Ikki Tousen Volume 1 Chapter 2 review

 By Mark Rodriguez

Last time, we met Hakufu, a martial artist who, while trained by her mother, was told to never actually engage in a fight. Yearning to fight, Hakufu finally got her chance when she challenged by a fighter named Han You. With her fighting spirit awaked, Hakufu's mother gave her a family gem called the magatama, and she must now head towards Tokyo to face her destiny. What awaits her there?

The second chapter opens in Tokyo as Hakufu is in front of the Nanyo Academy with the slogan 'Enhance Yourself, Desecrate Others'. She feels this is something she can deal with. As she sees other guys, she sees they all wear the magamata earrings and is excited.

Elsewhere a kid walking down the block with his bagged sandwich and accidentally runs into an apparent couple making out. He tries to run away before they think he was peeping, but the guy says the girl 'puts out for everyone' and offers to let him kiss her too.

Meanwhile Hakufu is already whupping ass on the guys. She has a flashback where her mom reminds her that first impressions count, so make sure to take out 30 Toushis from the start. Hakufu mentions she has about 16 more Toushis to go.

The kid's name is Shuyu and he's surprised that the upper classmates knew his name. The classmate says he knows that his cousin Hakufu has arrived and they'll be rooming together. Shuyu says it'll only be until she finds her own place. Just then word spreads about this random girl beating up everybody she runs into, and the guys run off to see. Shuyu hopes this isn't his cousin.

Hakufu dusts her hands off as she's surrounded by all the guys she's beat up. She says she only has maybe one or two guys to go, but she lost count. She figures she might as well beat up 3 more to be sure. As some of the remaining guys wonder whether or not they should contact Mr. Enjustu, a larger student approaches our battle hungry protagonist. The big guy is named Gakushuu, and he's actually offering Hakufu the first hit if she's brave enough to take it. Shuyu arrives in time to see them both staring each other down.

Hakufu goes for a devastating kick, and Gakushuu manages to block it with a single finger before her foot can touch the side of his face. He calls the attack sloppy and amateurish. Gakushuu effortlessly flicks Hakufu away, sending her flying into a wall. He walks away warning her to choose her opponents, not the other way around. Hakufu is surprised she wasn't hurt a lot more seriously, but she didn't notice that she actually smashed into Shuyu, who is now buried into the wall.

Some time later, Hakufu is sitting with Shuyu, and she gets to eat the bagged sandwich and a soft drink. Hakufu catches Shuyu staring at her chest and teases him. Now that she's eaten, she's ready for another fight with Gakushuu. Shuyu angrily warns her that Gakushuu is a Rank B who is way too powerful for her. To make matters worse, Gakushuu is friends with Mr. Enjustu who is DEFINITELY not someone she should be messing with. This of course, only gets Hakufu only more excited, which makes her cousin wonder why he even bothered.

Gakushuu walks past the other student that was making out with the random girl earlier who is named Genpou. Genpou teases him about the fight and says Mr. Enjustu wouldn't like the fact he left an E Rank go. As Gakushuu is talking back to him, his knees suddenly give out and he falls. He realizes he got tagged by a delayed internal attack and wonders how she even did it. Genpou is impressed but says she is still an E Rank though.

Elsewhere Shuyu is holding Hakufu back who wants to finish the job since she did manage to tag Gakushuu during their fight.

My Opinions-

So Hakufu dives deep into the world of Toushis and Fighting Ranks in Nanyo Academy. We got to see a bit more fighting and see some of the other characters and how they rank between each other. We also meet Hakufu's cousin Shuyu who seems to be more of the straightman for her antics and well as help explain more about the Toushi business. I have to say, everyone involved in this, so far, seem to be different manners of creeps and scumbags except for Hakufu and Shuyu.

Pretty interesting set-up chapter, with Hakufu more than eager to show off her skills and strength. As always she's one of those lower-rank protagonists that somehow still have impressive strength against much stronger foes. However, this sort of thing will just bring more attention to her from more and more stronger foes. We'll see where this goes.

Dragonball- It's time to go beyond Z or end it

By Mark Rodriguez So while the Dragonball Super anime has ended for a few years now, and the Dragonball Super Broly movie is over a year old as well, the Dragonball Super manga has actually continued past the Tournament of Power and  Super Broly movie. As this new arc, nicknamed the Moro Arc after its main villain is coming to a close, the question is where do they do from here? Also before you get into this article, I really hope you know your DBZ because there are just waaaaaay too many characters to take the time out to explain who everyone is one by one. Dragonball and Dragonball Z is one of the longest running anime and manga series since the 80's and while it seemed it was put to pasture after Dragonball GT ended in 1997, the only thing left was for the American dubs to catch up. Despite this the love and nostalgia for the series lived on with videogames and the occasional special here and there that would bring back the characters (like the Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Retu

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi

Five Nights at Freddy's- How FNAF 2 Complicated the Lore

By Mark Rodriguez Five Nights at Freddy's.... a game series that started out by being a security guard trying to survive 5 nights at a pizzeria full of haunted animatronics that spawned lots of sequels. Now the latest one is looking like it's going to be about some of the animatronics actually trying to keep you safe from a serial killer that might have been brainwashed by a possessed VR game. What the hell? FNAF.... how it started and where it's going......  Here's a quick trip down memory lane over just how simple the story of FNAF seemed to be in the first game, and how the second game started the long path of the huge mess that we have now. Now when the first game came out back in 2014, creator Scott Cawthon had no way of knowing it would be a smash hit with lots of sequels. In fact, it was a bit of a last desperate attempt to make it in the gaming business. It's hard to believe nowadays, but had FNAF failed, Scott would have given up working on video games and
