Batman and the Outsiders # 2 (2019)

By Mark Rodriguez

Batman organized a new team of heroes which he wants Black Lightning to take charge of so they can discover who is hunting and killing metahumans. The team is consisting of The Signal, Orphan and Katana. The victim in question, Sarah escaped as a mystery man killed her father. Now another mystery man claiming to be from the future has arrived to rescue her. What will happen now?

In the Batcave, Bruce tells Jeff that Sofia has a tracker implanted in her so he knows she is out of LA. He says she is with a man he trusts named Kaliber and he wants Jeff's team to get her because he's not the most stable person. Jeff asks Bruce how he does all of this and be the symbol of certainty. Bruce says he's the symbol of fear, Jeff represents hope and that is what Sofia needs now. He tells him that the Outsiders can arrive in LA in 5 hours but to be careful for whoever else is hunting for her.

Elsewhere, Kaliber tells Sofia that is actually a former arms dealer and only told her she was from the future so she would come with him. However the part where he mentioned that the League of Assassins is after her is true. Kaliber knows Sofia is from the Ark Program and asks what her powers are. Sofia knows she is stronger than normal but doesn't know how strong and she can heal pretty quickly. Kaliber tells her he will watch over her until Batman sends help.

Kaliber explains that the man that killed her father is also from the Ark Program and is named Ishmael. He gains power by sucking it from other metahumans, though Kaliber isn't sure how Rah's Al Ghul got to him. Sofia asks for a gun for her own protection as well, and he gives one powerful enough to knock back metahumans. Sofia goes to sleep and Kaliber watches over teasing her about what kind of superhero names she could use.

Ishmael tells Rah's that he has found Sofia. Rah's says to get her and let nothing standing in his way since immortality awaits him.

Sofia apologizes to her father as she plans to use the gun on herself. Before she can pull the trigger, Ishmael smashes through the wall. Kailber jumps in and starts shooting at Ishmael, telling Sofia to run. She runs but then stops and decides she's not going to run from this.

Kaliber tries to blast Ishmael down but the villain is fast enough to dodge them and leap towards him to strike. Just then Sofia runs into and shoulder-tackles Ishmael away. He is able to catch his bearings and leap back action, taking down Kaliber. He approaches Sofia telling her that Rah's wants her.

Kaliber swings his blade down, but is blocked by Katana's sword. She tells Sofia to get behind the others, who turn out to be Black Lightning, Signal and Orphan. Kaliber tells Katana that 'The Demon' also wants her. Black Lightning tried to zap him but he blocks the blast with his sword. Signal launches Orphan into Ishmael with a flying kick, but he grabs her leg and throws her back into Signal. He then tackles Black Lightning off his feet.

Ishmael grabs Lightning by the neck and lifts him off the ground, telling him that 'The Demon' doesn't want him. Kaliber nearly blasts the man's hand off. Ishmael flies upward as his arm starts to heal and says that the Lazarus Pit has made him endless. He lands with a shockwave that sends everybody down and tells Sofia to join him.

Kaliber helps Black Lightning up and they notice that both Ishmael and Sofia are gone. Kaliber asks which one of them gets to tell Batman that they failed.

Sofia wakes up in a mysterious room and hears someone tell her that she is safe in this place which is called Khadym. He tells her that her parents have failed her and Batman has failed her. The man is Rah's Al Ghul, with Ishmael by his side. He tells her that he is her teacher now and she has much to learn.

My Opinions-

Well, first of all, I'd like to say this cover wins the award for one of the most misleading comic book covers in a while. Not only does it look like the Outsiders are fighting against Kaliber, it also looks like Sofia rebelled against them as well. Seeing how this issue ended though, it might look like it might end up being foreshadowing.

It was a decent issue, mostly the fight against Ishmael, but I do love when the comics have a decent amount of action. It was short and sweet due to the large panels, but the art does convey just how fast and deadly Ishmael is as he takes down all of the Outsiders by himself. A guy with his strength and speed, and also trained by the League of Assassins makes a deadly combination. Plus he looks cool.

The bad things about comics, is to keep the story moving forward everything happens so fast when it comes to the fighting. I'd love to see a full animated action scene between this guy and all of the Outsiders.
Batman is barely in this book so far, mostly just giving orders and being his usual vague self. Now that Rah's himself is involved I do wonder if the story will eventually force Batman to step in.

Kaliber is kinda cool and we got some decent small talk between him and Sofia before Ishmael showed up. Sofia lost her parents and had her world turned upside down but it was cool seeing her try to take a stand. Hopefully she can take another stand against whatever manipulation Rah's has planned for her.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
