IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #10

 By Mark Rodriguez

This issue brings Spider Bytez into the comic pages! Yay! One of the annoying bad guy characters who's refuses to stop calling the turtles "kung fu frogs". Also, like last time, there are two stories in one comic.

Love Bytez!

Mikey is in his room cutting out Valentine's for his brothers! He attempts to express his love to his brothers, but all the brothers ignore him. With Raph, he is mad because Mikey cut the Valentine out of the Karate magazine. Mikey is upset and leaves the lair. He sits on the rooftop watching all the loving couples. He wonders why he couldn't express that he cares for his family. But suddenly everyone in front of Mikey disappeared!

The other turtles arrive to the rooftop asking what's wrong. Raph comments on the smell. Mikey shows what is making the smell. It's him.  He explains to his brothers why he called them over, which is about the people disappearing. He believes that the Kraang, Big Foot and ghosts have kidnapped the people. He has a tin foil hat to protect his brain from Kraang and is covered in pizza grease to slip away from Big Foot. Raph comments if Mikey fell on his head again. Leo breaks up the fight between Raph and Mikey, while Donnie was distracted.

They investigate the area that the people disappeared. The area is covered in spider-webs. Raph comments about all the spider webs. Then Raph, Leo and Donnie realize who was the culprit of the kidnapping. Spider Bytez! And like usual Mikey is off to the side, outside of the bubble. The turtles follow the trail of spider webs to a building. They decide to sneak through the roof to catch Spider Bytes off guard. While the turtles attempt to break through the roof, instead they get caught off guard when the roof collapses below them.

Spider Bytez has caught them and starts calling them frogs. Raph is ready to fight and does so, but is caught with some webs. All the turtles were caught in his web. And this is where Spider Bytez reveals his reason. He wants to cause all the "lovey-dovey couples" some misery. And the reason he's "Bah humbug" to Valentine's Day is because what the turtles did to him (Turning him into a spider.) Leo tries to tell Spider Bytez that he should be mad at them, not the hostages. But he does notice that Mikey was loose from the webs, thanks to the pizza grease! Instead of fighting with his nunchuks, he fights with words. And this wasn't what he intended to do. Mikey attempts to comfort and show care towards the monster. Mikey tells Spider Bytez, he's not a bad guy and attempts to give a "bro hug". Spider Bytez is getting distracted and annoyed at Mikey's antics. Too distracted to notice that the other turtles were escaping from the webs.

They know how to defeat the monster, by distraction. They follow their brother's lead and be his backup. They all attack with kindness! Spider Bytez spits out his acid towards the turtles, but miss only weakening the structure of the building. Mikey has freed the hostages from the web prisons and everyone escapes the  building before it collapses.

The turtles are back at the lair. Here comes the sentimental life lesson of the comic. The guys apologize for ignoring the Valentine's Day hearts from Mikey. Splinter comes in and says "Michelangelo, thank you for reminding us of the importance of being surrounded by those who care for us. Our friends and family. Not everyone is so fortunate." And randomly April comes in with a pizza box and the story ends with a heart shaped pizza.

Mikey's Map

The turtles are now on their Shell Raiser. Mikey is shouting directions, and Leo is wondering where he is taking them, especially in such a rush. While driving to their mystery destination, they run into the Purple Dragons breaking into a pawn shop. With only the sight of the turtles, the gang runs away. Donnie teases about them running away.

Mikey brushes them aside and continue to yell out directions. The group cuts through a building where the Kraang was doing an experiment. They just drive past, with Mikey still yelling out directions. Dogpound...I mean Rahzar is walking with an ice cream cone? Well, they just drive past splashing water on Rahzar, even ruining his cone. Raph screams at Mikey about where they're going. Mikey randomly yells stop and they screech to stop in front of...

A pizza shop. Mikey is anxious to try the pizza from this shop, but when they find it ends up closed. The other turtles are furious and leave Mikey behind at the pizza shop.

Paige's Opinions-

Well this comic mostly revolves around Mikey...and pizza. In the first story he actually has a "plan" to defeat Spider Bytes, even though it that wasn't supposed to intentionally work out that way...The comics actually had the change with Dogpound to Rahzar. I didn't think they would have that change. But I was surprised! I guess they will continue the whole two story in one comic tradition.

The sad thing is, I liked the short story better than the main story of the comic. I love the quick cameos from the Kraang and Rahzar. Spider Bytez isn't an amazing bad guy. I don't care too much for him.

Mark's Opinions-

Spider-Bytez was a cool character in my opinion and I liked his rivalry with Raph and how he calls the Turtles 'kung fu frogs'. The one thing that stood out to me in the episode 'Turtle Temper' was the fact that the turtles now lived in a modern-day smartphone world. While Lewis Black did a good job voicing the character, it did prevent the show from appearing more times than he did. From what I remember he only appeared in two other episodes, and one of them was unvoiced.

The story was simple and continued on with the hatred Spider Bytez had towards the turtles and him trading insults with Raph. It was a decent enough story for what it was. Considering that the 2 other episodes he appeared in weren't really centered around him, we at least got to see them continue their rivalry here.

The second story was short and sweet and more of the 'Mikey does something and hilarity ensues'. The most noticeable thing were the cameos, especially the first comic book appearance of Bradford's new mutated form as Rahzar. There's something oddly wholesome of Rahzar just walking down the street enjoying an ice cream cone and not causing trouble, unless of course you consider he most likely robbed an ice cream shop.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
