Dead or Alive 6 Final Revival DLCs

By Mark Rodriguez

So we have reached the end of Dead or Alive's DLC journey, at least for what fans might call the 'vanilla' version. Time will tell if an Ultimate version will come out later this year. Right now they have the removed the option to purchase sets of 50 tickets that can be used to purchase DLC items, and have cut it down to sets of 2 and 10. Just the other day they added the extra option to just purchase 1 ticket individually. I think that this, along with any last-minutes bug fixes, patches or balance changes, rounds up the last of DOA6's DLC support.

When I covered Season 4 I purposely left out the Revival Sets because I knew two more were coming afterwards, so now I can cover all 4 sets. Let's check them out.

Revival- Maid Costume Set (17 costumes)

The girls dress up as maids, through when they say they're 'cleaning house' they mean they're going to kick your ass. The outfits are all pretty much the same, except different colors and some of the characters like slightly more covered up than the others. In this case Mai and Kula already had maid outfits in advance, so they kinda/sorta count as part of this set, I guess.

My Thoughts- One funny thing I'd like to point out is that as of now, I have still never ran into anyone wearing the maid outfits. Personally I haven't bought them either but I was expecting to see some people having bought them. If you purchased this set or a costumer individually for them, let me know. One thing to note is that they actually did create a new maid outfit for NiCo since she wasn't in Dead or Alive 5.

Revival - Alluring Mandarin Dress Set (17 costumes)

The girls show off some Mandarin style dresses and I believe this one of the better sets. There is a bit more variety as the outfits do have different colors and different patterns on them. While most of them wear the classic Chun Li type hair buns, some of them have different headwear, and some of them have sleeves and such. Once again, NiCo got one too despite not being in DOA5. As always, everyone except Mai and Kula got their dresses.

My Thoughts- This is one of my favorite sets. I bought them for most of the ladies. I am a little surprised Hitomi got a pink dress and not something that was some shade of green, since it's a color she's sorta tied to.

Revival- High Society Costume Set (18 costumes)

One of the final DLC sets have the girls show off they can be as classy and elegant as they are dangerous in a fight. While the fancy dresses look very similar, there are some variations here and there. Some of the characters have long sleeves, or no sleeves at all. The dresses themselves vary in length and color. Phase 4 and Lisa get to sport berets. Rachel and Phase 4 have very different colors compared to the rest wearing white tops. Also NiCo and Tamaki get fancy dresses as well.

My Thoughts- I liked this set as well. I especially like Sarah and Phase 4's outfits since they have very eye-popping color contrast as opposed to most of them that have white tops and black or a similar color dresses. The extra beret for Lisa and Phase 4 is a nice touch, as is Christie's new hairstyle.

Revival School Uniform Set- (18 costumes)

I knew the schoolgirl outfits were coming, but I'd imagine it would be the final set to wrap up DOA6's DLC. Most of the girls are dressed as schoolgirls while some of them are dressed like teachers. NiCo and Tamaki get new outfits as well.

My Thoughts- I love this set actually. While following the school theme, most of them are pretty unique. Most of the girls wearing schoolgirl outfits all dress as if they attend different schools, so Ayane's outfit is very different from Kokoro's. Christie looks like gym teacher, Helena got the sexy librarian thing going on, Lei Fang looks like a science teacher and Lisa looks like the principal who's office you'd like to be sent to. NiCo and Tamaki get new outfits as well. This is the final set and it's one of my favorites.

In conclusion-

Dead or Alive 6 has had a hell of a rocky start. At the start it didn't know what kind of game it wanted to be, whether it wanted to town down the fanservice to make it to the Evo scene, or go all in to keep the majority of their fanbase. When it comes to DLC, it dropped the ball on a lot of cases, ranging from prices or bringing in incomplete versions of previous outfits.  And don't even get me started on that stupid 'renting hair color for a dollar' thing, that was just terrible and Team Ninja/Koei Tecmo should be ashamed of themselves.

We had outfits like the Hot Summer Costume Set in which the DOA5 versions had the women lose their beach shirts to show off their swimsuits in the heat of battle, but would keep covered up in the DOA6 version. Similarly Phase 4's Gust Mashup outfit left out her transformation from the DOA5 version. Rachel had her skimpier outfits censored while Tina and Christie who are just as skimpy kept theirs intact. Not to mention the decision to charge 'new' outfits 3 dollars and the revival outfits 2 dollars... but then counting the re-used Gust Mashup outfits as if they were new to charge you 3 dollars a piece for older outfits.

Luckily as a game, the game itself is fun. I still love hopping online and wrecking the competition with Christie and Hitomi. It's just all the other stuff surrounding the game like the expensive DLC practices that drag the game down. The moment it was announced that support would end for DOA6, maybe people were so soured towards the game they already checked out and moved on to something else, if they haven't done so already. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round still has lobbies to this day.

As for me, if you're curious which DLC outfits were my favorites or everything we've seen.... well...

If we go by the all-new all original outfits, I will say I loved the Energy Up Work Out Wear the most, close second being the Morphin Ninja Outfits. I mean, it's surprising it took this long for the DOA women to start wearing yoga pants.

My favorite Revival sets were the Schoolgirls, followed closely by the Alluring Mandarin dresses.

The only thing I have to say though is.... it's kinda weird that there was never a nurse outfit set to go with what Mai and Kula came with. Both SNK guest stars came with Wedding Outfits and Pirate Outfits to match season 1, and while their Playboy Bunny and Maid outfits came pretty early, eventually everyone else would get their own bunny and maid outfits too. Unless an Ultimate version releases a Nurse set, Mai and Kula are gonna sorta stand out as being the only characters with Nurse outfits.

SNK VS Capcom Chaos Volume 1

By Mark Rodriguez We'll be seeing a few crossovers this month, and we're gonna start with one based on a crossover videogame. If you think the Malibu SF comic series was kinda sloppy, this one was literally all action, pin ups and splash pages, and what little story in it is just plain weird. I'm talking about the SNK VS Capcom Chaos comics made by Happy Comics, translated by Japan and produced with supervision from both SNK Playmore and Capcom. But first a brief explanation on the game this was inspired from. In 2000, Capcom produced Capcom VS SNK Millenium Fight 2000 which would throw the fighters of Capcom and SNK at each other. Unfortunately, aside from Morrigan from Darkstalkers and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, the game felt more like Street Fighter VS King of Fighters. Capcom later made Capcom VS SNK 2 Mark of the Millenium with even more characters and variety as well as different modes of play. SNK made their own game, SNK VS Capcom Chaos and it offered a bit more...

Arachna# 1 Review *Spoilers*

By Mark Rodriguez Here's another awesome comic from independent artists that opened up an Indiegogo to get it started. I usually don't chip in unless it looks real good, like you just know they're gonna hit their goal. Arachna, a sexy superheroine with a split personality and an amazing art syle, sure looked like a good pick for me.  With lots of clever marketing in advance, even getting a person to dress as Arachna herself to bring the character to life, they hit their goal the same day they actually opened the Indiegogo for donations. I chipped in for the comic and the shirt, and here is my review on the latest superheroine that's bringing sexy back to comics, Arachna! Also note, while I'll try to keep my language as tame as I can, this book deals with way more adult stuff than I usually discuss on this blog. The Adventure Begins The issue opens with Jennie lying in bed naked in her apartment, a noticeable pile of sketches lying on the floor. She awakens to a voi...

Goshawk and Falconet # 1 (heavy spoilers so beware!)

By Mark Rodriguez Brought to you by the same studios that brought you Arachna # 1 and 2, we get a brand new superhero duo, Goshawk and Falconet. Let's check it out. The story opens with Goshawk and Falconet soaring through the sky just above Santa Monica Bay. They fly towards a ship that is being robbed. Goshawk tells her to secure the cargo while he keeps the guards busy.  The robbers are working for a villain named Black Parrot. Goshawk lands between two of them and bashes their heads together. Just then a third man pulls a gun on him from behind. Goshawk retracts his wings which knocks the gun out of the man's hand. Goshawk knocks the guy out while Falconet kicks the guy protecting the cargo. Falconet uses one of her claws to pick the padlock and finds a room full of captured women. She assures them that they're alright now. On the lower decks, Black Parrot and a woman named Secretarybird think their mission is a success. With the harbormaster being bought and paid for ...
