This is something worth letting you readers know. For fans of the Dead or Alive series that thought that we were never going to be done with the seemingly never-ending barrage of DoA 5 DLC costumes, Dead or Alive 6 is finally a reality. The online beta test hit sometime this past Friday January 11, 2019, just out of nowhere.
So far only ranked matches are allowed and you can select Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate, Ryu Hayabusa and newcomer Diego, who is a fist fighter. So far there is only one stage available and you have 2 costumes available and can mess with the characters' glasses and things.
The graphics are amazing, and the game play is a lot of fun and fast paced. The most noticeable new feature is that now the game added these power moves that can be linked into several strikes in a row. There's also a cool slow-motion zoom-in final strike that is similar to the DoA 5, and it can be done either by itself or at the end of the combo of super moves. You can also use a variation of these super moves to dodge an attack or zoom behind the opponent for a quick attack. There is a short tutorial mode to learn the new game mechanics.
I'm enjoying the beta release so far. I mean, it's too soon for a proper review, but the action is great, I love the graphics and music, and I'm digging the new outfits for the characters. Diego is also an interesting character with a kick-ass attitude. Considering he's the only non-ninja character so far, he stands out among the other characters since his fighting style doesn't involve fancy blackflips and other acrobatics. You'll need an active Playstation Plus account to play this, similar to other beta releases. There's no telling when they'll pull this, so it might be just for this weekend. I do wonder if closer to the official release date they'll do another beta with some more characters or another stage.
Dead or Alive 6 is released by Koei Tecmo Games and was supposed to be released on February 15 but will now be out on March 1st. The beta already gives you the option to pre-order some costumes. If you haven't already, be sure to check the free beta test while it's still live.
