AEW Elevation Episode 74 (Women's Wrestling)

This time we get 4 matches on Dark Elevation and we get see Hikaru Shida, Marina Shafir, Nyla, Athena and others in action. Also one of Jade's Baddies, Leila Grey, sees some singles action.

First Match- Julia Hart vs LMK


LMK is confused by Julia just standing there, and is suddenly slapped by her. LMK slaps her right back which sets Julia off. Julia yanks her leg out from under her and gets on top of her, throwing several punches at her. The ref had to pull Julia off of her. Julia goes over to LMK that quickly grabs her for an Inside Cradle pin, but couldn't keep her down. LMK starts throwing hammer punches on her as Julia gets back up to her feet.

LMK goes for the waist lock but Julia elbows her off. Julia grabs her and hits her with several knees to the face and then does a snapmare on her. Julia then kicks her across the spine. LMK gets Julia against the ropes and throws elbow shots at her. Julia whips her against the ropes and does her forward handspring elbow shot into her face. Julia then hits her with a running elbow. The member of the House of Black bounces LMK against the ropes and hits her in the back. Julia grabs her by the hair and gets her in a submission hold, making LMK tap. Julia Hart wins the match.

Match 2- Leila Grey vs JC


Both women lock up and fight for control over each other's arms. Leila gets JC up against the ropes until the ref separates them. Leila kicks JC and then pulls her towards the ropes. JC gets into a handstand and grabs Leila's head with her legs and brings her right into the second turnbuckle. JC hits her with a running elbow, but then Leila grabs her with a face buster slam. Leila kicks JC around and plants her boot up against her throat. 

Leila hits JC with a running hip attack and then rocks her with two elbow shots to the face. Leila grabs her and slams her with a release fisherman suplex. Leila poses and hits JC with a running senton splash. Leila poses to the crowd and hits JC with a knee to the midsection and an underhook knee to the face, laying her flat out. The Baddie blows a kiss at her opponent. She goes for the pin and scores the win.

Match 3- Athena Vs Christina Marie


Both women start grappling and Athena whips her to the mat. She then grabs her in an off-the-rope armdrag. Athena taunts Christina and when she runs towards her, the Fallen Goddess trips her up. Athena jumps off the ropes for a Tornado Splash and goes for the pin but Christina kicks out. Christina gets up and shoves Athena back, then grabs her hair and pulls her down so she falls on her back. Athena manages to flip back to her feet but as she runs towards her, Christine picks her up and drops her facefirst into the top turnbuckle. 

Christina picks up Athena and body slams her. She goes for the pin for the Fallen Goddess kicks out. Christina gets her in a headlock and Athena fights her way back to her feet. Christina pulls back down to the mat, applying more pressure to the headlock. Athena starts fading out, but slowly forces herself back up. Athena pulls Christina off her with an armdrag and then does a handstand, grabbing Christina with her leg and flipping her to the mat.

Athena bounces Christina against the ropes and hits her with a running knee. The Fallen Goddess then hits her with an Exploder and flips back to her feet. As Christina gets up, she gets clocked by Athena's Discus Forearm. Athena pics her up and drops her face first onto her knees. Athena takes to the ropes and slams Christina with the O-Face cutter, a diving cutter, if you will. Athena pins her for the win. Athena currently has her sights on Jade and the TBS title, if she can get past her Baddies.

Match 4- Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero vs Toni Storm, Hikaru Shida And Willow Nightingale

The match opens with Toni Storm facing off against Marina Shafir. Both women grapple and Marina picks up Toni and slams her to the mat. Marina tries to get her into different holds, finally getting her in an ankle lock. Toni gets out of it and gets Marina in a headlock. As both women take to the ropes, Toni knocks Marina down with a dropkick. Marina tags in Nyla who knocks Toni down with a dropkick. Nyla manages to pick up Toni and power slam her. She goes for the pin but Willow comes in to shove her off.

Nyla tags in Emi Sakura who grabs Toni by the hair and throws her across the ring. Emi folds Toni up and sits on her, drinking some imaginary tea that Nyla joins in on. Marina is tagged back in who grabs Toni for a backwards slam. Marina shoves her up against the ropes in her corner and then judo throws her. Marina does a second judo throw on her, and while the ref argues with her, Vickie Guerrero lands a cheap shot from outside the ring. 

Marina tags Nyla in who tries to go for a knee drop twice, but Toni keeps rolling out of the way. Nyla kicks at her a few times and goes for the body splash, which Toni always gets out of the way of. Toni finally gets the chance to tag in Willow. Willow gets Nyla up against the ropes and starts throwing chops and elbow strikes. Marina comes in to punch her and then tries to whip her towards the ropes, but Willow cartwheels to safety. Willow bounces Marina against the ropes and knocks her down with The Pounce. 

Nyla charges at Willow, but she sidesteps her and shoves her towards the ropes. Willow goes for the top turnbuckle and knocks Nyla back with the shotgun dropkick. Willow goes for the pin but the Native Beast kicks out. Willow tags in former champ Hikaru Shida, who goes for a running knee but Nyla catches her in mid-air. Nyla squeezes Hikaru as Marina is tagged in. Marina hits Hikaru with several hip strikes and then flips her with the judo throw. Marina goes for the ankle lock and Hikaru grabs the ropes to break it. Emi Sakura gets tagged in.

Emi gets Hikaru up against the ropes and does the Freddie Mercury chops. Before she can finish with the flying crossbody, Hikaru gets to her first with a flying headscissors. Hikaru runs at Emi, but she picks up and slams her in a backbreaker. Emi picks up Hikaru for a delayed vertical suplex but she manages to land on her feet. Hikaru hits Emi with a scale kick followed by an axe kick, knocking her down.


 Nyla and Marina come in, grabbing Hikaru for a double body slam.  Before they can pick her up, Willow and Toni rush in and help Hikaru bodyslam both Nyla and Marina. Willow gets Marina up against the ropes and Hikaru gets Nyla up against her. Hikaru picks up Emi and suplexes her onto both Nyla and Marina. With all three woman stacked up against the ropes, Toni Storm runs at them, hitting all three with her flying hip attack. Hikaru grabs Emi and slams her with the Falcon Arrow, pinning her and scoring the win.


My Thoughts- 

Pretty fun episode of Dark Elevation. As always, Dark Julia is fun to watch with her creepy dark glares and vicious attitude. Leila Grey seems to be the newest one of Jade's Baddies, alongside Kiera Hogan and Red Velvet. Based on the commentary it seems the other Baddies don't like her much but appreciate her skill, and this includes Jade. Between Jade having trouble with one of her own and Athena gunning for the titles, her days as TBS champ might be numbered.

As for The Fallen Goddess, Athena is always fun to watch as well. One thing I have to say though, the commentary is pretty bad at calling out the finishers. I only knew Athena's finisher is called the O-Face based on previous matches but it went unnamed tonight. To make it worse, we've seen several Dark Julia matches by now and they STILL haven't called out the name of her submission move. C'mon guys. Stop talking about Hikaru wearing the Eye of Agamotto and call out Julia's finisher.

The main event was fun though of the 6 women featured, Willow didn't get to do all that much of her unique moves. The heels took a while picking on Toni and then Emi was taking Hikaru apart as well. All three of the heroines got massive pops though as the crowd loves Willow, Toni and Hikaru. Marina did look a bit rough today though, it did seem the match slowed down every time she got tagged in. She's been part of this Vickie Heel Trio before and did better then, so maybe it was an off night. It was still a fun match all around and seeing the triple body slam and Toni do the Hip Attack on all three of the heels was fun.

If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

 By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women.
