Free Comic Book Day 2019- The Avengers

By Mark Rodriguez

You just knew that had to have some sort of Avengers comic lined up for Free Comic Book Day with Avengers End Game out in theaters. I lost track of the Avengers for the last couple of months but based on the cover, it looks like Blade has joined the group. Let's see what this issue brings.

Make Mine Avengers

The issue opens 'somewhere, sometime' where Iron Man suddenly appears in a snowy region surrounded by some sort of snow wildcats. Tony has no idea where he is and has lost WiFi signal with all over the world. He realizes he's the only man on earth.

Iron Man remembers how since the Final Host attacked the Earth, there have been several events that led the planet through some rough times. As he recalls this, we see Namor and his fish creatures attack a ship, enraged about the oil spills killing the sea. Tony explains that lately D.C has created their own team of heroes called The Supreme Squadron of America. These heroes head down to fight with Namor.

Elsewhere, at the Avengers Mountain in the North Pole, Ghost Rider, Blade and Black Panther are under attack by Rider's demonic car. T'Chala says they have to perform an exorcism on that car as it's flying around uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, member of the Shi'Ar try to contact The Avengers but they choose not to respond. Corsair, Captain Marvel, Thor (who is infected by The Brood) and She- Hulk pilot a ship towards a planet with a huge Starbrand symbol burned onto it.

As Iron Man loses the fight against the snow beasts, suddenly Thor's hammer flies into the scene and knocks them away. Tony thinks it's Thor that has come to rescue him, but instead it is Odin, and he is joined with the original Avengers from pre-history!

Savage Avengers VS Free Comic Book Day

Wolverine is on the hunt for whoever kidnapped his old friend Saviano, that has gone missing. A detective walks towards Wolverine as he sniffs out the car that belonged to his friend. Logan can tell that Saviano was kidnapped to get to him. Suddenly ninja attack and Wolverine is quick to take them out. The ninjas belong to The Hand, and Wolverine recognizes the pollen on their uniforms coming from the Savage Land. He kills the last ninja and now knows where to go.

In Cairo, one of The Hand delivers a captive to another person dressed like a Pharaoh. They have also collected the Third Eye of Agamotto and have a symbiote trapped in a jar. The captive was Stick, Daredevil's master and he is awake. Before the man can react the Hand Ninja turns out to be Electra and he quickly kills him. Stick stands by as Electra continues with her mission.

This starts a new upcoming series called Savage Avengers that will star some heavy hitters like Wolverine, The Punisher and Venom.

My Opinions-

This story basically serves to help re-tell some of the events since The Final Host arrived on Earth and caused trouble. I missed out on a lot since last I blogged about this (I read most of my comics as I blog them), but so far it looks like Blade joined the group, Thor is infected by The Brood and Namor is evil (or misguided) and causing trouble. The kicker is Iron Man somehow being blasted back through time to meet up with the original Avengers, consisting of such members like Odin in his prime, The Phoenix and Agamotto. I guess I'll have to jump back into Avengers to find out what happens next.

Another thing are these new super heroes that 'were sent from D.C' as in Washington DC.... which I find kinda ironic since they do look like (and sound like) c-string DC superheroes.

Savage Avengers is kinda interesting. It's drawn in that kind of dark, inky old school style of some of Wolverine's solo tales that take him to Madripoor and the like, expect this time Logan's going to get some teammates. From what I can gather, Conan himself will be involved and with such violent characters like The Punisher and Venom and the story headed towards the Savage Land... this tale will be truly savage.

I'm honestly more curious on how all these crazies are even gonna get along.

Not really too much to say. Previous Avengers Free Comic Book Day stories contained some tales that factored into the main comic, for example we actually got to see more of the original Avengers fight against the Celestial, which served as the backstory for the Avengers comics and explained why The Final Host was headed to Earth in the first place. This comic mostly served as a preview of coming attractions.

And before anyone asks, yes we did see Avengers End Game. I personally saw it twice and I'm debating whether or not to see it a third time in 3D.

Looking at the picture now, I just noticed someone hung their shades over War Machine.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
