking her lab further as long as it takes this guy down. However, once she finally lays a punch on the guy, the radiation is severely painful to the Kryptonian.

Hakkou grabs Power Girl’s wrists and burns her alive. Huntress shoots an arrow into the man’s ear. Screaming in pain, he runs through a wall and gets away. Huntress makes sure her friend is alright, and Power Girl mentions the pain she felt hurt as much as the force that knocked them to this world. Huntress asks if his radiation might be related to Kryptonite, but Power Girl says it might be from Apokolips. Plus he mentioned ‘ he’s beyond this world’ so he might be from Earth 2.

We go back five years as the women come to terms with the deaths of Superman and Batman, as well as being trapped in this world. Helen confirms that the Bruce of Earth 2 was her father. Karen says she’s still invulnerable but her body feels different. Helena says all they can do is make a life in their new world. 58 months back, the girls find out about the Justice League and their battle with Darkseid (from JL # 1-6). Karen is convinced this is the same Darkseid they know and that if he can arrive here, they can also go back home.  They found some kind of indestructible fabric, which might be from Apokolips as well. Karen says that when they got blasted to this world, she can’t remember what… or who she saw in the shadows.

A few week ago in Micronesia, Karen takes a break from her business deals and goes for some precious and rare minerals. She strips to her 2-piece swimsuit and dives to the bottom of the ocean to find a huge chunk of a rare rock called Dysprosium.

Back to the present, Power Girl carries Huntress as she uses a machine to try to locate Hakkou based on his radiation. She asks if Hakkou might be a Fukushima mutation, but Karen says nuclear radiation can’t hurt her the way Hakkou did. She thinks he’s related to whoever followed them to this world.

Just then they dodge flying radiated rocks. Meanwhile in Gotham City… one of the guys at the Gotham National Bank is starting to get suspicious of all the major money transfers Helena has been doing. Back to our team, Power Girl uses her x-ray vision to locate Hakkou, but he is too close to irradiated rods to attack without spreading radiation to more of the city. Huntress fires some arrows at him to get him to move away from them.

Hakkou swats away Huntress’ arrows until Power Girl smashes him into the ground and starts punching him like crazy. She’s still pissed about the Quantum Tunneler, which Hakkou calls ‘the gateway’. He blasts her with radiation and send her flying back. As she drops to the ground, unconscious, Hakkou prepares to finish her off. Huntress steps up and says ‘over my dead body’, and Hakkou is more than eager to comply.

My opinions-

This is an interesting story and I can’t wait to see what happens next. It does seem that Hakkou is a villain from Earth 2… and if he isn’t… then who did follow them? I am concerned about Huntress though. She did land a nasty shot into Hakkou’s ear, but she still has to do her best to keep her distance from a villain even Power Girl can’t touch. It's implied her outfit is made of the same indestructible stuff that Power Girl's outfit is made of, but her face is still exposed.

There’s also a weird possible typo when Huntress says ‘can’t Hakkou mean radiation in Japanese?’ did they mean to make her say ‘DOESN’T Hakkou mean radiation in Japanese?’ but then again, who am I to talk about typos….

And with Helena proving to indeed be Bruce Wayne’s daughter (from Earth 2 anyway) I am very eager to see what happens if she ever meets Damian. Or Batman. Or Catwoman. And whenever Power Girl runs into Super Girl, who isn't as nice as the pre-Flashpoint version.

Good story, can't wait to see what happens next. It's kinda funny knowing that shortly after the Justice League came together to fight Darkseid in the New 52 version of events, Karen and Helena saw their fight on a laptop. Like they were already running around during these events. I wonder what they were even doing during the events of Forever Evil?

Love all the icons on the left side. I know some people do that, but I prefer my icons on the bottom of the screen.

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
